Chapter 43 - Answering the Call

Within a brightly lit room countering the darkness of the night, heavy breaths could be heard. Alphys lay back on her chair gazing up into the ceiling as she was gasping for her energy to reach her once more. Alphys slowly sat up straight in her chair and now gazed forwards, swivelling her head around the room. There were things thrown all about, but some things that you wouldn't expect. Exercise equipment all over the floors and the tables. Alphys simply let out a deep exhale after some time.

"Even after all that training Undyne gave me I can hardly do this stuff by myself." She would seem somewhat disappointed in herself. "I could never hope to be on the same level as Undyne, I'm hardly even putting myself in shape.

Alphys slowly raised herself up from her chair with a displeased look staying on her face whilst she paced around the room. The silence around was deafening allowing her to be left with nothing else but her very own thoughts. Some time passed in her own self doubts. She paced faster as closed her eyes fast shut as anxiety started to come over her simply muttering to herself.

"I can't be strong, I'm not even that good at magic still. How am I gonna help? I… I was never able to, not before, not now. I'll just be watching from the back again."

Something deep within Alphys had rejected those words coming from her own mouth. Many years ago she may have wholeheartedly gone along with them and looked at herself with nothing but pity, but she had grown. Alphys remembered the words of her beloved Undyne echoing within her head.

"Alphys, I'll be going for a while. I can't stick with you this whole time, I wanna see something while we have time, also I want to see what you'll do by yourself. I'll leave you with the training I'd recommend you do, but…" Undyne had paused in her speech. "I know you're a lot better at working your nerdy brain! So pump that up to the max and do something awesome that only you could. Oh I would love it if you made something from one of those anime with the giant robots, and then I would fight it! Nyahahah!" That's all Alphys remembered. In the mind of Alphys she had turned that into something more inspiring than it actually was.

Alphys clenched her fist and suddenly put on a strong smirk. The pacing around the room stopped as silence returned, but it was not unnerving. "Right, like Undyne said I've got my own strength. This big brain of mine! Gaster and Sans aren't here to help, but I think I've got this myself."

After Alphys gave herself a bit of a self-hyping up she was now left with a question. What should she actually do? She pondered several gadgets and laid them all out in their mind. Something within her thoughts caused her to pause.

The multiverse observer. She recalled the experience she had when she first used it. Those last people she had seen were definitely peculiar beings. She was curious, curious if she could see them again. Alphys recalled they say she found things out for herself, but at this time Alphys would hope they could at least give her some guidance.

"Giant mech here I comeee."

Alphys giggled to herself with her hands rubbing together as if trying to spark up a flame. Her sudden drive felt almost palpable in intensity. Sitting back down in her chair, a headset placed over her and covering her eyes as it whirred to life. She began adjusting the frequency of it to attune it to a specific place. Alphys had scribbled down the location of this realm of ideas and recalled it in her brain. When she entered it something felt different this time.

 ======================================

The feeling of the ground beneath her feet was experienced, yet it was strange. It was as if she was standing on air. She knew she was grounded and despite this there was nothing to be felt, as if standing on nothing. The scientist was now observing the place of ideas, or to be more accurate. Alphys is now within the void of ideas herself. Her hand touched her face no longer feeling the headset there.

"H-huh??" Alphys suddenly shouted with utter confusion. Someone would answer that shout.

Suddenly before Alphys appeared a woman who looked down at her with a pleasantly formal smile. She had the outfit of a door man perfectly fit onto her, although instead of being mostly red it has a scheme of black and white with about an equal amount of each other. She seemed to be rather tall, about the height of Undyne. Long flowing hair that went down to the bottom of their torso with alternating white and black color as well, this seemed to be the theme of this whole place. The woman bent down to Alphys and gave her a hand.

"Ah Dr. Alphys 0-X, I didn't expect you to come back so soon. We have been expecting your return though of course. Please tell me the reason for your visit, ah the name is Eclipse by the way." She spoke with a pleasant tone, it really seemed to match the outfit of professionalism.

Alphys looked to be in a daze for a moment before simply shaking their hand. With everything that's been happening Alphys should not doubt any possibility no matter how crazy. "Eclipse I have come because of danger to appear in my world by a man I don't even know. No way of knowing how much of a threat he is or… well anything at all. Since this is the place of ideas, I thought I'd come here for some guidance." Alphys paused as something else registered. "What's with the weird serial number at the end of my name?"

Equinox just let out a slight "ah" then stood up straight and met the gaze of Alphys continuously. "Well, there's a bunch of Alphys across the vast worlds. It became most ideal for us to make a system to sort them all. 0 is your universe number, 0 for the original. X is your timeline, you are the 10th Alphys of your universe. Now for your other inquiry, we may be able to do something to help. I only warn you that this will not be easy at all." She lets out a reserved laughter at the end of her words trying to alleviate any tension her last words may have given. Equinox started to walk off signaling Alphys to follow.

Alphys quickly registered that within her mind and wordlessly followed the woman. She could only wonder curiously about what exactly the girl had been alluding to when she spoke of difficulties that would befall her. Whatever it was, she would gladly face them.
