Chapter 438: Ei Strikes Again
Atop the great cauldron, the former city lord revealed himself, yet from his appearance, it seemed he had already died many years ago.
"Interesting."
Watching the middle-aged man battling Gu Yuena ahead, Kong narrowed his eyes, his tone cold as he said, "To think they used the power of dark origin to control the strongest of this city."
If the city lord had died long ago, then the reason that woman could hold such high status in this city was now explained.
However, it seemed she had not slain the man with her own strength.
Under Kong's gaze, the battle raged with intensity.
Thick black miasma and pure silver light clashed again and again, their forces colliding and dispersing outward, forcing Kong to stand at a safe distance to observe.
As the Silver Dragon King, a split body of the Dragon God, Gu Yuena could summon the surrounding elemental power as long as she returned to her true form, even without divine power.
This was an innate ability of her race and body, independent of godly energy.
"Stop resisting. To oppose Lord Will of Dark Origin, you are utterly unqualified!"
The middle-aged man under the Black Serpent's control spoke with icy tone, his strength and speed suddenly multiplying several times over.
In response, Gu Yuena roared, and a silver-white dragon spear appeared before her.
Though it was merely formed of elemental force and could not compare to the true Silver Dragon Spear, its offensive power was not to be underestimated.
Boom!
With a thunderous crash, the Silver Dragon Spear met the middle-aged man's strike. The two figures quickly separated, only to clash again in furious combat.
"Wife Ei, who do you think will win?" Kong asked calmly as he watched the battle unfold.
"At this rate, Gu Yuena will be the one to lose." Ei answered without hesitation.
Though they seemed evenly matched now, the Black Serpent was sustained by the cauldron's dark origin. This was its domain, and as long as that cauldron existed, its power would not wane.
Gu Yuena, on the other hand, though superior in race, body, and bloodline, would inevitably fall behind if she could not achieve an instant kill. The longer the fight dragged on, the worse her position would become.
"That makes sense."
Kong nodded lightly, agreeing with his wife's words. Then he said, "In that case, wife Ei, go and help her."
"Husband, are you certain?" Ei asked once more, feeling it unworthy to waste her appearance here.
"Yes, go."
Hearing his firm decision, Ei did not argue further.
The space behind Kong suddenly shattered, and a graceful figure stepped out from within.
The moment Ei appeared, both Gu Yuena and the Black Serpent noticed her.
Compared to Gu Yuena's calm, the Black Serpent grew exceedingly solemn. It could not sense how Ei had arrived, nor why her body carried not the faintest ripple of aura.
Had this been outside, it might have mistaken her for nothing more than a beautiful human woman. But here, it dared not think so.
Because this space was created by the power of dark origin, ordinary people could never enter it. Yet this woman had arrived without the slightest disturbance, so easily that the Black Serpent realized at once her strength was far beyond its own.
With that thought, it dared not linger. Forcing Gu Yuena back with difficulty, it immediately tried to flee.
No matter what, the events here had to be reported to Lord Will of Dark Origin.
Seeing its intent to escape, Ei's beautiful and icy face remained calm, without the slightest concern. She only asked softly, "Husband, alive or dead?"
"Alive," Kong replied.
At his words, Ei's eyes narrowed slightly. She merely raised her right hand, and an overwhelming force replaced the dark origin's power, sealing off the Black Serpent's path of retreat.
"Who are you?!"
Terror and disbelief appeared in the Black Serpent's eyes.
It had never imagined that within this world and universe, a being's strength could surpass even that of the Will of Dark Origin.
What shocked it most was that this being's identity seemed human. This was almost inconceivable, since in this world humans ranked far beneath the beast race.
"You are not qualified to know."
As her words fell, Ei pressed her right hand slightly, and the space created by dark origin shattered. The Black Serpent's true body was sealed, its power and movements locked completely.
"Now then, let's talk."
Kong stepped before the Black Serpent, smiling faintly.
"Talk about what?" The Black Serpent still had not recovered from its fear and shock.
"The situation here."
Kong's tone was calm. "For example, how you gained control of this city, and how you came to know of the Will of Dark Origin. In short, everything related to it—I want to know."
"That's right."
At that moment, Gu Yuena also approached in human form. Her noble purple eyes burned with killing intent as she said coldly, "If a single word is false, your end will be miserable."
"Miserable?"
The Black Serpent only sneered, careless of the threat. "Even if I told you, would you let me go? Of course not. In that case, why should I reveal anything about Lord Will of Dark Origin?"
"Sometimes living is far more terrifying than death."
Kong smiled lightly, a glimmer flashing in his eyes. "If you speak, I can grant you a swift end. If not, what awaits you will make you wish for death."
"In that case, answer me one question first."
After a brief silence, the Black Serpent decided it had to understand.
"Speak," Kong said evenly, neither agreeing nor refusing.
"Tell me who you are, and what purpose drives you to seek Lord Will of Dark Origin." The Black Serpent's voice grew solemn. "Even if I die, I want to die knowing."
"Fine, no problem."
Kong agreed without hesitation. "But you must first tell us everything you know, and not a single lie may pass your lips."
