Chapter 96 - This system is criminal and confusing

The moon sat upon it's celestial perch in the night sky and gazed down at the city of Greenhit. It illuminated the citadel, the ruin of the old city, the undead hordes and a special group that was hopping from roof to roof in the residential area of the old city. This group was comprised of two teenage boys, a wisp and very loud tween girl , who could not help screaming everytime they hopped over to another building.

Lesley was losing his patience!

"Will you stop shouting? Every zombie is probably already chasing after us, don't make it any easier for them." Lesley said crossly," I still can't believe you're here. What the hell were you thinking? Again, if you shout one more time, just one more, I'll tell Mel to drop you."

The little girl who was held under Mel's arm pouted," I just wanted to play one more game with you. But Mama kept saying no, I shouldn't go. I was so mad, so I came here by myself after following where Yuri said he left you two."

"That was dangerous." Tobias muttered under his breath, if he still breathed.

"Yes, it was." Lesley agreed then turned his eyes to Veranda," Did you think about the zombies or the mean survivors who would kill you? That ever cross your mind? Even once?"

"Of course it did! I'm not a dummy." Veranda crossed her arms," I stayed in alleys, abandoned buildings and always kept my ears open. This may have been my first time out so far, but I know a lot from what I've seen you do and the guards back home."

"Knowing about something and the real thing are two different things. You were lucky to make it this far, that is fact. I wonder what your mother is going to say." Lesley clicked his tongue.

"Whatever. So, are you going to tell me about your floating light bulb?" Veranda pointed at Tobias," How's it floating."

"That is...know what? Tobias introduce yourself to her." Lesley replied and Tobias looked down in nervousness. The little wisp floated near her face and gave a smile that looked like a smiling hole appeared in it's flames.

"Hello Miss V." Tobias said softly.

Veranda's eyes grew as wide as saucers as her hands shot out and grabbed Tobias.

"Oh my god! It's alive! It can talk! Aaah! So cute! So cool!" Veranda rubbed the wisp in a tight embrace , laughing and cooing like it was a tiny animal.

"Ah! Mmmm! Miss! Please stop! I'm not a rabbit! Hey! Miss!" Tobias tried to ask her to stop but she refused. Eventually he used his ability [Phase] and passed through her arms and rushed to Lesley's side for protection.

"No! Come back! Please! Lesley, tell it to come back! I won't hurt it! Promise!" Veranda pleaded but Lesley rolled his eyes and told Mel to stop.

They stopped on the roof of a residential building and Lesley sat down at the edge as Mel put Veranda down. Lesley looked down and saw it was a three story drop.

"Mel, go get some zombies and kill them here for Tobias. He doesn't have an actual attack ability to kill anything, so feeding him till he evolves is the best way." Lesley said soft but then he paused and looked between Tobias and Mel," Wait, now that I think about it, Tobias is a spirit, he can't eat like you right?"

"He can I think." Mel tilted his head in thought," He just has to eat the organs with energy. When I eat, I just eat the heart and brain, where there is a lot of energy-Aether. I mean Aether."

"That's good to know. Go bring some undead and Tobias can eat them, then evolve." Lesley said looking at zombies roaming the streets below.

"Evolve? I can evolve?" Tobias asked in wonder.

"What's evolve?" Veranda spoke up.

"Evolving happens when undead creatures or spirits reach certain requirements and become stronger. Like when a soldier trains really hard and...wait, why are you asking about evolution? It's in that bloody game you like to play!" Lesley turned away from her and looked at Tobias," Check your Status window by thinking about evolution. I can see it, because you're my summon but it's good to know yourself than me telling you."

Tobias floated thoughtfully and then tried it.

"Boss I did it, what's next?" Tobias asked as he looked at his Status window.

Lesley asked the Bloodline interface how he could evolve Tobias.

[Aether Core must climb to the peak stage of Apex Grey Core]

[Sanity must climb to the 90 points level]

[The Spirit summon must obtain a Main law]

"Okay, but how do I do all those things?"

[The Host can have the summon absorb Aether from fallen undead to evolve it's Core, which will increase its sanity till it reaches the 90 points margin]

"What!? How many will he have to kill?" Lesley asked," Is that the only way,? And what about the Main law?"

[Host can view the Aether needed on the Summon's Status window. Obtaining a Main law can be done through purchasing evolution forms from the Pillar of Undeath for Soul points. It provides Main laws and opens unique evolution paths.]

[Warning! Due to low Bloodline Assimilation, evolution forms will be limited to the Five intents of the Dead]

"Five intents? Why is everything so complicated? Show me the evolution forms available before I get a headache."

[As you wish]

[Processing Undeath evolutions]

[Processing Phoenix Attunement]

[Process Completed!]

Lesley looked at the options and was amazed at the different types that he was offered. It was very exciting to think that he'd have one pick of such powerful allies in Tobias. The sheer power that each evolution presented seemed to pulse from his screen like a dead heartbeat.

Then he saw the prices and swore. It was all bloody expensive and practically cost an arm and a leg since getting Soul points was still ambiguous and vague to him. Lych and Phix said it was from disrupting the flow of life and death and altering it's course, that's how he got soul points. The only problem was that Lesley didn't understand how to do that, interfering with the workings of life and death wasn't something he learnt in the citadel.

So evolution was going to have to wait unfortunately.

"Eh, Boss...I'm guessing you are not going to accept judging from your face." Tobias said and Lesley gave him a quick nod.

"Sorry Tobias, they're out of my price range," Lesley sighed," When it comes to Soul points, I'm bloody broke. I really wanted to help you too."

"It's okay, I trust you'll be able to help" Tobias said softly."In the meantime, I can hunt zombies."

[ + 15 Loyalty for Tobias ]

Lesley smiled when he saw the notification and felt relieved that Tobias was becoming more favored towards him. The Bloodline interface said [Loyalty] determined how well his Summons would Obey and Assist him. It also contributed to how much Necros points he got whenever they killed anything alive, the more loyal, the more Necros points. Plus, being liked wasn't so bad, Lesley didn't want Tobias hating him, he still felt kinda guilty about killing him. Even if it was out of his power to control and unchangeable.

"Hey what are you looking at? I wanna know too!" Veranda stomped her foot angrily, she just saw them staring at the air but knew they were doing something important.

"Oh, well... how do I explain this?" Lesley looked at Mel and Tobias if they could help," You think you can explain the who floating system status thing?"

"I know I can't, I barely understand it." Tobias chuckled softly and Mel gave a slow head shake.

[Host need not bother with an explanation. When the plane ascends, all sentient entities within your universe will be given the Realm System, a similar tool for measuring strength, development and interaction for all beings within the Realm. That includes the human girl before you]

Oh, Lesley gave the message a once over and acknowledged it, noting the new information about the Ascension of the plane. He'd forgotten to get it from Lych earlier and the guy had not talked about it like he'd said he would.

"Isn't there a way to give her information about it faster? I want her to know about it now " Lesley asked but was disappointed.

[Host is unable to do that, unless your Familiar perishes and you assign the human as your new Familiar.]

[Host may also use Necros Absorption on her after ending her life and if lucky, obtain her soul and convert her into a summon]

Well that wasn't happening, Lesley looked at Veranda," I have a magical game in my head that's making me powerful and use magic."

"Wait... Really!?" Veranda gasped and jumped at him," You have to show me! Show me! Show me! Show me! Show meeeee!"

"I can't" Lesley said dryly," It only works for people with magical powers and only us three have it."

"Thats not fair! What makes you think I don't! I could have magical powers!" Veranda shook him," Come on! Please! Pwease Lesley!"

"Oh my gosh, just stand still for a moment and I'll check if you do." Lesley looked at her and used [Primordial Perception]

Lesley looked at the screen with shock and disbelief. There was no way what he saw was true, was it? It just didn't seem possible and yet it stared at him in the face. Undeniable and in green letters, a fact his eyes just could not comprehend.

"Damn, I didn't see that coming." He muttered under his breath.

"Well? Do I? Have I got magic?" Veranda asked excitedly and Lesley opened his mouth to answer.

ROOOOOOOAAAAAR!

He never got the chance though.
