Chapter 15 - Dawn's Memories(5)

"Have you put him in cryo sleep?",the voice asked authoritatively, looking at the large black box, which was a cryo chamber .

"Yes,sir",the scientist answered answered, looking nervously at the man with blue glowing eyes.

The man then moved to the console beside the large black cryo chamber, his blue glowing eyes scanning the screen with a cold, calculating gaze. The soft hum of the machines filled the sterile laboratory, the frost-covered glass of the chamber obscuring the figure inside.

He pressed a few keys on the console, reviewing the data , 'Vitals stable. Cryo systems engaged. Neural activity… low, but not gone and there was recently activity very close to high level. But it was neutralized using drugs.'

His expression hardened looking at the data.

"Good," he muttered after a few minutes.

"Make sure he stays like this. If he wakes up too soon, your group will have a problem."

The man said, warning the scientist.

The scientist in the white lab coat swallowed nervously. He knew exactly what kind of "problem" that would be.

After checking everything he wanted and warning the scientist to not let any accidents happen, he left.

Watching the man leave the scientist, breathed a sigh of relief.

Turning back to the black cryo chamber, staring at the frost-covered glass.

For a moment, he hesitated. The air in the lab felt heavier now that the man with the glowing blue eyes was gone. That man… he wasn't just a superior. He was something else. Something terrifying.

The scientist exhaled slowly, gathering his nerves. He checked the console again—everything was stable. But still, a sense of unease lingered in his mind.

His eyes flickered to the screen displaying neural activity. It has risen higher than the low level.

'Was the subject dreaming?',the scientist thought to himself.

He leaned in closer, pressing a few keys to run a deeper scan.

And then—a spike.

The readings surged for a fraction of a second before settling back down. The scientist's breath caught in his throat. He took a step back, one hand gripping the console and other near his heart.

His eyes dilated as he watched the spike displayed on the graph.

'Had it been a glitch? Did the machine malfunction? Or… is he waking up again?'

The scientist's mind raced, but he forced himself to stay calm.

'No, these are just new prototype cryo chambers…', he reassured himself. 'It could be an error...or just a minor miscalculation in the readings.'

But deep down, unease settled in his gut, he has to recheck it as his life depends on it.

If it wasn't an error—if the subject inside was beginning to wake up—then he, the one responsible for keeping the test subject inactive, would be held accountable. And he knew what that meant.

Swallowing hard, he quickly reset the graph, his fingers trembling slightly over the console. A simple recalibration. Just to be sure.

He ran a system diagnostic, watching intently as the screen refreshed, scanning for any abnormalities. The lab remained eerily quiet, save for the faint hum of machinery.

"Come on… just be an error." He prayed in his heart, his pulse quickening as the system recalibrated.

The screen flickered. Lines of data streamed down, processing, analyzing—searching for inconsistencies. The scientist held his breath, waiting for the confirmation that everything was fine.

BEEP.

The results appeared.

[ Errors Detected,Please Reset The Console.]

He exhaled sharply, relief washing over him. Just a false alarm.

The subject remained in cryo-sleep. The neural spike must have been nothing more than a random fluctuation.

Still, he hesitated. Something about this didn't sit right. But questioning things too much could put him in danger.

With a final glance at the frozen figure inside the black chamber, he muttered under his breath, "Let's hope you don't wake up—for both our sakes."

Then, turning away, he walked out of the lab, unaware of the faintest twitch of movement beneath the frost-covered glass.

In the bright space inside Jason's mind, the entity , the small ball of light, has reappeared again.

Before checking anything, it relayed an error message through the machine monitoring Jason.

Before leaving it had already made sure that the monitoring data would only show normal level brain and body activity.

A certain amount of "brain power" was needed to maintain this , as the monitoring device software was being randomly updated as it is still a prototype.

The entity's control over this function had slipped when it "died".

To make sure nothing appears out of the palace the entity could only show a common error it had found in the machine logs and hope that they don't look into it more.

It was a gamble but this is all the entity could do at this moment.

This slipup could result in it being discovered and bring an end to the already dire escape plan.

So it waited.

Minutes stretched endlessly as the entity listened and felt—its awareness stretching through every sensory organ available , it could feel every vibration and temperature through the skin.

Seeing nothing happening after a few tense minutes it finally let down its guard and started analyzing its current situation.

The entity realized it had been respawned back in the bright space, which could be Jason's Soul or something similar.

At that last moment, the entity had made its choice.

It destroyed all the data that formed it, erasing every trace of its existence, it was ready to destroy itself rather than compromise Jason.

But looks like there were still a lot of things that it didn't know about itself .

The relationship between it and Jason is more than just that of a digital entity and a human coexisting together in the same vessel or body .

This bright space was where Jason's memories existed before it came into existence , was this his soul?

Before this it had never thought of this place as anything special, but now after its eradication it had been recreated here.

{A respawn point},the entity mused, just like the supernatural power of some of the fictional characters in Jason's memories.

The entity had gained the ability to be respawned.

Although not sure if this ability had a cool down, the entity had no intention of testing its limits by intentionally dying.
