She attempted to see even a glimmer of something unusual in his eyes to determine if her guess was correct.

The surprise in his eyes at that moment wasn't feigned; it was real. However, it wasn't surprise at An Shihua being a Demonic Plant, but rather that she had suddenly, and without any warning, revealed her identity to him.
