Guild receptionist-"Are you all ready to receive your new ranks? Who wants to go first?"
Julius-"Can I go first?"
Guild receptionist-"Yes you-"
The guild receptionist looks questioningly at the glowing dot in front of him.
Guild receptionist(in his head)-"This glowing dot is talking"
Guild receptionist-"Um-"
Voice-"You've forgotten something"
Julius(in his head)-"What- oh yeah being a sentient atom isn't normal"
Julius-"My name is Julius, I'm a fairy who joined the guild not too long ago"
Guild receptionist-"I see..."
Guild receptionist(in his head)-"He seems smaller than any fairy I've seen before. And he glows brightly for some reason. Well I've seen stranger people come in before"
Guild receptionist-"Very well, so what rank are you?"
Julius-"I'm currently E rank, but trust me I've gotten way stronger since then"
Guild receptionist-"Well send your magic power into the crystal to begin"
Julius-"So that crystal will tell us our ranks?"
Guild receptionist-"It tells us how high your magic output is, which is very important for determining your rank"
Julius-"When I first received my rank they just asked me for my level, they didn't have me use this magic crystal"
Guild receptionist-"Well these crystals aren't too easy to make, so some guild offices don't have them. While you can sign up at those offices and can also receive quests you can't increase your rank there. Also you can only be given either E or D rank without a crystal"
Julius-"Alright, so how do I do this? Should I cast a spell on it"
Guild receptionist-"No, simply place your hand on it"
Julius-"Okay"
Julius floats closer.
Julius(in his head)-"...what do I do, I don't have hands"
Voice-"Just fly into the crystal to make physical contact"
Julius(in his head)-"Alright"
Julius slowly floats into the crystal. He gets close enough to see the atomic structure making up the crystal.
Julius(in his head)-"This crystal has a lot of that particle that's inside of Adam's sword. Though this one seems to have a much higher concentration of it"
Voice-"Mana crystals like this one are one of the main components used in the alloy that make's up magical items like Adam's sword. The crystal isn't entirely made out of that magic particle because it wouldn't have enough structural integrity to stay together"
Julius(in his head)-"So these crystals are like like photonic matter a physical structure made out of a normally non physical material. Instead of being made of photons, it's made mostly out of magic"
Julius then makes contact with the crystal.
Julius-"What now?"
Guild receptionist-"The crystal will register your maximum power output. It factors in both your raw mana and the potency of your skills. So it's not great for determining the rank of support type adventurers"
The crystal begins to glow and the box underneath it dispenses a piece of paper. The guild receptionist picks up the paper and reads it.
Guild receptionist(shocked)-"Hold on- didn't you say you were E rank before"
Julius-"Well that was a little while-"
Guild receptionist-"This says your power output is lower A rank and not that far behind upper A rank"
Adam-"That's about where we expected it to be"
Elise-"Yeah, he has a lot of power"
Guild receptionist-"It says here that your overall mana count is B rank, but your skills are able to administer devastating power far greater than normal. It also says you have an evolved skill"
Julius-"Most of us received evolved skills from Marigold"
Marigold-"That's me"
Guild receptionist-"Incredible, the ability to evolve other people's skills is quite rare"
Marigold-"Thank you"
Guild receptionist-"Well Mr. Julius, or do you have a family name?"
Julius-"My last name is Democritus"
Guild receptionist-"Ah that's not written here so I'll correct that. Well Mr. Democritus you have the power necessary to be lower A rank. However, before receiving a rank that high I'll need you conduct some tests for your skill versatility"
Julius-"Alright"
Julius floats away from the crystal.
Guild receptionist-"Alright who is next?"
Elise-"I'll go next"
Guild receptionist-"Alright ma'am please place your hand on the crystal"
Elise walks over and places her hand on the crystal. The crystal glows and dispenses another piece of paper.
Guild receptionist-"Alright, it says here your power outpoint is B rank"
Elise-"Nice, up from C rank"
Guild receptionist-"Congratulations, I'll fill out your rank up information after everyone is done"
Adam-"I'm next, I'll also be ranking up"
Guild receptionist-"Very well sir, place your hand on the crystal"
Adam places his hand on the crystal and once again it glows dispensing another piece of paper.
Guild receptionist-"It seems you've also gone up to B rank"
Adam-"I'm above Elise though right?"
Guild receptionist-"According to this paper you're-"
Joe-"Please don't answer that. It will make one of them upset"
Adam-"I'm not a child"
Joe-"You just made it into a competition"
Elise-"Yeah Adam, how can you be so childish?"
The group looks at Elise with a look of sarcastic condescendence.
Elise-"What?"
Guild receptionsist-"Okay well um, who is next?"
Joe-"Me"
Guild receptionist-"Well it's the same as before"
Joe places his hand on the crystal and a piece of paper is dispensed.
Guild receptionist-"You've gone from D rank to C rank"
Joe-"Nice! I'm finally not just D rank anymore"
Guild receptionist-"Who is next? How about you young lady?"
Marigold-"I'm actually not an adventurer yet. But I want to become one"
Guild receptionist-"Well place your hand on the crystal so I can get your paperwork started"
Marigold goes over to the crystal, it's too high for her to reach.
Guild receptionist-"Oh, I'm so sorry ma'am. We have stairs"
The guild receptionist wheels over some small stairs used for smaller species. Marigold walks up the stairs and places her hand on the crystal. The crystal glows and dispenses another piece of paper.
Guild receptionist-"It seems you are a C rank ma'am, but your fairly is close to B rank"
Marigold-"Nice"
Guild receptionist-"And it says here that you have holy magic as well. That's incredibly rare. I'm assuming your holy skill lets you evolve other people's skills"
Marigold-"That's correct"
Guild receptionist-"Well that sounds like some excellent support power. I can see why the rest of your group was able to rank up so quickly. So all that's left is you"
Damion-"I'm not getting a rank up"
Guild receptionist-"Are you sure?"
Damion-"Yes"
Guild receptionist-"Very well. I'll get everybody's paperwork filled out. And you'll all receive your new ranks. But for Julius I'll have to examine his versatility as well for lower A rank"
The group exits the room to head back to the main desk. The receptionist begins filling out the documents including Marigold's registration. The receptionist and Julius then go off to grant him his rank.
Adam-"Well it's obvious Julius has the versatility that's required"
Joe-"Yeah so, we should hopefully be able to go to the Kaiju Archipelego after this"
The guild receptionist and Julius come back.
Guild receptionist-"Well Julius here has the most versatile skill set I've ever seen with many different types of attack skills and support skills, so he easily achieves his lower A rank"
Marigold-"That's wonderful"
Guild receptionist-"So I've gone and updated all of your guild registration and I've gotten Marigold here all signed up"
Julius-"I'm glad we got that all sorted out, being given as high of a rank as A feels pretty nice"
Guild receptionist-"Well now that everything is finished, I can check what quests we have available"
Elise-"Actually we were planning on something else"
Marigold-"We want to go to the Kaiju Archipelago"
Guild receptionist-"Oh really. Hmm, you do have an A rank in your party, but two of you are only C ranks. I can get you the proper registration but only for the outer islands not the inner islands"
Joe-"That's perfectly fine for us"
Guild receptionist-"Here"
The old dwarf man grabs out some papers from the bottom drawer of his desk.
Guild receptionist-"I'll need the signature of each party member to proceed"
Everyone walks over to write their names down. The paper is set down on the ground for Marigold to sign and Julius levitates a pencil with his gravity skill to sign it.
Guild receptionist-"Alright then, there is a portal in this town down the street. It's a small one so it can't take you all the way to the Kaiju Archipelago but you can take it to the primary guild headquarters. There you can take a larger portal that will take you to the Kaiju Archipelago"
Julius-"Thank you, we appreciate all of your help"
The group walks out of the guild office and towards the town portal.
Julius-"I'm surprised this small town has a portal, I thought it was just larger kingdoms"
Adam-"Some small towns have them if they are far away from any large kingdoms. Since both the town we met in and the elf village were close to the Illumis kingdom, they didn't have portals. The smaller portals, like the one in this town, can only take you to the guild headquarters"
Julius-"Well, it seems like we're about to head on the next step of our journey"
Elise-"Just think of all the giant monsters on those islands. I can't wait"
Adam-"Just make sure you're careful, you better not go off on your own"
Elise-"I know that"
Joe-"I swear I won't be useless either. Once we leave those islands, I'll finally be a powerful adventurer"
Marigold-"I'll become stronger. Strong enough to stop every evil person like Lucious"
Damion-"Maybe once I'm stronger, people will stop not liking me for some reason"
Julius-"Alright everyone, let's head out"
The group steps through the portal.
