Chapter 221 - Chapter 220 - Fiendfyre vs Kirin.

[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]

Third Person POV

London.

...

...

'He wants me to cast my best spell against him?!' Voldemort thought, looking at Severus.

He was lost, he couldn't simply leave now, Severus would be ready to stop him. His eyes darted in every direction — they were surrounded, there were too many Aurors and they were all ready to attack at any moment.

His gaze dropped to his leg beneath his cloak — he had been wounded by a dagger Severus had thrown at him. He had already removed the weapon, but the pain was excruciating for Voldemort, not to mention he could no longer use Apparition.

'How does he have all these abilities and tools...?' Voldemort was beginning to see he'd been at a disadvantage from the moment he tried to face this boy.

He possessed a magical power the Dark Lord couldn't comprehend — how had he attained such strength? He had shown so much power that even the magic absorption trap had exploded under the pressure of his magic.

That creature that had annihilated all the wizards who were with him, while no spell worked against it — they were all killed, except for him.

All his plans... everything he had built...

All his plans had begun to crumble ever since the two Dark Lords became enemies — no, since Severus assumed the identities of the Mysterious Alchemist and the Hogsmeade Assassin.

He still thought he had some advantage when he launched his attack, even after losing so many soldiers for his cause in the Muggle city. He attacked his shop and there was no reaction at all, expecting a war to break out — but nothing came.

But then, the truth came — the second Dark Lord was a boy trapped in a painting at Durmstrang Institute — something Voldemort never understood, but that was probably the source of his power. He did things within those paintings to grow stronger, that could explain all his strange powers.

Now his gaze landed on Severus, who didn't even seem to care about being surrounded. After all, all the Aurors there were also against him, yet he remained eerily calm, staring at Voldemort, waiting for his reaction after being challenged.

Voldemort was pale. He was faltering. He couldn't defeat him. He would be overpowered. Forgotten. He would die tonight.

'No! I can't die. I am an immortal being! And no matter how powerful this boy is and how absurd his abilities may be, I will return!'

He was the greatest Dark wizard of all time and had reached a level with his Horcruxes that no one else ever had. He split his soul into multiple pieces. So he was confident that his soul would be anchored in this world.

He could return as soon as the opportunity arose, and he would have his revenge.

'If I lose here, I won't lose like a coward.' Even if his body were destroyed, he would fight.

But it wouldn't be the end.

And one day he would return. He would have the chance to rise again, to build a new army. He might no longer be able to do it here in England, since with so many fallen and part of the families gone tonight, it would be hard to find more families willing to join his cause.

But he could travel the world seeking allies.

He would also study Severus Snape more closely and discover how his powers worked.

He would have his chance to destroy him.

He turned back to Severus with cold determination. He charmed the boy with serenity.

Severus seemed to enjoy seeing Voldemort's reactions.

Then, Severus acted, and the first thing he did was conjure a barrier.

He moved his wand and, quickly, several glyphs began to circle around them, forming a shield, surprising the Aurors, who immediately began casting spells to try and break it, not wanting to lose the chance to capture the two.

But the barrier held, as their spells ricocheted off once more.

Some Aurors tried to enter, since the barrier didn't have a solid shield, only a type of enchantment. That alone already showed the level of glyph magic Severus had reached.

He had just created a barrier instantly, and it was quite complex.

As they tried to get in, they immediately felt their bodies thrown back, unable to get closer.

The spells kept bouncing off, returning to the attackers, while shouts from the leaders ordered them to stop — all still alert and watching the two wizards inside the barrier.

The area was completely surrounded.

There were at least two hundred Ministry agents there, encircling the place, while ordinary wizards were also running to the scene.

Even Hogwarts professors appeared on top of the roofs of nearby buildings.

"It's Severus..." Flitwick murmured, as Professor McGonagall looked on cautiously, watching Severus Snape and Voldemort staring each other down in the middle of the place.

They were on the street in front of the Ministry of Magic.

We can say Voldemort wasn't intimidated by the barrier Severus had just conjured.

He raised his wand and began casting his most powerful enchantment.

"Fiendfyre!" he shouted, as flames began exploding behind him, forming a Fiendfyre greater than any he had ever summoned before.

This was an extremely powerful spell, and Voldemort controlled the flames with precision as they began to grow, exploding and forming the first head of the serpent behind him, rising from the ground.

Severus watched silently and responded with a powerful spell of his own.

Obviously, he was more powerful than Voldemort, but he wouldn't go overboard.

He pointed his wand to the sky, which then emitted electricity.

The few clouds in the sky suddenly began to expand, forming a massive black cloud.

Everyone immediately looked up, stunned, not knowing what kind of spell that was.

At the same time, they expected it to be the same one that had been cast in Diagon Alley, where a rain of lightning had fallen from the sky to destroy the fire serpent Voldemort had conjured before the battle inside the Ministry.

In the next moment, a roar erupted from the clouds, and lightning spread across the colossal formation.

"What is that?" Professor Longbottom, who stood with the other professors, murmured in awe, while murmurs began rising all around.

The people watching the sky had no idea what it was — whatever it was, it was a spell no one had ever heard of.

The serpent began to explode, as Voldemort looked up at the sky in surprise as well.

At the very least, he knew he would be answered with something powerful, and with his body not being destroyed by something so great, it would boost his reputation when he returned from the dead.

Behind Voldemort, the serpent kept growing, roaring like a massive snake, while the people around started screaming in terror.

At the same time, Severus, still pointing his wand, unleashed a lightning bolt that shot into the sky so fast its path was already drawn the next moment.

It struck the storm clouds, and suddenly, a massive thunderbolt came down straight from the sky, bringing with it a blinding flash that made everyone cover their eyes before they saw an enormous blue light at the center of the place.

"By Merlin... what is that?" Alastor Moody looked on in shock as he saw a serpent unlike anything he had ever seen. It was made of blue lightning, with features that weren't snake-like, yet no one could quite say what kind of creature it was. Despite its serpentine body, it had arms, and its head resembled a dragon's.

It was a Japanese dragon — it seemed no one there was familiar with such a thing. It came from Muggle legends, originating in China. There was no record that a creature like that type of dragon had ever existed in the magical world.

The dragon was over a hundred meters long, circling the entire area and hovering above, its head resting above Severus. It was far larger than Voldemort's Fiendfyre, who couldn't help but admire it, wondering how he had never seen anything like it before. Voldemort would wager that Dumbledore would have the same expression of surprise he now wore.

"Kirin. That's the name of this spell," Severus commented calmly, as the dragon still floated in the sky, waiting for his command to strike.

"Don't think you've already won!" Voldemort exclaimed, as he increased the size of the Fiendfyre even more — larger than any he had ever cast. He would not lose without using all his power.

He would show the wizarding world why they had all once feared him — and he would return one day.

"Very well. Let's end this, Tom Riddle," Severus replied calmly, as Voldemort showed a flash of rage. It seemed Severus knew his true identity, but that no longer mattered.

Then, Voldemort moved his arm, charging forward under everyone's gaze.

In front of him, the fire began to roar. Over fifty meters long, the serpent of flames charged straight toward Severus, while he, too, raised his wand, and the Kirin began to move, advancing against the giant serpent.

"Quick, raise the shields!" the Ministry leaders immediately gave the order, as dozens upon dozens of shields began to rise.

At that moment, even the Hogwarts professors raised magical protections, trying to defend themselves from the impending impact, as the fire serpent and the lightning Kirin collided violently the next moment, generating a shockwave that began to sweep everything around with powerful wind. Some shields simply exploded, while others faltered and were torn apart.

The entire place became engulfed in flames and lightning, flying in all directions, as screams of horror and panic erupted from the crowd trying to protect themselves.

Voldemort was making a tremendous effort, holding firm, forcing the serpent's head forward with his wand arm to clash against the lightning, while Severus remained calm, his wand lowered, the Kirin growling constantly.

"Let's end this," he simply said, and moved his wand to the side.

In the next moment, the flames began to be consumed by the lightning, which quickly reached and overwhelmed Voldemort, who was shocked to see his serpent being easily pushed back.

So easily that he didn't even have time to react before the lightning surged toward him and completely destroyed the Fiendfyre.

In the instant that followed, the entire area exploded with a thunderclap louder than anything they had ever heard in their lives, hurling several wizards backward, as the lightning spread wildly, releasing electric discharges everywhere, with no shield able to protect them.

It wasn't fatal, obviously, but everyone began collapsing unconscious, feeling their bodies consumed by electricity — which was not a pleasant experience at all.

Severus could still see Voldemort there, as he was being consumed by most of the lightning.

But Severus couldn't let that happen. He controlled the lightning so it wouldn't be fatal.

The explosion erupted, raising dust shortly after, while the entire area echoed with the sound, spreading across the whole of England's capital. Many were asking what that had been, as the cloud of smoke rose.

The Aurors and professors looked at the scene, with the entire street destroyed, several wizards lying unconscious on the ground, as they quickly tried to assess the situation. Others stared directly into the center of the battle, asking what had happened.

Lightning still flickered through the air for a few seconds, but the giant creature made of lightning and the flames — they were all gone.

A wand movement appeared from the center of the smoke cloud, and with it, a gentle wind simply pushed away all the dust.

Then, Severus appeared in the middle of the destroyed place, standing in front of a fallen, half-charred body.

The body hadn't been vaporized, but one leg and both arms were gone. They had been completely destroyed, and half the face had also been consumed.

"He's alive... that's good," Severus said, as he pointed his wand and began inscribing several glyphs that started to bleed into Voldemort's head.

"With this, you won't be able to kill yourself. Your soul will still be bound to this body.

When we meet again, I will have already destroyed all your Horcruxes.

Or rather... I will have absorbed every part of your soul into my shadow army," Severus said calmly.

But Voldemort wasn't truly aware of the boy's plans for him.

Had he known what Severus had just said, he certainly would have cast a spell to destroy his own body the moment he was cornered.

He would never have imagined he'd become a servant after death.

That would have terrified him like nothing ever had before.

In any case, Severus turned under the gaze of all those still pointing wands at him, then transformed into lightning and shot into the sky, leaving everyone stunned.

Only Voldemort's living body remained there — or at least, part of it.

From that night on, there is now only one Dark Lord.

"That was quite a spectacle..." Esteve Vujin was there on another rooftop, also watching the entire battle, while his eyes followed the lightning disappearing from the London skies, heading toward some distant place.
