(Genryujin's POV)
"I never expected for you to come to me." Souken said as he poured tea into a cup
We were inside his home, sitting in a couch. Retsu sat next to me as I looked at the old Quincy sitting across from us. He had a serious yet calm look on his face as he leaned back.
Next to him, was a woman, whom I assume was his wife. I think it was the same woman from a few years ago. She had a serious scowl on her face as she silently stared at us.
"Yea." I said grabbing the cup, "Neither did I."
"What do you want?" Souken asked, "And worry not about the tea, I would never think of poison."
"I don't worry about poison." I said gesturing at Retsu, "She can cure it pretty easily."
"To think a Captain of The Gotei would be in my home." Souken said, "It is a pleasure, Retsu Unohana."
Retsu nodded, "The pleasure is mine, Ishida-san." she said, "I didn't think that the Ishida line would survive the years. I am glad it did."
"Hehe." Souken chuckled, "Here we are."
"Here you are." I said as I sipped from the cup, "Well, there's much to discuss."
"Indeed." Souken said, "I'm glad you're speaking to me about her, the girl."
"My Daughter." I said as I set the cup down on the table, "She's-"
"A Quincy." Souken's wife spoke up, "And she belongs here."
I looked at her, she had an angry scowl, her eyes piercing through me.
"Hm." I said
"Yes, that she is." Souken said, "She's a sweet girl, just like her mother. Masaki is like a daughter to me, so having her daughter around is an amazing feeling. My grandchildren, they're the light of my day. Uryu and Shirahoshi are the future of the Ishida Family."
"Even though she isn't an Ishida?" I asked him
Souken looked at me, "Masaki was meant to marry my son." He said, "But she didn't. Because you broke her chastity."
I frowned, "Hm..."
"But despite that, I kept her in my home, and helped her." Souken continued, "Ryuken immediately married his current wife, whom he was secretly having a relationship with. They then had their son, Uryu. It was all a somewhat chaotic time, but we got through it. Things.....things are fine, the way they are at the moment."
"I appreciate that." I said, "But I don't have to say it for you to know; she's not just a Quincy. She's part Shinigami. That puts her in danger."
"Danger?" Souken asked as he raised an eyebrow, "From who? The Gotei?"
"No." I said, "Other enemies."
"Enlighten me." Souken said
"I...." I started
I couldn't just say what was on my mind. I didn't know how to approach this. How was I supposed to just say that Aizen is in my sights and I couldn't let him get an opportunity to get at me? I didn't know if it was the right thing to say.
All I had to do is make sure they understood that she had to be safe.
"Our enemies have yet to reveal themselves." Retsu spoke up, "I understand that once Shirahoshi's existence is discovered, not only is she in danger, but your entire family will be in danger."
"And what of it?" Mrs. Ishida asked
"She must come with us." Retsu said, "Shirahoshi is Genryujin's daughter, she is safe in Soul Society."
"No." Mrs. Ishida said with anger, "That girl is like my own granddaughter. I delivered her, I will not give her away so easily."
"Wife, calm down." Souken said, "Let's hear them out a bit more."
"What my Wife said is true." I said, "I think its best if she comes with me. But I don't want to take her away from her mother. And I doubt a Quincy will be accepted in Soul Society. S-Shirahoshi will be accepted because she's my blood."
"So you want to separate Masaki from her daughter?!" Mrs. Ishida stood up, "Unacceptable! Leave my home at this instant!"
"Darling, calm do-" Souken started
"No!" She exclaimed, "I will not have this, Husband! That girl is our family! She may not be our blood, but she's as much as our own as Uryu is! I will not stand by and allow this man to come and take her away after years of his absence, I will not have it!"
I looked at her, "I understand if your upset." I said, "I-"
"Silence!" She said, "Leave, now!"
Retsu stood up and gently pulled my arm up, "Let us go, Husband." she said softly, "We have said enough."
I stood up and looked at Souken, "Very well." I said, "If she's not coming with us, then I am afraid you must keep quiet about this. I was never here and I don't know about her."
Souken frowned, "What?"
I gave him a serious look, "To protect her and Masaki, I will do everything in my power to keep her existence a secret." I said, "Nobody will know about her but my Wife and I. Yoruichi and the others obviously know but they're cut off from Soul Society. The less people that know, the better."
"Genryujin, I...." He said, "I don't know if I agree with this."
I nodded and turned around, "I don't like it either." I said, "But I trust you, Souken. I don't know why, but I do. After years, countless centuries, of hating your kind, I have no clue of why my heart has grown soft on you."
"She'll be safe." He said, "Taken care of as if she's an Ishida. You have my word."
I looked down, "I hope so."
****************************************************
"It's a hard decision." Retsu said as she held my hand and gently squeezed it, "I know you're not happy with it."
We were in the park, near a school, in front of a set of swings.
I stared at the swings for about ten minutes before Retsu finally spoke up.
"I wonder." I said softly, "How long it took humanity to get to this point. Where children can casually play without worry about their lives."
"I.....I think it's quite recent." Retsu said, "According to reports, children's safety has improved here in the Human World in the past few decades. Of course, the dangers of Hollows are still there."
"Back in our time, there was nothing of the sort." I said as I stared at the swing, "Nothing of it....there was only violence, bloodshed, and destruction."
"I know." She said softly, "I know it too well."
"And we were at the pinnacle of it." I looked at her with a weak smile, "The Kenpachi and The Sword God..."
She looked at me, her sweet and gentle eyes warming my heart right up. There was something about looking at her that made me fall in love with her all over again. The sight of her beauty reminded me of my other wives, making me fall for them all over again as well. I didn't quite understand why or how, but it is happening.
"We were." She said with a smile, "But that time is over."
"I know." I said as she hugged my arm, "I don't know if this is the right decision."
"It is." Retsu said, "She'll be able to sit in that swing and play as much as she desires. She'll be safe, protected by the Quincies and even Yoruichi-san. As long as nobody finds out, everything will be okay."
"What if they find out?" I asked
"You'll do what you must." She said as she placed her head on my shoulder, "As you always have. I will support you. I will no longer try to hold you back, Genryujin. You are a Father now. I cannot begin to explain how happy I am for you. But sad at the same time, to be unable to be with her....it must wound your heart deeply. And I'll try my best to heal it, my love."
"I appreciate you, my wife..." I said as I kissed her head, "I love you...."
"I love you as well." She said
"Retsu...." I said softly
"Yes?" She said
"Do you think that if we try, we will be able to have some of our own?" I asked, "I have always wanted to father your children."
She looked at me with a smile, "We can try." She said softly,
"I wish nothing more than that."
