Hannah's eyes widened to the size of a saucer, looking as though they were about to pop right out of her eyes sockets. "What?" Her voice came out louder than she had expected, mostly due to the shock. "Why would you want to meet him? What-what are you thinking, Ethan?"
He stood up straighter this time and stepped away from her, cold air immediately rushing in to fill the gap between them. "Why? Afraid?" His voice was sharp and cold like he was merely speaking to a stranger and not the woman who he claimed he loved and will be there for.
She swallowed the knot inside her throat, forcing herself to stay calm for fear of being exposed. She shook her head despite her racing heart. "No, why would I be?" Her hand instinctively fell on her belly. She tilted her chin up slightly as if in defiance. "I'm not afraid."
"Then let me speak to Nathan."
