Chapter Four: You Call This New Recruit Training?
The game that Daimei played seemed to be doing quite well.
At least in games like CrossFire and CS, her performance in ranked matches looked impressive.
But when fully modernized tanks, airplanes, and cannons appeared right in front of her eyes,
Daimei felt weak in the legs, experiencing a sense of fear as if she were on a real battlefield for the first time.
She stood outside the door for quite a while before taking a deep breath.
"I'm going to conquer this game, I will complete it!"
Saying that Daimei encouraged herself and headed towards another training ground, holding a gun.
As she entered, she saw three people standing together, talking about something.
Upon seeing someone enter the door, two of them stepped aside, making way for the elderly man with his arms crossed.
None of the NPC characters had fixed identifiers above their heads, only revealing their names for a second when looked at.
The old man's name was Price, fully armed with a gas mask, scrutinizing from top to bottom:
"What kind of person names themselves 'Soap'?"
"Damn, how did 141 let a rookie like you in?"
Price's tone was very disdainful, Daimei pursed her lips: "Wow, coming in and showing off right away."
With that, Price waved his hand: "Don't just stand there, get up there, we're starting close-quarters combat training now, let's see what you're made of."
Following Price's gesture, Daimei didn't notice the large enclosed area surrounded by wooden boards in front of her.
There were surveillance cameras set up everywhere in the area, with many targets placed.
Daimei knew CQB was an abbreviation for close-quarters battle, a highly professional military training.
Starting a game with this kind of gameplay for a newcomer?
With anticipation, Daimei was excited as she followed the instructions to climb up the stairs from one side of the field.
On the platform, there was an MP5 silenced submachine gun, next to it were four flashbang grenades.
These were familiar to Daimei; she replaced the MP5 with her G36 and hung the flashbang grenades on her body. Daimei peeked down from the platform.
The platform was six meters high, and there was only one rope available for rappelling.
At this point, Price's voice came from afar through the intercom:
"Slide down the rope, move quickly inside the field according to the target indicators on the ground, and take down all the targets."
"Ready! Go!"
Before Daimei could react, Price shouted and started the timer.
Seeing the timer on one side of the field ticking, Daimei was stunned on the spot.
Six meters! Rappelling!
She had never done anything like this!
Seeing this, the viewers laughed, and the barrage exploded.
"She's hesitating! Haha, the old lady is hesitating and doesn't dare to jump!"
"Tsk, don't blame her, even I would hesitate; six meters, it's so high, falling would be a blast."
"By the way, isn't this just part of the recruits' training process? Which game starts players off like this?"
"I bet the old lady already regrets it; she entered with full real sense, that falling would hurt."
"Hurry up! I can't wait to see her first real mission."
...
As the viewers chatted, Daimei cursed inwardly.
What kind of damn game was this, making a girl do rappelling? It's terrifying!
But thinking about her big mouth, saying what she would do if she failed, like wearing a swimsuit as punishment.
Daimei hesitated for a long time before reluctantly attempting to grab the rope and slide down bit by bit.
By this time, more than three minutes had passed.
Upon landing, Daimei felt a slight sense of satisfaction for herself.
But at this moment, Price on the other end started scolding:
"Run! Move like it's indoor combat, shoot the targets!"
With curses ringing in her ears, Daimei was startled, she obediently picked up the submachine gun and aimed at the targets inside.
Rat-a-tat.
A few gunshots and the targets were knocked down. Daimei started running, holding the gun and continued as instructed.
Down the stairs, around the corner, Price ordered to engage the enemy at nine o'clock and throw flashbangs.
Upon hearing this, Daimei clumsily put down the gun, took out a flashbang, pulled the pin, and threw it in.
Then, before the explosion, Daimei foolishly walked in.
She thought the flashbangs here were like in CrossFire, where they explode as soon as they're thrown, at most causing temporary blindness.
Boom!
As a result, there was a loud explosion, and the flashbang emitted a strong white light, accompanied by a high-frequency noise in her ears.
Daimei was hit immediately, kneeling on the ground and covering her ears.
Price saw this and started scolding:
"Remember! Flashbangs have a three-second delay before they explode! Get up and continue moving!"
Daimei couldn't care less about that now; her ears were ringing, and her head was spinning from the shock.
Meanwhile, the viewers watching the live stream were in awe.
"D*mn... are flashbangs this realistic?"
"Eating a full flashbang, and it even comes with a buzzing sound?"
"Real flashbangs are almost like this, bright flash with noise, even if you don't get hit directly, you'll be dazed."
"Wow, this is amazing, this game is something."
"Look, her heart rate is 180, she's probably scared to death, haha."
After a while, the ringing in Daimei's ears finally stopped, and she got up, swaying her head:
"I surrender, what kind of damn game is this, making me do this!? It's outrageous!"
Cursing and grumbling, Daimei picked up the gun again and knocked down the indoor targets with half her body exposed.
Then, as she turned another corner, Price ordered her to assault with flashbangs again.
This time, with some experience, Daimei removed the pin and counted two seconds before throwing it.
Then, before the last target was knocked down, Daimei gritted her teeth and ran to the finish line.
[Ding! Fifteen minutes and 48 seconds!]
"Unqualified performance! Do it again! No one from 141 has ever had such a poor record as you!"
Price was displeased with the time, spraying saliva as he held the microphone: "Get up there and do it again, or you're out!"
"Remember, 141's best record is 19 seconds, achieved by the vice-captain Gates."
"19 seconds! Look at you! The enemies will laugh at you for taking fifteen minutes!"
This old man had a terrible temper, scolding Daimei relentlessly.
But Daimei had no choice; if she couldn't complete the training, she wouldn't even qualify for her first real mission.
After biting her teeth and taking a few deep breaths, Daimei climbed up the platform again.
Along the way, she also scolded the developers, who the hell made this game?
Isn't this just cheating!?
...
Later on, despite the curses, this game itself was really impressive.
After running several times, Daimei's performance improved by leaps and bounds, finally reaching the passing line of one minute on her twelfth attempt
