Mark looked away, glad his face was covered. Why had he admitted something so embarrassing? It may have been the truth, and she may have asked him for it, but why? Why did he have to say that?! He could have literally said anything else! And it wouldn't have been hard to pick any other reason. In fact, he could come with about twenty reasons that would have been far better, and far less embarrassing to say.
The car fell silent. Chancing a peek, he parted his fingers and glanced at Luna. The girl was sitting up stock-straight, and her face and neck were cherry red, and her lips were parted open. It appeared that she had figured out the meaning behind his words.
Well, he was screwed.
He had thought this was his chance to finally change his ways and treat Luna better than what he had in the past, to no longer push her around, or bully her. But he had to go and reveal his true feelings, knowing that the girl was in love with someone else.
