Chapter 200 - Chat

I nodded "That tracks. In your case" I pointed at Hephaestus "because this is easily the greatest thing I have ever made. And in your case" I pointed at Freya this time "because the cursed technique I used is paradoxical in nature, it had to be to do what I wanted. Cursed energy is great about touching concepts in case it wasn't abundantly obvious by now." I said with a proud grin.

"Who did you even make these for anyways? You don't use a sword or dagger right?" Hephaestus asked curiously.

"I don't use them. I made these for Bell actually. His previous weapons were starting to fall behind his power and I as the great guy I am figured I'd give him a hell of an upgrade. As a bonus so long as he uses the blades properly he is technically impossible to kill. Not immortal or invulnerable but like if he was fated to die because of an injury he received then he can rewrite that fate so he survives. Really have to pat myself on the back this time, damn good idea on my part. Well unless fate itself collapses from this but really what are the chances?" I say grinning widely.

"Can that happen!?" Hestia exclaimed in horror.

"I mean maybe if you could repeatedly change it but it shouldn't be like this. The way these blades work to change fate is by siphoning the luck of those they kill. In case you need me to spell it out if they were dying they obviously aren't going to have a lot of the stuff to siphon to begin with. In other words the actually fate changing effect of the blades can't be used very often, maybe once every month or two. Hard to say without knowing Bell's average kill count." I explain casually.

"You are WAY too calm about having made something that borders on divine craftsmanship." Hephaestus said with a sigh.

"I never claimed to be the most mentally well adjusted of personages." I said with a shrug.

"I can't help but feel conflicted about this. On one hand theres something deeply attractive about this but on the other hand this changes everything. Before your creations could be passed off as merely creative or impressive without being outside normal limits. This though? This isn't something a mortal should be capable of. That cursed energy of yours was a curiosity before but this elevates it to a dangerous level." Freya says seriously.-

"Magic has just as much utility, the trick is figuring out how to do it. Really the main problem here is who is using it. Hell Haruhime can literally cause people to level up temporarily. A magic that not only touches the soul but even divine power. Don't even get me started on that skill of Bell's." I said rolling my eyes.

"He does have a point. There are quite a few magics that touch on concepts that normally only a god would have access to. The fact he can actively touch on many in theory is still a concern but at least not too far beyond explanation. The real issue is the repercussions this fact will have if it gets out. Right now he is a highly desired craftsman because of his useful creations and high quality weapons and armor but this would put him at the level of someone like Aermid that is one of a kind in the whole world and thus extreme valuable. That value might be enough to tempt others into trying to steal him for themselves or in certain cases remove the threat he represents." Hephaestus said rubbing her forehead as a headache came on.-

"Oooh test subjects, can never have enough of those." I say genuinely eager at the idea of more assassination attempts.

"What does that mean?" Hestia asked with a look that said she had an idea and wasn't happy about it.

"So I maybe used the last would be assassin who came after me as a test subject for some of my less than savory ideas. To be fair though he was fucked the moment he chose to try and kill me, I just got some extra value out of him before that." I said sheepishly.

"What sort of ideas exactly?" Freya asked curiously.

"In this case extra limbs, water breathing via lung modification and sensory modification. I also tested if I could enhance his musculoskeletal structure to create a superior adventurer. Honestly need more testing with that one but it seems potentially promising." I said casually.

"How could you!?" Hestia demanded in horror.

"If you mean why don't I feel bad for doing it that's simply because I don't see why I should. He was an enemy slated for death, free game as far as I'm concerned. I don't go around experimenting on just anyone, I have standards." I said defensively.

"But how can you even stomach causing such suffering, even to an enemy?" she asked confused and conflicted.

"The same way I can make something like these blades, cursed energy. I've said it many times but the energy is made from the darker more raw parts of the soul. Fear, pain, greed, lust all the negative aspects of the soul give rise to cursed energy. As I grow more and more attuned to the energy I become less and less bound by morals and ethics." I said honestly.

"That ... doesn't sound healthy." Hephaestus said with a concerned look.

"I'm fine don't worry about it." I say reassuringly.

"I don't see any problems with treating enemies like that. If anything I think it should be encouraged. Might keep Evilus in line a little longer." Freya said smiling at me.

"I still don't like it. It feels wrong." Hestia said firmly.

I shrugged "Then I just won't do it again. A bit of a waste but whatever." I said dismissively.

I meant it too as while I would prefer to get some usage out of my enemies before killing them it wouldn't bother me to just kill them outright instead. I wasn't a cursed spirit who couldn't help themselves, at least not yet. Hell I may never get to that point at all as there was no way to know how my evolution over time will turn out.
