The caravan reached Crag Mountain shortly after midday on the fourth day.
Tomas Newl recognized the public entrance from the merchant packet before the guide identified it. A broad road entered the base of the mountain through doors tall enough for loaded wagons. Stables extended to both sides. Stone yards separated arriving caravans from travelers preparing to leave, and gnome attendants directed each group toward the space suited to its animals and cargo.
There was no forest filled with redcaps.
There was no hostile gate.
The normal entrance had been built for traffic.
Tomas remained with the caravan until its wagon was assigned a stable lane. Kale's order allowed him to enter openly. It did not allow him to abandon the people who had carried him across four days of road because his destination appeared.
