Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Registration

"I'll take the next in line!"

Ana and Arthur walked up to the stand to do their citizen sign up.

"Hello there! What can I help y'all with today?"

"We're here for citizen sign up."

"You got it!"

The woman then grabbed two forms and handed them to Ana and Arthur.

"Please fill these out to the best of your ability and bring it back when you're done."

Arthur grabbed the form and gazed through it quickly.

"It'll take about 10 minutes to go over it and we'll decide if y'all are qualified for citizenship here in Tetrine."

Something's off. Why is this so similar to how the process would go back in our old world. I'm sure the people of the class couldn't have spread influence that quickly.

Form:

Name First/Last:

Gender:

Age:

Characteristics:

Ability? Yes or No

If yes, please describe your ability:

If no, leave blank.

You will be examined by a detector's ability so don't try to lie

What worth do you bring to Tetrine:

The form is also similar to how an information form would look in our old world, though there's some information missing and some added info to suit this worlds logic.

"Arthur, for the ability question."

"Yea…I'm not sure what we should do. I remember Mary said that we had no abilities, but we also don't know exactly what Mary's ability detected. When she used detection our abilities were still dormant and locked. We also don't know what process the city has set up for detection. It's likely that it could be way different than what Mary was able to detect. It'll also cause problems if we show that we do have abilities, but they detect that we don't have any."

Arthur thinks for a moment. He looked around and found a possible solution. There was a ranker proclaiming that his detection allowed him to see the future of your NE. If you had no ability, he would tell you if you had a chance of getting one. If you already had one, he would tell you what its possible potential is.

Arthur walked over to the ranker and asked for a quick detection.

"Sure."

The ranker examined Arthur.

This is risky, but it's the only choice.

"Yea…sorry to say but there is a very slim chance of you getting an ability activation."

So that means he can't detect that I have abilities either. Still don't know why though…*sighs* Just another problem that needs solving. It'll probably be the same result but I'll have him check anyway.

"Could you also detect her over there."

"For sure!"

"Oh yea! It seems like her basic healing magic has a lot of potential! You found yourself a wonderful healer!"

What? He can detect Ana's but not mine?! *Sighs* Even more problems added to the more problems.

"Ok thank you."

"No problem! And remember to have a wonderful time in Tetrine!"

Arthur walked over to Ana and explained the new found information.

"It's weird he can detect mine but not yours."

"It is yes…"

But why though. This doesn't make sense. This completely derails the theory that detection failed due to abilities being locked.

Suddenly Arthur felt a pebble hit against his forehead.

What the…

Arthur then looked toward Ana.

"Hey what was that for-"

A kiss. Ana leaned in and caught Arthur completely off guard. His face grew beat red.

He initially wanted to pull away, but this moment felt so refreshing. His mind felt…at ease.

After a few seconds they slowly pulled away from each but still slightly keeping eye contact.

"W-what was that for."

"I don't know honestly. You just kinda seemed distracted. I get that you're concerned about all this, but remember, one…"

Arthur's eyes widened.

"step…"

Familiar?

"…at a time." "…at a time."

In that moment Arthur got a sudden vision. A memory maybe? It wasn't his. But it was? It was really blurred, impossible to make out what was happening. But he knew one thing was certain, this warmth, it was Ana's, and it was followed by those words once more.

"One…step… at a time."

"Hellooooo Arthur"

Ana was waving her hand in Arthur's face trying to get his attention.

He finally snapped back to reality once more.

"Ok now I'm really concerned. Before, you looked preoccupied and lost in thought, but just now you looked, almost as if you were somewhere else."

"S-sorry. I'm not quite sure myself."

Arthur wasn't sure what to make of what just happened. He took a moment then inhaled and exhaled deeply.

Ana stood there staring still with both a confused and concerned expression.

"Don't worry I'm fine now."

"You sure? We can take a break. We've been almost non-stop traveling and so much has happened recently. I noticed back then at that goblins camp. You pretty much passed out the moment you leaned up against that tree."

So she's been that observant of me.

Arthur almost let out a slight smile before placing his hand on her head and slightly ruffling her hair.

"I promise I'm fine, now let's continue this thing."

Ana still clearly not convinced, accepted that answer for now.

"If you say so. Now, what exactly did he say about my ability, so that I know what to put down."

"It's just your ability."

"Obviously, but what did he say about it though?"

"Nothing he just said that it was basic healing magic with a lot of potential ."

"Arthur…"

"What?"

"What exactly about my healing magic do you find 'basic'."

Arthur suddenly realized what Ana was trying to say.

"You're right…

Arthur thought for a moment.

"It's fine just put basic healing magic down. Maybe your ability is normal after all."

Ana and Arthur finished their forms and brought them back to the woman at the stand.

This is risky but I have no other choice. Hopefully this gamble pays off.

"You know Arthur, couldn't care what people think isn't something you should put down."

"Yea well I couldn't care"

"Clearly… anyway Kuroo is a weird last name."

"Yea my mom said my father chose it before he left."

"Oh…"

An awkward silence filled the air when suddenly the lady came back with their results.

Arthur and Ana stared in silence, holding their breath in anticipation for the results.

"Seems like you're both clear to become citizens!"

They let out a sigh of relief.

The woman then handed them a card.

"Enjoy your new life in Tetrine!"
