Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A Weird Dream

[Aspirant! Welcome to the Nightmare Spell. Prepare for your First Trial...]

The pure darkness Talvir was embedded on shifted with the words of the voice. It suddenly became liquid and flowed towards underneath his feet, filling his view with what seemed to be an ocean made of black ink. Looking up he found himself looking at the stars, how was he able to see the nocturnal sky with his eyes closed was a mystery to him but a dream is a dream.

He felt himself being displaced by the rapid black waters, the waves shifting and moving him forward while wooden fishing boats and weird giant war vessels flashed in and out of existance, some racing past him some passing through him. The firmament also changed, the moon following the sun with their fast paced dance, each of their moves extending or shortning Talvir's shadow.

In the distance he saw cliffs coming towards him, or was it him going towards the cliffs, he just could not tell. As the distance shortened Talvir's gaze fixated itself upon a giant tree, which seemed to enlarge every passing second. At this point the dance in the firmament came to a halt and the starry sky dominated the view. The moon behind the tree seemed to inch closer and closer engulfing the tree which became only a shadowy silloette eclipsing the moon. The picturesque scene continued for what seemed years to Talvir, when he suddenly woke up.

----------

Stirred awake Talvir sat up and groggily assessed his surroundings, darkness was what he was met with and was only combated by the light of a dying candle in the corner of the space he found himself in. Doing the only thing he could think of in the moment he stood up and extended he hands to the sides trying to find a wall he could touch while he walked towards the dying candle light. Brushing his hand with what he assumed was a cold stone wall he picked up his paced towards the candle which he the picked up and used like a make shift torch. He lifted up the candle which lit up the place he was in better, a room, with a single path way marked by an old wooden doorframe.

"Well, could be worst to be honest"

Talvir said as he made his way towards the only path he could take.

"At least I am not in some kind of battlefield, just an eerely quite and dark place. Definitly, not a ominous place at all." He though depreciatly.

He walked down the hallway, a clearly make shift corridor made primerly by broke rocks and stony walls with clear indicatives of being mined through by the deep scratches and dents which littered said walls. The only thing that broke the monotonous look of this place were wooden frames much like the doorway he found which appeared in intervals of 5 or so minutes, he could not really tell how much time passed between each one of them but that was the closest approximate he could arrive to. He walked and walked and walked, down the cold stony corridor when after passing the 17 wooden frame the candle flame that was his only source of light finally died.

Now plunged into darkness, Talvir, kept going forward with his hand on the wall as that was the only thing to guide him in this precarious situation. He walked and walked and walked, again, when after passing for 32 more wooden frames, finally he caught the glimpse of a light, easy to notice after such a long time in the dark, and immediatly picked up pace he needed to get out of this hallway, he needed space, he needed fresh air.

Running towards what he assumed was the exit, he started hearing what seemed to be waves crashing onto rocks. A simple cacophony was then formed as the sound of waves crashing onto bolders ashore and the shrill whistle of wind passing through the jagged rocky walls of the entrance combined and revereberated through that cursed hallway. Step by step this twisted song of nature grew louder and louder and then stepping out into the blinding light Talvir had to close his eyes which were unaccustomed to the new brightness and instead was greeted with the salty taste and sharp winds, so emblematic of a seaside cliff.

Slowly becoming used to the newfound brightness he was greated with the view of what seemed to be the infinitly extending sea at the dusk of an old day. Jolted by the beautiful scene he remembered that, although the view was splendid and the contrasting colours of the inky black waters and rose-orange tinted sky was simply mesmerizing, he was still in the most deadly place humanity had to offer, the Nightmare Spell.

Pulling himself together after this realisation, he took deep breaths appreciating the newfound fresh air and did one of the things that the small amount of training his mother so painstakingly paid for taught him and opened his runes for the first time.

"It seems luck is not on my side." Talvir said vapidly "Really, 'there is not a single useless Aspect', was a statement I believed? Seriously, when did I become so naïve, to the point of falling for propaganda."

"The Spell, the Nightmare Spell, is the name of this fucking acursed plane of existance. And I, like a fucking lamb to the slaughter, was lulled into believing in promises and dreams of grandiour!"

At this point Talvir was filled with rage, he must survive, he must show his dead mother that he can indeed keep promises. Anyhow, when had he ever been given anything on a silver platter? As kid living on the Outskirts, when had he been given any advantages for free? Give and take, transactions, was all that life is and if the rugged Outskirts had taught him anything it was that: If there are no opportunities create one and if someone else has one. Usurp it.
