Chapter 24 - Past Matters

Mikhail glances at me. "And you, beautiful lady. May I ask why are you with this weird, ugly, atrocious looking man?"

Pfft.

"Even, I don't know—" I answer but stop as I feel Ace glaring at me.

"Fuck off." Ace steps close to him. "We have nothing to do with each other right? Isn't that what you said when you ran away?"

Hmm, interesting.

"So, why did you suddenly come back wanting to take over the company—oh, is it cause it's profiting a lot? If it was the opposite you would never come right?" Ace frowns.

"I ran away? Oh come on, as if you weren't the reason I left this terrible family." Mikhail scoffs. "I didn't run away, I left."

"Same thing." Ace rolls his eyes.

"Sure. But don't you think I am much more worthy than you?"

Ace frowns.

"Oh, what's wrong?" Mikhail grins. "Did you forget? You're not even the real son of my parents—"

"Shut. Up." Ace warns. "You left them a long time ago."

"Ok ok. You're right, I did. But technically i'm their real son. Aren't I? So, shouldn't I be the next chairman?"

Ace grabs his collar. "You're still the same, arrongant and selfish—"

Mikhail frowns. "Really? I am now? You, ever since you came to my family, my parents forgot about me as if I was the adopted one—"

"Mikhail! You chose the wrong path!" Ace lets go of his collar.

"I did! And I have no regrets, cause now, I am powerful."

"At what cost? You lost your parents, your friends…because of what you became—"

Mikhaile smiles, almost evilly. "I gained much more than that. Just because I am a criminal now, doesn't mean I can't be the chairman of my dad's company."

"Fine. You want to become the chairman then meet him. Your father. Tell him you want to be the chairman."

"You think that will stop me? I will, by hook or by crook." Mikhail steps back, he signals his men to step out. They were waiting just beside the door. Before Mikhail steps outside he looks back. "Oh and you still owe me an apology." He leaves.

Door shuts

What just happened…?

Wait—Ace is adopted?

And that guy…is the real son—

"Fucking asshole." *Ace places his hand on the countertop of the kitchen.

He looks mad. Of course, he must be upset too.

I feel…bad.

Should I say something?

I take a step closer. "Hey—"

He glares at me. "What! You must be happy, right? You hate me so much and seeing me in such a pathetic state must be very wonderful. You can finally laugh at me…"

He steps close and I step back. "I never said—"

"What are you gonna do? You're gonna tell everyone?" He steps closer and closer. "You're gonna tell the whole office? Tell your mom and dad—oh and your little brother and while you're at it, make sure to tell your boyfriend too—"

"Mr. Hart. I have no reason to tell anyone about this—"

"Sure. Why? You hate me don't you? Then why not benefit from this? Why not sell this info to the media?" He takes one final step close until my back hits the wooden wall. He reached out and grabs the edge of the wall, gripping it hard.

I flinch at the sound. "Why are you taking your anger out on me! Why didn't you take it on him?"

"You—"

"If you have family problems you should solve them instead of fightin—"

"You don't know anything about me! Just because your life is full of rainbows and unicorns doesn't mean everyone is living the same way."

"You also don't know anything about me."

Our eyes slightly teary but angry. I stare back as if I don't, I'll lose.

"I'm not interested." He says before clenching his jaw.

"Neither am I."

Clack

We blink reluctantly looking away before looking at that sound of the door.

Door opens.

It's grandma Mabel.

"Oh my. Did I interrupt?" She places a hand on her cheek.

Ace steps back, I stand straight.

"It's ok, keep going. I just came to get my phone."

Ace snaps his head to her. "Phone?"

"Yes, phone, y'know the thing that kids use these days." She goes around the table grabs a pot opens it and takes out a phone.

"But you said you didn't have a phone?" Ace questions, confused.

Yeah, where did that come from?

"Oh my, I have a really bad memory. I actually forget about some things. I even forgot your names." Grandma Mabel, laughs fanning her hand.

How come she hasn't forgotten her name?

Ace sighs. "We're leaving, thanks for letting us stay here." He says dryly, immediately after saying that he exists through the door.

I look at grandma and smile. "Uh—thanks for letting us stay." I rush out the door.

Is he planning to leave me behind? Where is he.

I look around before I catch a glimpse of him. I rush and catch up to him, then act as if I was walking normally.

He's looking around.

Silence. There's just the sound of our footsteps—

"That fucking asshole!"

I slightly flinch as he suddenly curses.

"He just left. Seems like I always get in trouble somehow." He mumbles, before glaring at me as if I put him in this situation.

I look away.

He's still glaring.

What the—

"What!" I look at him. "Why are you glaring me when i'm stuck here because of you."

He scoffs at me. "Everytime I with you, everything goes wrong. Nothing ever goes right."

Then go left.

Sorry.

Why is my brain joking around at this time? And who am I apologising to—

"You attract problems you know that?" He points at me.

I roll my eyes, here he goes again. With him I feel like i'm with a toxic mother-in-law.

"You're the biggest problem around here." I mumbled to myself.

"What did you say?"

I look at him, frowning. "You," I turn to him. "You gave me a job in your company when I didn't even ask for it, you made me your personal secretary forcefully, you told your parents and my parents that we're together, you forced me to stay in your apartment, I got kidnapped because of your family matters that I have nothing to do with just because you told your family that we're dating and yet you say that i'm the problem?" I point at him stepping close as he takes steps back. "Mr. Hart. I have no interest in you or your life yet it seems that you find it fun to mess with my life. Once we're out of here, i'm resigning and I hope after that we don't meet each other."

"…" He stares without blinking.

I step back and start walking before I stop as he talks. "Who said you could resign."

I frown confusingly and turn around. "What?"

"You have signed a contract." He says stepping closer. "And why would I let you go now that you know all that personal information about me and my family." He slightly leans down. "Are you planning to sell that info?"

This piece of sh*t.

He really thinks highly of himself.
