Chapter 395 - Chapter 395: Mixed Measures, A Perfect Storm, And A Monsoon Approach!

"Hello there viewers...Keiko here again...*Keiko proceeds to go and say this while traditionally bowing to the viewers as usual. To which Keiko then proceeds to go and bring her attention and eyesight back up again, in order to go and continue to address the viewers. Keiko also now proceeds to go and briefly clear her throat, as Keiko then proceeds to go and continue, to properly address the viewers*...

Now then viewers, for this chapter I will once again be covering several more transportation related accidents in history...And for this particular chapter viewers as like the last one, we will be covering another three of them...

And each of them, as shown by the chapter title of this particular chapter, is going to be covering three aviation accidents, one of which that will have been attributed in some way, to a case of 'a mixing up of altitude measurements'...

One of which that will have been attributed in some way, to a case of 'pilot error leading to an in flight break up'...

And one of which that will have been attributed in some way, to 'pilot error in poor weather leading to a runway overrun'...

Now then viewers, lets begin with the first of the three aviation accidents...

And for this one, we will start by going all the way back, to April 15, 1999...

And on this particular day...Korean Air Cargo Flight 6316...Which was a cargo flight originating in Shanghai, China, and was heading over to Seoul, South Korea. And on this particular day, the aircraft that was being used to operate the flight, was a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F...

Or what is also known as a freighter variant of the MD-11...

And on board Flight 6316, were two pilots, as well as a flight engineer...

The Captain of Flight 6316, was 54 year old Hong Sung-sil, the First Officer was 35 year old Park Bon-suk, and the flight engineer was 48 year old Park Byong-ki...

And as for what wound up happening with regard to the cause of the crash that would result involving Flight 6316?...

Well on takeoff from Shanghai, the First Officer wound up confusing the first assigned flight level with which Flight 6316 was required to climb to. Which in this case for those of you viewers who were wondering, the First Officer said that the Captain was supposed to be at a height of only 1500 feet. When in reality, the First Officer was supposed to say 1500 meters. Or 4900 feet. And tragically, this mistake on the First Officers part, was what lead the Captain to think that they were at least 3000 feet higher then they should have been. Which in this case, was what lead to the Captain putting Flight 6316 into a steep dive.

Which caused it to impact the ground only about 20 seconds later. With the impact killing all three crew members on board instantly. As well as a further 5 more people on the ground...

And now viewers, we will be moving onto the second of the three aviation accidents of this chapter...And for this one, we will be going all the way back, to February 8, 1988...

And on this particular date Nürnberger Flugdienst Flight 108, which at the time was being operated by a Swearingen SA-227AC Metroliner III...

And was operating from Hannover Airport in Germany, to Düsseldorf Airport which was also in Germany...

On this particular flight, were two pilots, and nineteen passengers...

The Captain of Flight 108, was 36 year old Ralf Borsdorf. He was hired by NFD in October 1987, and had been type rated on both the SA226 and SA227 variants of the Metroliner. And as such, he had a total flying experience of nearly 2,500 flight hours, including 277 hours as a commander on the Metroliner III. Borsdorf also began his training on the Metroliner III in October 1987, until November of that same year. His simulator training had included emergency procedures for dealing with electrical issues, such as bus switchovers and generator and battery failure exercises. And also as it would happen, Flight 108 was the captain's first flight of the day...

And the First Officer, was 28 year old Sibylle Heilmann. Who had been hired in July 1986 by NFD, which was a year before the captain's employment. And had a type rating on both the SA226 and SA227 Metroliners. And as a result, she had accumulated a total flying experience of over 2,500 hours, with more than 1,300 hours on the Metroliner III. And like the Captain, Flight 108 was also her first flight of the day...

And as for what wound up leading to the crash of Flight 108? Well as Flight 108 was coming in to land in Dusseldorf, a bolt of lightning wound up striking the aircraft on the fuselage, just in front of the left wing. Which tragically was where the main electrical wires for the electrical systems and their diodes were located. And as a result of the lightning strike, this in turn caused the failure of the diodes. Which in turn wound up causing a complete electrical failure of the entire aircraft. Which unfortunately in this case viewers, was what led to the crew making several erratic maneuvers in the thunder clouds that they had been flying through. Which unfortunately, wound up leading to the airframe being subjected to aerodynamic loads it was never designed to handle. And after only two minutes of erratic flying, the entire airframe simply wound up breaking apart in mid air. In what is known as an inflight breakup...

And of the 21 passengers and crew on Flight 108, there were no survivors...

And now viewers, we will be moving onto the third and final aviation accident of this chapter...And for this one, we will be heading quite a bit more forward in time...All the way forward in fact, to August 7, 2020...

And on this particular date, Air India Express Flight 1344. Which was a scheduled international passenger service from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, to Kozhikode in India. Which at the time, the aircraft being used to operate the route, was a Boeing 737-800...

On board Flight 1344, were 184 passengers, 4 flight attendants, and 2 pilots...

The Captain of Flight 1344, was 59 year old Deepak Sathe. Who along with being a former Indian Air Force pilot, had logged 10,000 hours of flying experience on the Boeing 737, including 6,662 as a Captain...

And the First Officer was 32 year old Akhilesh Kumar...

And as for the cause of the crash of Air India Express Flight 1344?

Well unfortunately at the time of Flight 1344 coming in to land at the airport in Kozhikode. The Captain wound up becoming slightly distracted by one of the cockpits windshield wipers not working properly. And as a result of this, as well as the Captain wanting to land so that he could help captain a flight out the next day. He wound up overshooting the runway threshold, and when you factor in that Flight 1344 wound up touching down way too far down the runway. This was what wound up leading to Flight 1344, to overshoot the runway and wind up falling down a short embankment at the end of the runway...

With the crash killing 21 of the 190 passengers and crew on board. In which both pilots were among the 21 who were killed in the crash...

So the moral here viewers, is always make sure that you are prepared. Because if you aren't, or you are not sure that you are in fact prepared. Then take a few more moments to think, and perhaps rethink just what it is that you are trying to be properly be prepared for...

And finally viewers, though I have said this in many of these same chapters before...

I will once again reiterate, that I don't mean any sort of disrespect, to those whose lives were lost by either this tragedy, or those like it...

As the only reason why I am mentioning them in these fanfics, is to help preserve the legacy of those who were injured or killed in these tragedies...

And also, to make sure that those who lost people in these tragedies, have some sort of another way to remember their loved ones...

And now viewers, this now marks the end of this non action packed filler chapter...But you can look forward to things getting right back into the action in the next chapter...And so viewers, from me, Angel Bluebell, Zachary, Catherine, and everyone else in The Four Aces Alliance...We all look forward to seeing you lot in the next chapter...So viewers, see you all there, okay?...*Keiko proceeds to go and say this, while Keiko is also proceeding to go and smile with both of her brown eyes closed. And this is also while Keiko currently has her head tilted to one side, in her usual very cute looking manner as well*"
