Chapter 18 - The powerful Maylene: Enter Mars The Galactic Crusader.

After a fierce battle with the gym guards, it was time to take on the gym leader; however, Maylene made us an interesting offer.

"I will challenge you two to a double battle; you each will get two Pokemon, and I will get 4," she said.

'Usually, in the games, it isn't until the fifth gym that the gym leaders use 4 Pokemon. This is to test the ability of the trainer and to set the level of difficulty during the game; I guessthis counts as two because it's a double battle, 'I thought tomyself.

"Okay then, let's do this; I'll choose Etsuko and Kusunagi," I announced.

"And I'll choose Chyna and Lucario," shouted Dawn.

"Go, Meditite, Machoke, Lucario, and Sudo-Woodo," Maylene called out.

'This may be tough. Unlike the previous gym leaders' teams, this one seems to have some pretty heavy hitters. No doubt two Lucarios clashing would be awesome to see, and Kusunagi can handle Machoke at his current level, being an Infernape, but Etsuko versus Meditite and Nidoqueen versus Soodoo-Woodoo will be a hard battle,' I thought to myself.

"Now go, Lucario. Use Machoke to take on that enemy Lucario and Infernape," said Maylene.

"Kusunagi, you know what to do," I said.

Kusunagi intercepted the Machoke and delivered a barrage of punches that not only broke the sound barrier but also generated flames.

"Erupting Mach Punch," I shouted as Kusunagi delivered a JoJo-style punch barrage to Machoke.

Dawn's Lucario and Maylene's Lucario battled intensely. Maylen's Lucario delivered a spinning hook kick, but Dawn's Lucario countered with a duck into a double low kick before following up with a combination of a low side kick, a kick to the guy, and a somersault kick. The other Lucario countered with a roundhouse kick that Dawn's Lucario ducked under but was followed by a consecutive spinning roundhouse kick, which Dawn's Lucario wasn't lucky enough to dodge the second time.

Machoke attacked Kusunagi with a Mach Punch of his own. Eventually, Machoke kicked Kusunagi in the gut before setting him up for a Seismic Toss.

"Kusunagi now," I shouted.

Kusunagi utilized a technique I had taught him: he reversed Machoke's grapple into a joint lock around his neck, left arm, and thigh, popping them out of joint before pulling him into an inverted Romero special.

"Infernaaaape/Muscle Spark!" he shouted as he slammed the Machoke to the ground, but Machoke wasn't down just yet. He now activated his guy's ability as his body glowed red and his muscles tightened. He attacked Kusunagi in a fit of rage, palming Kusunagi by the head, and then slammed him face first to the ground before he got dragged across the ground into a wall.

"Kusunagi now," I shouted. Kusanagi intercepted The left hook Machoke threw at him with a one-inch punch to the gut before delivering a strike to the chin and then executing a powerful spinning uppercut that knocked the larger Pokemon backwards before he got angry and the flames in his head went full blast. Then he attacked Machoke with a powerful barrage of punches and kicks before kicking him into the air and then executing another barrage before spiking him to the ground, followed by one more barrage before blasting Machoke with a Flamethrower that he shot from his hands like a Kamehameha.

"That's our Meteor Combination!" I shouted.

"That's enough, Machoke, return," said Maylene.

Etsuko fought Meditite, who was surprisingly tough, as Meditite used Zen Headbutt to blast Etsuko back. Etsuko decided it was time to go full blast; she wound up her fist as she attacked Meditite, who went for another Zen Headbutt. However, at the last moment, Etsuko used Double Team and dodged the attack before coming from above as her hand glowed with a large white ball of power.

"That's it, Etsuko, use the mega punch," I cheered.

Etsuko delivered a powerful flying smash into the small Pokémon, who tried to use Protect to generate a force field; however, Etsuko radiated with an aura that shattered the protective barrier.

"What was that?" Asked Dawn.

"It's the secret ability of Kubfu; it's called Unseen Fist, and it allows him to bypass all defensive techniques, including Protect," I said.

Meditite lay on the floor, passed out from the power of the blow.

"Meditite is unable to battle; Etsuko the Kubfu wins." Said the gym official,

The battle between the two Lucarios heated up. Dawn's Lucario attacked Maylene's Lucario with a double snap kick to the monster's knee and hip before delivering a spinning hook kick to the temple, which sent the Lucario across the ground, but he managed to redirect his slide and came back with a run into a step up off the body of Dawn's Lucario via her leg and then performed a repetitive stomp to her clavicles before backflipping away and then delivering a flying crescent kick to his enemy's head.

Dawn's Lucario and Maylene's Lucario engaged in a swift exchange of punches, parries, and redirects until Maylene's Lucario attempted an aura-powered punch, only for Dawn's Lucario to counter it with a double snap kick that launched his foe into the air before executing a huge sweeping uppercut and then ending with a spinning roundhouse & Crescent Kick combination to the head.

The match would end, however, when Dawn's Lucario would land a boxer-style body blow rush before generating an aura sphere in his palms and delivering a butterfly palm to the enemy Pokémon's chest, blasting him with said sphere and ending the fight.

"The Byakkoh Bite!" I shouted internally with surprise.

(An attack that the Soulgain uses in Super Robot Wars looks just like I described it.)

"Maylene's Lucario is unable to continue the battle; Dawn's Lucario wins," said the gym official.

With Maylene's team down three Pokemon, it was up to her soodoo-woodoo to win the match.

Soodoo-woodoo would fight Chyna the Nidoqueen, and the fake tree Pokemon battled. Soodoo-woodoo would deliver a mighty Rock Smash to Chyna's chest, but she would catch it and deliver a powerful cross chop. She would then hammer him with four punches before waving her hand in front of her face and then delivering a right overhand haymaker, flooring the rock tree. Then she lifted him up into a side headlock before putting him through a sidewalk slam. She then grabbed him by the legs before stepping over his back and pulling his legs back at an angle in a standing variant of the Boston crab and pressing her knee into his back.

"That's the Lion Tamer" (the original name of the Walls of Jericho). The lock was strong enough to push Soodoo-Woodoo to the breaking point. Soodoo-Woodoo managed to break the hold by rolling out of it. Soodoo-Woodoo used Thunder Punch, and Chyna used her Mega Punch as the electric spark powered up Soodoo-Woodoo's fist and the giant glowing ball of Chyna's fist as the attacks clashed before the explosion rocked the arena as the two stood there. Soodoo-Woodoo's left hand was damaged, and Chyna's hand was smoking. Chyna delivered a tail slap into Soodoo-Woodoo's jaw, knocking him down in a spiral before She ran up to him, performing a big splash before lifting Soodoo-Woodoo up into a one-armed vertical suplex position, making what could only be assumed as a gun-to-the-temple gesture before she leaped up into the air before performing a powerful jackhammer slam. The attack was enough to put him down, and Soodoo-Woodoo tried to recover but fainted with swirls in its 'eyes.

"Soodoo-woodoo is unable to continue; Chyna the Nidoqueen wins," said the gym official.

Maylene gave each of us the Cobble Badge, and she then mentioned that she had a lot more to learn from this battle.

And then we went to rest in the local hotel. I was still surprised to find out that this version of Dawn was a fusion of the anime, video game, and manga versions of Dawn.

As a result she was very wealthy and we were able to live in luxury while in town while we were in there I found myself at the Veilstone City Game Corner where with the help of my system I was able to win a ton of games and as a result bought a couple of really good items including a focus Headband and assault vest and a choice scarf and with my systems replication feature I am able to create three of each in under a two days, in the meantime I gave the focus Headband to Jet, the assault vest to Kusunagi and the Choice scarf to Riolu, a few hours later and I found dawn who ran into her friend Barry, he looked at me and smirked, " I've been improving my team since last time let's have a battle Leroy," he said.

I scanned his team.

'Jesus! ' I exclaimed internally,

(Meanwhile in heaven)

Jesus Christ sneezed.

"Bless you, son," said Yaweh.

Berry's team consisted of his starter, now a fully evolved level 40 Torterra, a level 38 Buizel, a level 39 Chatot, a level 37 Houndoom, and a level 40 Heracross.

"My God, he's got one of the most broken teams I've ever seen." (Back in heaven) God rolled his eyes. "Looks like someone was in shock again," said Yaweh.

First he's got Torterra, an absolute tank when playing the heal stall strategy; then he's got Heracross, one of the heaviest hitters of Gen 2 Pokemon and its Gen 4 remakes; then he's got Chatot, who has the signature move chatter, which is guaranteed a crit the louder it gets; then he's got Houndoom, which is a speed demon; and next he's got Buizel, who is a pretty balanced Pokemon but still can use surf, which does really heavy damage'

"Okay, then let's have a battle," said Leroy. Personally, he was excited to see what this time could do.

"Alright, first go, Chatler," said Berry.

"Fine, go, Hayabusa," I said, sending out my own bird Pokemon, the Staraptor, and the Chatot faced each other and began to battle in the sky.

"Chatler uses HyperVoice," he said.

Chatot let out a screech that sent sonic vibrations through the area, which dealt a crippling blow to the three of us, but Staraptor landed a left hook with its left wing and then a flying dropkick before flipping Chatot into the air.

"Now Chatler, use Chatter," said Berry.

But Staraptor was faster and delivered a drill peck into Chatler' breast before flipping him upside down and executing a spinning piledriver into the ground.

"Starap-toooorrrr/Inazuma Ogoshiiii!" She shouted before slamming the small parrot Pokemon into the ground.

Next it was time for a firefight, with Barry sending out Houndoom and Kusunagi answering the call.

The battle would begin, and Berry would launch his attack using a smoke screen and bite, but Kusunagi would counter using a back elbow into Houndoom' jaw before performing a four-junction hook combination, knocking Houndoom left, right, up, and down before he made use of his Mach punch, but Houndoom performed a backflip into a takedown before powering up a fire blast aimed at Kusunagi. Blasting him with a firebomb in the form of the Japanese symbol Gozen-No-Okuribi/Five Mountain Send-Off Fires, or simply the Daimonji, hit the Pokemon hard.

"Kusunagi!" I shouted,

But Kusunagi wouldn't go down that easily. He stood there with his arm held up in a forearm elbow guard. He then released a powerful flame from his head as if going into a Super Saiyan transformation. He then performed a powerful beatdown on the hound before delivering a powerful fire punch to the hound's flank before delivering a sledgehammer strike to its head and then delivering a body blow rush to his core before hitting him with a lower body blow, a strike to the chin, and then a powerful airborne spinning uppercut, "Infernaaaape/Meitsu-Shoryuken!" He shouted before he ended the attack using fire spin in the form of a 540 Quadruple Roundhouse Kick to the dog's body.

"Houndoom, return!" Said Barry, calling the small hellhound to his Poké Ball before choosing another Poké Ball and pressing the button, then throwing it. "Go, Heracross!" He announced.

"Come back, Infernape!" I said, doing the same action as Berry before picking the one Pokemon I knew could best Berry, "I choose you, Jet!" I said.

Berry's Heracross and my Kubfu squared off, the Flying-Fighting Bug-Type Pokemon based on the rhinoceros beetle versus the Fighting Bear-Type.

"Don't hold back, Jet," I said.

Jet assumed what appeared to be a Dragon Style mabu stance similar to the one Goku uses in Dragonball Z.

While Heracross assumed a Tang guard of Muay Thai.

'I see... So he uses Muay Thai. Interesting...'

The fight began, and Heracross came at Jet with a big lariat, but the small bear checked it with his forearm and performed a spinning elbow to the beetle's chest into a leaping corkscrew uppercut into the chin.

The Beetle would counter by performing a flying knee drop, which Jet would sidestep at the last minute before catching the bug midair with a Rear Stunner.

Heracross was As the move's name states, stunned by the move before Jet delivered a punch rush all over his midsection while shifting his weight like a boxer before stepping back and then delivering a rear thrust kick, "Kubfu/Super Kick!" Kubfu shouted as the system translated his native tongue.

Heracross was launched across the battlefield as Kubfu came to hit Heracross with a left hook. The monster delivered a powerful punch to Kubfu's midsection with the same force as the small bear Pokemon's previous move.

"No way He taught Heracross the move Revenge," I said.

"That's right, and I also taught Heracross Body Slam," and right as he said it, Heracross performed a flying strike spear into the monster's midsection.

Kubfu got up, but he flinched.

And Heracross went for a big flying knee aimed at Jets' midsection, only for the small bear to release a dark aura and deliver a powerful punch coated in a violet aura aimed at the bug's forehead.

"Kubfu/Reversal!" He shouted and knocked Heracross to the corner before the Kubfu entered a higher state of awareness, its body becoming coated in a flaming black aura, and suddenly the Pokémon glowed white and grew taller as it became its evolved form, the Single Strike Urshifu.

"Alright, Jet, you evolved. Now let's lay the smackdown on that bug," I said with a slasher grin.

"Urshifu, you're damn right, I'm opening up a can of Whoop-Ass brand aerosol," said Kubfu telepathically.

Urshifu moved so fast he translocated and appeared next to Heracross with his hand held level with the bug's liver area and executed the One-Inch Punch. Before performing a powerful lunging elbow strike to the Bug-Type Pokemon's midsection, "Urshifu/Violent Shadow Fist!" Shouted Jet as he damaged the monster's midsection before finally ending with a powerful sweeping uppercut that generated dark energy.

"Urshifu/Shadow Punch revision: Shadow Uppercut," said Jet.

BAM! The impact could be heard across the city as Heracross was launched airborne before Jet flew into the air and locked the bugs. An arm underneathhis left arm grabbed Heracross's thigh with its right, and then locked the bug-pokemon's other arm and head between his legs as Jet then drove the monster to the ground headfirst.

"That's the Big Ben Edge!" I shouted as the attack created a huge impact and knocked Heracross out.

"Heracross is unable to battle. The winner is the vagrant Leroy Jackson," said the official.

Barry walked up to me.

"You beat me... but I'll be back," he said, then ran off to train some more.

Dawn ran up to me and placed a kiss on my cheek.

"... um, why did you do that?" I asked.

"Heh heh, that's for me to know and for you to find out," she said with a flirtatious chuckle.

'I knew why I just wouldn't peg a lady to kiss a man in public, at least one of her caliber,' I thought to myself.

After going to the Veilstone City game corner and winning *ahem, cheating* ahem my way to earning enough tokens to afford a zoom lens, I was able to see the distance we were from my Coronet. I was also finished creating another focus band to help Etsuko learn the full mastery of the flow state.

Sure, Jet may have gotten stronger with a plot armor-esque level up, but it wasn't as straightforward as that. See, Jet was already on the verge of evolving; he had mastered almost every technique in terms of The scroll of the Darkness and I had begun to train under it too. From what I could tell, the power behind the scroll of the Darkness is similar to the Dou-ki from History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi, while the scroll of the Waters was similar in design to that of Sei-ki. For a person unfamiliar with that series, Dou-ki is basically unfiltered rage that is controlled, and Sei-ki is a calm that hides the true fury of a person.

While the Ki in the scroll is more akin to anime-style energy, basically called Aura, those who can harness it as humans are called soul cultivators; however, to be a soul cultivator, one has to have an exceptional latent ability and to have achieved inner peace.

A few hours later Dawn and I were in a hotel room Dawn asked me if me if I was going to name lucario and I nodded yes I've got a name for lucario his name will be Iori which i named him due to his dark typing and element but also because he's going to be Kusunagi's rival.

To be continued.

Honestly guys I've been taking a break because I've had other stories on fanfiction and Wattpad I've been writing the evolution of Jet was supposed to happen in the battle with Maylene but I decided to have it happen after Barry's battle, also I decided that Etsuko will evolve before the next battle with Cyrus I'm also working in the development of Dawn's relationship with Leroy and as for Meylene while I was originally going to ship her as a harem entry due to better judgement I decided not to because she's eleven so no Maylene.

Anyways that's it for this chapter see you next time ciao.
