Chapter 21 - Love’s Embrace

In the shadows of the abandoned warehouse — a place no one would expect life to stir — a voice echoed, dripping with arrogance, as if he held absolute power over her.

"You came here to kill me, didn't you, daughter?" the man sneered. "This detective is a friend of mine — I've had eyes on you both since the night you called him about that badge. He told me everything, without ever knowing what he was telling. I murdered your parents for their property, and now I'll murder you. Then the entire estate will be mine."

Zara's eyes trembled, tears welling up. "Today… I finally understand. No one is always there for you. One day, everyone abandons you. And you're just like the rest, aren't you, Uncle?" Her voice broke into sobs.

A deafening shot rang out —

— but before it could claim her, someone leapt in front of her. Armaan. The man who had promised to protect her.

"He!" voices cried out in shock. She dashed toward him, her heart pounding.

"Today, Champion, you showed your strength. Another devil is gone." His voice was fading, but his eyes held hers. "I won't be yours in this world… but I'll be yours in the next. I've already called the police and told them everything. Champion… I love you."

"Why did you do it?" she asked, tears streaming down her face.

"Champion… don't cry," he pleaded.

"Son!" her uncle cried, but his tone was desperate now.

"Don't you dare call me son," Armaan roared, his fury filling the air like fire. "You always told me her whole family died in a car accident — but you never told me you were the murderer. She never wanted revenge; all she wanted was a family again. I heard her talking to that locket her mother gave her, saying she'd find them soon. And you — you sent those killers after her, the day she nearly stepped in front of my car."

Sirens wailed in the distance. The police stormed in, arresting them both. The uncle was taken away in chains. And the man who had shielded her… slipped away forever.
