Chapter 3 - Manifestation And Orientation.(1)

'It's easy to feign this boy's original personality for a little while longer until we get to the school they mentioned.'

Hans, now Genji, sauntered behind his new 'friends' as they led him to class. They bantered with and teased him many times but since Genji's original character was that of a coward, it was only natural for his reactions to take on a more passive nature.

Ignoring the worthless banter, Genji paid more attention to the world around him.

He was always in awe at the advanced structures present in the modern world. As they walked, he couldn't keep his eyes off the skyscrapers, the strange lights, sounds, even the speech patterns of the people.

Everything was so...different. But there was something strange.

On a lot of people's shoulders or concealed in dark street corners were strange, grotesque...creatures.

Not the type that people would keep as pets. But actual horrific monsters that only could be heard of in myths.

The strangest thing was, people acted like they weren't there.

Were these creatures commonplace in this society? Or could the people not see them?

Genji was also confused about this matter.

'I still remember when I first developed psychic vision in my 'mother's' womb. Those creatures still give me a bad feeling. I need to find out more about them.'

It didn't take long for them to get to school. The boys sprinted to class as time was ticking down until the final bell rang.

When the boys arrived, Kaito, the fastest runner, pushed open the door with all his might and rushed into the class.

By the time Genji caught up, the rest of the boys were taking their seats and he followed suit.

Unfortunately, things didn't seem like they won't be that easy today.

"Ahem. Mr. Fujiwara. You've managed to barely make it on time today. Hm...let's see, the time is 8:29 AM. You made it just before first period started. Impressive."

This calm, almost cold voice came from the teacher's desk.

Genji didn't even have to look to know who the voice belonged to. From the boy's memories, he could grasp that it belonged to Miss Utahime, a substitute teacher at the school.

Genji turned to her with an awkward grin and replied, "M-miss Utahime, good morning. I'm sorry for being la-"

"Don't bother, go take a seat. Class is about to begin. Try to be earlier tomorrow."

Genji scratched the back of his head and proceeded to his chair, focusing his attention on Utahime.

'There's something...off about her. I could feel it.'

Miss Utahime had long blackish-purple hair that extended down her back, with some strands tied behind her head, thin eyebrows, brown eyes and a scar on the right side of her face that crossed the bridge of her nose. She is slender and of average height.

Utahime wore a traditional miko outfit consisting of a white kosode and red umanori-styled hakama pants, despite wearing modern brown colored boots.

But, that wasn't it. Her appearance, while eccentric compared to the teachers around her, wasn't the only strange thing about her.

'She's not normal. At a glance, I could tell. But what is it...'

Genji's curiosity was pushing him to the point of wanting to scour the far reaches of her mind, but he didn't.

'I can't control my powers well enough for me to do so without shattering her mind or knocking her unconcious. I'll have to find another way.'

Coming to this conclusion, Genji just sat back and listened to the class, wondering what he could do about the feeling he got from her.

'Maybe my senses are going crazy but, there has to be a reason...'

The day went by as any school day would, with Genji going about it just like the original owner of the body would.

Although it was his first day in a modern school, there wasn't much for him to be excited about. That ship had sailed the moment the classes began.

DING! DING! DING! DING!

The bell rang. It was finally time for this slog of a day to be over.

'Yeah...I'm not doing that again. As much as I want to retain the identity of this guy, doing this for five days a week isn't something I wanna do. Today is the first and last day that I'll be here.'

Genji grabbed his backpack and walked out of the class into the hallway, his mind still focused on a certain someone.

'Why does she bother me so much?'

And almost as if it was fate, the moment he turned a corner to head down the stairs, he saw her coming up.

"Ah, Miss Utahime!"

Like before, he switched back to the original Genji's personality.

Utahime glanced at him and walked by in a calm manner, saying, "Hurry up and go home. Be careful when you do. Try not to be late tomorrow."

She said nothing else. Her words left no space for conversation.

Genji raised an eyebrow and watched her as she left.

'When she passed me, that feeling became clearer. It felt like some kind of great energy was contained within her. But now that i think about it, everyone gives off a tiny bit of this feeling, but hers is a lot more pronounced. That's why she felt different.'

Genji walked downstairs, put on his shoes and walked outside of the school gates. By this time, he had come to a conclusion.

'I'll follow her to see if my intuition is right.'

Genji walked into a nearby cluster of trees, dropped his backpack and bended the light around him, turning invisible. This was a basic level psionic skill that he had figured out during his time in the womb.

It was incredibly useful for moments like this.

Now that he was invisible, Genji flew up into the sky and landed on a street light overlooking the school yard.

'Now I just wait.'

Time passed slowly as Genji sat there, waiting for Utahime to leave.

One...

Two...

Three hours passed.

Utahime still had not left. It had gotten dark and the street lights were on.

Everyone had left the school. But again, Utahime was no where to be found.

'I have an idea, but I'll need to cancel my invisibility to do it. Tch.'

Genji floated down from the street light and landed in the middle of the yard. With a thought, he disabled his invisibility and used another form of Telepathy.

Genji closed his eyes and listened closely, zeroing in on the thoughts of everyone or everything still located in the school. With this, if anyone was still inside, they would be revealed to him.

It didn't take long for him to find his target, but something was strange. She wasn't the only one.

'This is it! The cursed spirit that I've been looking for! Hm?! It has a hostage?!'

'KILLLLLLL!!! KILLLLLLLLL!! DELICIOUSSSSSSS!'

'Help me! Someone! Please!'

One set of thoughts obviously belonged to Utahime, one to something that lacked coherence and the other one, the hostage Utahime mentioned. For some reason, the hostage sounded familiar.

'What is going on?'

BOOM! BOOM!

Genji kept his mind locked onto their thoughts as he reinforced his body with psychic energy, running through walls and crashing through floors to quickly locate them.

Several seconds passed by before Genji made it to what seemed the basement.

BOOM!

'They should be here!"

As Genji crashed through the ceiling, he ran out of the smoke and quickly scanned his surroundings.

Immediately, he saw the scene of a standoff before him.

Utahime was on one corner of the room while the cursed spirit - a grotesque green blob with multiple eyes and arms stood on the other, holding a struggling boy within his arms.

When Genji caught sight of the boy, his eyes widened.

"Kaito?"

This one of the original Genji's friends. Seeing him in this situation was completely unexpected.

"Fujiwara! Leave this place as fast as you can! It's dangerous!"

Genji didn't listen.

His eyes were completely focused on the creature in front of him.

"Fujiwara! I said run! Wait...you can see it can't you?"

Utahime's voice started to sound less exasperated when she realized that Genji could see the cursed spirit. Furthermore, from the look on his face, he didn't seem to be scared.

He looked like he was merely surprised.

'As much as I would like to investigate more, I need to handle this situation imm-'

"SCRRZZZZZZ!"

The cursed spirit screamed as the arms holding the boy hostage were suddenly ripped off by an invisible force.

With the flick of a finger, Kaito was drawn to Utahime's side with Telekinesis.

"Miss Utahime, please take care of him."

Genji was feeling a little bit excited inside. This was the first time he was getting to use his newfound powers in a battle. To think, just a little while ago, he was a useless cripple.

The spirit healed and immediately rushed toward him in a frenzy, screaming erratically.

Genji raised his hand with his palm facing forward towards the cursed spirit.

"Now, be destroyed."

BOOM!!
