Chapter 19 - Slow Days

Tanna woke up early, "Good morning Naruto."

Naruto was at the kitchen stove, "You are awake already."

Tanna, "You know, I wake up early during the mission days."

Naruto, "I was hoping to make you breakfast before you wake up and I leave."

Tanna, "You are sweet. Sasuke?"

Naruto, "Kakashi - Sensei took him before we woke up. It is why I came here honestly."

Tanna chuckled, "Sounds like Kakashi's own way to make us spend time together before you leave."

Naruto huffed, "That old man. Anyway, let's eat before Pervy sage shows up."

Tanna smiled setting the table up and the two enjoyed a mostly quiet breakfast before Naruto grabbed his travel kit and hugged her goodbye. Tanna waved him farewell from the Uzumaki home as Jiraiya appeared to whisk Naruto away. The blond cursed at being carried off like a sack of rice making the older sibling snicker in amusement. She was going to miss him very terribly, but as he grew and became a Jounin she would have to get used to the long absences and pray he returned home safely. Anko woke up after Tanna entered the house and kissed her forehead as a greeting. Tanna kissed her cheek in return preparing breakfast for her telling her about Naruto finally leaving with Jiraiya and how much she was going to miss him. Anko nodded saying she would be missing the chaos Naruto usually brought with him making Tanna laugh. Anko snickered as well telling her about some of the head aches team seven created for Ibiki.

Anko, "Are you going to the hospital today?"

Tanna, "After classes, yes. Shizune wishes to study me and make sure nothing is wrong."

Anko nodded, "I am sure everything will be fine. Shizune is a great medic, trained by Lady Tsunade herself."

Tanna, "I do not feel any illness or whatsoever so yes, I believe so too. Besides, I am also curious about what this will mean for the future, for people like me."

Anko reached for her hand, "Normally, shinobi tend to ignore people afflicted by your status. It does not matter what they achieve, people without chakra are considered half dead. You though, are alive and here with me."

Tanna squeezed her palm, "Of course I am here, Anko. Do not fret I do not plan to go out of the picture that easily. When I start loving someone I am like glitter, sticking to my loved ones like an annoying splash of bright colour."

Anko laughed, "That is one way to describe you. Even Danzo has not bothered trying to take you into his fold because he thinks you will croak soon."

Tanna grinned, "I rather annoy him to death, instead of croaking that easily. Asking him for money is always hilarious."

Anko shook her head trying not to burst out laughing, "I believe he thinks you are a hopeless case that the Sandaime took pity on."

Tanna, "I am pretty sure he is happy to dump me and the headaches I bring on the new Godaime. Speaking of she is supposed to give the opening lecture at the Academy for the new students in a week."

Anko, "It's already that time of the year, huh?"

Tanna, "Time flies fast."

Anko, "Speaking of time, I am gonna be late if I don't go now. Thank you for the breakfast, love. See you later."

Tanna went through her daily routine humming to the tune played in the radio before heading out to the Academy. It was still very early and people were still waking up and she enjoyed the quiet morning before entering the Academy. Tanna greeted her fellow teachers and started going over the lesson plans, this time she had been planning on introducing the idea of class skit for the new students. It would be a fun way to get the nervous ones to relax by doing a small skit before class started. Honestly, she was just trying to avoid thinking her blond sunshine brother will not be here with her for a few years which would make it really quiet for a while. Mikoto, Himeko and Yoshino greeted her as they entered and took their places around the staff room. They were planning on adding new teachers to the Academy especially with the construction of new buildings to add more rooms.

Three months later:

Hiruzen, "Good morning, Tanna - Sensei."

Konohamaru, "Good morning, Sensei."

Tanna, "Advisor Hiruzen and Konohamaru, good morning. You look well. I believe your friends are already inside Konohamaru. Why don't you go meet them before class starts?"

Konohamaru beamed, "Yes Sensei, see you later, grandfather."

Hiruzen, "Run along."

Tanna, "Was there something you wish to talk about?"

Hiruzen, "It is nothing of alarm I assure you, Tanna - Sensei."

Tanna, "That just makes me more worried."

Hiruzen chucked, "No truly, it is something positive. Do you remember the dancers who were picked to head to the Daimyo's court?"

Tanna steeled herself, "What happened?"

Hiruzen eyed her but answered, "Well, one of the young Prince's took a fancy to one of the dancers and wishes to make him part of his harem."

Tanna felt her eye twitch, "Is this the same guy my kunoichi friends complain about?"

Hiruzen, "Afraid so. Now, I understand that aside from the clans, you the teachers also hold yourselves responsible for student's future. Especially the civilian students, so I felt it prudent to inform you."

Tanna, "My answer is no."

Hiruzen, "Tanna - Sensei, at least... "

Tanna raised her hand, "Come now, old man. If you wanted a unanimous decision, you would not have approached me. You know my stance and attitude against harems."

Hiruzen smiled, "Yes, yes, I do. I shall inform the court official, we have to reject the offer and that our children are not for sale."

Tanna, "You knew, I would reject this, the moment I learned who it was."

Mikoto spoke up, "We rejected it too. It had to be a unanimous rejection however."

Himeko gently chimed, "You know, us kunoichi hold grudges against those who slight us, Advisor Hiruzen. We are also human at the end of the day."

Tanna watched the older man leave, "I was not expecting him to approach us. I thought the Clan leaders would deal with these things."

Yoshino smiled, "Normally yes, the clan Head would but there are cases where they cannot interfere."

Mikoto, "For example when a student declares themselves independent after passing the Academy requirements. Like what happened today. Young Tetsuya wished to go independent from the Uchiha clan so we granted him his wish under one condition of course."

Tanna, "What condition is that?"

Mikoto smiled, "If he ever needs help, he must use our names as his direct Guardians so we can help him. We may not be officially his Guardians but if he claims us such we can help him."

Tanna's eyes twinkled, "That is clever. We can also get any unwanted idiots to back off."

Himeko, "Plus, knowing how protective you are of students, we kind of guessed your first move will be to protect them think later."

Tanna, "Obviously!"

Yoshino, "It does make me wonder though exactly how many he has taken as a concubine and yet not a single child with any of them."

Tanna, "I have a theory. A crazy one."

Mikoto looked at her encouragingly and Tanna launched into an explanation about some rumors she read about in Naruto's letters. Some of his clones had come across a few unmarked graves behind the Prince's personal palace. Jiraiya and Naruto did not mention what they found but Tanna guessed the spoiled Prince most likely ignored his so called concubines after a few romp around with them. That is very dangerous for people part of the palace and an easy target for assassins. Not to forget all the stories about the assassin attempts that the Daimyo's family has to face. Of course it was all speculation, the concubines could have just left too after getting permission from the Fire Daimyo. Mikoto hummed and then added her own two cents about the time her team went there. They believed that the Prince's first wife slowly poisons the concubines slowly killing them.

Yoshino, "I am surprised you did not investigate it. Weren't you the least bit curious?"

Mikoto, "I was, but we had a time limited mission so we could not look around."

Himeko, "It usually is like that and we cannot get involved without repercussions towards the village and the clan."

Tanna, "True, politics can be quiet the headache to deal with. I am not even directly involved and I feel a migraine just thinking about it."

Mikoto, "Time for class, ladies. Say Tanna - chan, how are Ritsu - Sensei and Midori - Sensei doing? I believe they are following your schedule the last few months."

Tanna smiled, "They are doing well. In fact, they are pretty confident in their own schedule and routines. I think they will be a good addition to our Academy."

Himeko hummed, "How is your check up going?"

Tanna, "It is going well. Well, it is going as well as it can be."

Yoshino, "What do you mean?"

Tana launched into an explanation about what Shizune - chan had discovered about her constitution so far. From what they know Genjutsu will obviously not work on Tanna and on the same logical note neither will chakra based healing methods. Seals on the other hand, might have a slight chance to be effective as it has been used on inanimate and chakra - less objects before. However creating such seals might be difficult as Tanna was a living human and Shizune shuddered to think about what such a seal could do if it was created. Tanna though had been curious an sent a letter to Jiraiya and Naruto only to get a resounding 'NO!', as an answer. The three ladies also stared at her incredulously and slightly shook their heads in disbelief at her explanation of what was happening. But then again, considering the fact their young friend had no qualms about befriending dangerous shinobi, it was no ssurprie, she would be curious about the seal thing too.

Mikoto gave a sigh, 'Who am I kidding? I am morbidly curious too.'

Himeko, 'But heaven forbid if anyone tries it.'

Yoshino, 'Anyone who hurts our friend will face our wrath.'

Seven months later:

Anko, "Shizune - chan, we are here."

Shizune, "Anko - chan, Tanna - chan, welcome."

Tanna grinned handing a white and purple casserole to her, "Congratulations, Iryo nin specialist Shizune."

Anko grinned, "You did it, Shizune. You did it."

Shizune's eyes gleamed, "Thank you, both of you. Is this home made roast?"

Tanna smiled kindly, "You mentioned, you really liked the beef roast last time we had a ladies day out. Figured, I could bring your favourite today."

Shizune's eyes softened, "You are too sweet sometimes, Tanna - chan."

Anko giggled, "Yup, and she is all mine."

Shizune, "The younger kunoichi are upstairs. Tsunade - sama will be coming by later on after her work is over."

Tanna, "Hmm.. Alright, do you need help with something?"

Shizune shook her head, "No, no, the clan ladies are helping out with the setting. You do not have to worry about it. In fact, go upstairs and relax. Especially you Anko - chan, you need rest."

Anko, "You are just as sweet, Shizune - chan. We will go upstairs for now then."

Sakura was telling others about her newest mission or rather complaining, "I had sand everywhere. Honestly I do not know how Temari - hime handled it."

Hinata nodded, "Yes, as much as it is wonderful to see her and her brothers the sands are quiet the challenge. Even with chakra flowing to get rid of the sand that is sticking to you."

Ino noticed them, "Anko - sensei and Tanna - sensei, you are here."

Tanna smiled, "How have you girls been?"

Sakura, "We have been well Sensei. In fact I am confident about the next Chunin exams even though they are not held in Konoha."

Tanna, "I think this time there will be two groups only."

Tenten nodded giggling, "Yes, an all kunoichi and an all shinobi group. We want to mess with them a bit. They are used to seeing two shinobi and one kunoichi from Konoha."

Anko laughed, "I see, I see. Kami, I wish I could be there when you kids finally show them what you got."

Kuroda popped his head in, "Senseis, you are here. Sakura - chan, ladies, how have you been?"

Shinji, "Sensei is here too? Hello ladies."

Sai, "Hello Senseis, Ino - chan, everyone."

Sakura beamed, "Hello Kuroda - kun, how are you Shinji - kun and Sai - kun."

Ino smiled happily, "Hello Sai - kun, you made it. How is your relationship with Hatake - san doing?"

Shinji turned pink, "We are doing okay. He wants me to meet his parents next week."

Sai chuckled, "Ino - chan, he is not telling you everything."

Shinji, "Sai - kun!"

Kuroda smiled, "What Sai means is that the Hatake clan and Uchiha clan has agreed to the marriage between Kaworu and Shinji."

Tanna, "That is wonderful news, Shinji - kun."

Anko, "Hope we get an invite to the after party of your engagement."

Shinji nodded, "Of course, you all are invited. I just do not understand why elder Danzo is so interested in my engagement though."

Tanna, "Eh? Why?"

Sakura, "That is a little odd."

Kuroda, "He is still bothering you? I thought the clan Elders already rejected his offer."

Anko stiffened, "Offer? What offer?"

Sakura narrowed her eyes, "Is this about his secret army thing? I find him questionable to be perfectly honest with you."

Ino huffed, "Not to forget how he raised Sai - kun. I do not like him."

Sai, "It is okay, Ino - chan. Besides I have you and my nii - san as my family now."

Ino blushed, "Awww ~ I love you, Sai."

Sai smiled, "I love you too, Ino - chan."

Tanna, "How sweet! Anyway, Shinji - kun, if Danzo is bothering you, tell him I wish to talk to him."

Shinji, "Sensei no, I do not want you to place yourself in danger. We all know he does not like you nor respect you."

Tenten, "Agreed Sensei, that is risky."

Anko, "Do not worry kiddos, I will be by her side when that happens."

Shizune appeared, "When what happens?"

Shinji sighed, "Tanna - Sensei wants to confront elder Danzo on my behalf."

Shizune frowned, "He is still bothering your clans? I thought Tsunade - sama put a stop to that already."

Shinji, "She did but it does not stop him. He does not care from what I saw."

Shizune bristled but stayed calm, "I see, well, let's talk about stubborn men later. For now, come downstairs all of you. Food is ready and it is time to get this party started."

Anko grinned, "Nice, let's do it. Hope you have some strong alcohol for me, Shizune - chan."

Shizune, "For you and Tsunade, yes. For the rest of us, normal alcohol."

Sakura, "I want the same immunity that Tsunade - sama and Anko - sensei has against alcohol."

Shizune laughed, "Don't we all but if we do we will have a hard time getting actually drunk."

Sakura, "That is true."

Kuroda chuckled, "I am sure you can do it, Sakura - chan. It might take some years and a lot of throwing up first though. Do not worry, I will help clean up."

Sakura, "Aww ~ Thanks Kuroda - kun, I really appreciate the support."

Kuroda, "Of course, it is one of your goals. Plus, can you imagine what a power couple we could become? You have a strong immunity towards alcohol and I having a strong immunity towards fire?"

Ino, "Oh yeah! How is the fire immunity training coming along?"

Kuroda, "It is going as great as it can, I will say. I actually wanted to be immune to Genjutsu like Sensei, but then I read the papers."

Shinji, "Yeah, it is biologically impossible. We would most likely need to carry a release seal on us permanently to replicate the effects."

Kuroda, "Which is a good idea in theory but a pain in practicality. It would mess with our own Genjutsus."

Hinata, "Good point."

Tenten, "You worry about Genjutsus too, Hinata - chan."

Hinata nodded, "Yes, I am afraid that while being a Byakugan user usually allows us to see through most Genjutsu, but if we are hurt or low on chakra we are just as vulnerable as anyone else out there."

Anko hummed, "I always carry some chakra infused needles to pierce myself to snap out of any illusion. Though it does not work if the illusion is area based."

Tenten grinned, "That just makes Sensei's constitution more special, doesn't it?"

Tanna, "Perhaps, but it also means healing methods based on chakra does not work on me."

Ino, "Then we just have to work harder to keep you safe and protected Sensei."

Sakura nodded, "You can count on us."

Hinata, "You raised us as much as our parents. So, it is our turn to take care of you."

Tanna, "Aww ~ My little girls are all wonderful, mature women now. I am so proud."

The young Kunoichi beamed at the praise getting chuckles from the older women and smiles from the boys. Tsunade joined them just as they were about to start dinner, apologizing for being late, to which Shizune waved off. She was happy she was taking her work as the Godaime seriously and not getting drunk slacking off. Tsunade pouted playfully at that and then congratulated her on becoming a full fledged medic and one of the Head Specialists. Shizune beamed at the praise and they started to enjoy the dinner, with Kurenai joining them with Asuma as her date. They teased the couple who had been dancing around each other for light fun. Tanna noticed the other kunoichi and shinobi were all medics and friends Shizune had made the last few months during her work at the hospital. According to Tsunade, Naruto was sending a gift for his Shizune nee - chan, as congratulations as he could not leave his training in the middle of it all. Tanna half wondered what sort of training it was but decided she could ask when he returns.

Eleven months later:

Tanna looked at the scenery outside, 'It is almost a year now.'

Kakashi appeared, "Yo!"

Tanna, "Kashi - kun, this is a surprise."

Kakashi chuckled, "I made a promise to let you know when Sasuke's first training phase was over. So, this is me letting you know."

Tanna, "Thank you, Kashi - kun."

Kakashi, "No problem, Tanna - chan. How have you been? I heard Shizune - chan did a full body check up on you for a few months."

Tanna, "I have been well. I learned interesting things about myself lately. Aside from the obvious, I apparently have grown my own immunity against certain types of poisoning."

Kakashi's eyes sharpened, "Someone tried to poison you?"

Tanna, "Ehhhhh! I would not say that."

Kakashi looked at her incredulously, "You took poison willingly?"

Tanna, "I mean fugu is a delicious fish?"

Kakashi, "Tanna - chan, even shinobi train their poison immunity before eating that damned fish."

Tanna, "But I live and it was delicious."

Kakashi narrowed his eyes, "What else?"

Tanna, "What do you mean?"

Kakashi, "What other poison have you been consuming? Does Anko know?"

Tanna, "She was there during the check ups. She never missed one after the initial pre - checks."

Kakashi, "Answer the question."

Tanna raised an eyebrow, "Damn, are you my father reincarnated or something? Okay, okay, there is some octachlorodipropyl ether or S-2, S-421, found in my lungs."

Kakashi was alarmed, "That is a slow acting poison. Tanna, what?"

Anko appeared, "It was something given to her as a child. At least according to the strain Shizune found on her."

Kakashi was scarily calm, "I see. Anything else? Like who was responsible for it? And why?"
