Chapter 199 - Emberwing

Later, after forgetting and remembering again and again, Scarlett finally returned to Dreadhaven. She didn't dare risk teleporting straight to the dreadhaven—what if she forgot and left him behind completely and forgot that she ever met him? That would have been a bigger mess.

So instead, she dragged him all the way, muttering to herself like a broken record.

"Osiris… came from hell… needs to be treated… needs some rest… Osiris… came from hell…" She repeated it over and over inside her head, her voice flat but determined.

By the time she reached the outskirts of Dreadhaven, the sight in front of her made her stop.

A large crowd had already gathered. Their faces looked heavy, confused, and tense, as though something big had just happened. For a second, Scarlett thought there had been another attack. Her heart tensed up, but then she quickly dismissed the thought. No one from her pact had died—she would have felt it immediately.

The moment the people noticed her, they bowed deeply and greeted her with respect. Strangely enough, even though Scarlett was dragging Osiris along the ground like a sack of potatoes, nobody looked at him, nobody asked, nobody even seemed to notice his existence. It was as if he wasn't there at all.

Scarlett raised a brow behind her blindfold, but she didn't comment. She was just about to open her mouth when Xao Feng stepped out from the crowd. Xao bowed slightly, her expression serious.

"My lady, something strange has happened," Xao said.

She then quickly explained what had happened a few minutes ago—the battle between the archangels, the woman falling, Gabriel's appearance, and his sudden retreat.

"The female angel seems to be an archangel too," Xao added in a softer voice. "She's unconscious and resting in the palace for now. Miss Lunatic, Reiza, and the others are keeping watch in case she wakes up as an enemy."

Scarlett nodded firmly. "Good, good. Let's go then!" She didn't bother explaining Osiris's situation, especially since nobody seemed to notice him anyway. She simply continued dragging him along the ground as if nothing was out of place.

Later, when she entered the palace with Xao, the guards had cleared the area so that only they could go inside. The two quickly made their way toward the room where the archangel was unconscious.

But the moment Scarlett stepped inside, Lunatic turned and spotted her.

Her eyes first locked on Scarlett, then slowly trailed down to the man Scarlett was dragging across the polished floor like a half-broken mannequin.

Lunatic's face twisted in complete confusion. Her mouth opened, her brows furrowed, and she asked with the most baffled tone imaginable—

"…Why are you dragging a corpse?"

Scarlett raised her eyebrow in surprise. "Oh, you can see him?"

At that moment, Li Feng, Xao Feng, and Semiath—who were waiting just outside the room—also lifted their brows in surprise. All three of them spoke at once.

"Oh yeah, I didn't notice at all!"

"Did you get a stealth skill?" Li Feng asked curiously.

Scarlett quickly shook her head, waving her hand dismissively. "Stealth isn't my style! I'll explain later. For now, let's just go inside first."

The three exchanged a glance but didn't press her further. They stepped aside and allowed Scarlett to enter.

Inside the room, Reiza and Siira were standing beside a woman lying unconscious on a bed. The woman looked otherworldly—six pure white wings stretched behind her, a glowing crown of wings hovered above her head, and she wore a robe so white and divine that it almost shone with a soft light.

Her face was delicate, flawless, and serene, so much so that it seemed as if a goddess herself had descended to the mortal world.

"She's really beaut—" Scarlett began to say, but before the words left her lips, she caught the sharp glares from both Lunatic and Reiza. Their eyes burned like blades piercing her. Scarlett immediately clamped her mouth shut, cutting her words off mid-sentence as if she had never spoken.

Inside her mind, she let out a long exhale. "Phew… I was one step away from death!"

She decided to remain silent, but then Lunatic suddenly stepped back, her eyes narrowing with shock.

"Why are you dragging a corpse?" she asked, clearly forgetting she had asked the same thing only moments ago.

Scarlett sighed helplessly. "Everyone, form a circle. This part is more important than the unconscious lady over there."

After gathering everyone, Scarlett explained how she had found Osiris. Once she finished, she gently laid Osiris down on the second bed in the room.

"So—" Xao began to ask something, but before she could finish, Siira interrupted.

"Wait a minute!" Siira hurried to the corner of the room and pulled out a small board. She quickly used magic to write down everything Scarlett had just explained about Osiris.

"There! Even if we forget, we can just read this again." She gave a satisfied smile.

"Good one, Siira!" Scarlett grinned and gave her a big thumbs-up.

Now that the matter of Osiris was recorded, everyone could finally turn their attention to the angelic woman on the bed.

But half an hour passed, and she still hadn't moved a muscle.

"She has some injuries on her eyes," Li Feng said thoughtfully, tapping her chin. "They aren't regenerating at all. Or… do archangels not regenerate?"

"Of course they do," Scarlett replied with certainty. "But maybe because of her eyes, the injuries spread deeper. It could have damaged her brain too. That's probably why she's still unconscious."

As she spoke, her eyes drifted toward Osiris, whose condition looked even worse. His body was battered, and his life-force felt faint, almost fading with each breath.

"Maybe I should try healing him," Scarlett muttered softly to herself. She walked over to his bedside and sat down gently.

She closed her eyes and summoned her flame of the phoenix, letting the fiery glow wrap around Osiris's broken body. Normally, this flame could heal terrible wounds in seconds, cure deadly poison, and even purify deep curses. But this time… the effect was painfully slow. The flame struggled against invisible damage, barely mending his body.

Scarlett bit her lip. "Too slow… his wounds aren't just physical. They're far deeper. What kind of battle did he go through to end up like this?"

Her thoughts churned with worry, but suddenly, everyone's eyes brightened at the same time.

"She's awake!" Siira exclaimed with a wide smile, pointing at the angelic woman.

The angelic woman sat up slowly, her movements calm and graceful. She didn't panic or rush, as though even without her sight she already knew she was in a safe place surrounded by a few people. With a wave of her hand, a silvery blindfold appeared out of thin air. She tied it gently over her face, covering the wounds where her eyes used to be.

Scarlett stepped forward carefully, her voice soft. "Hello… are you okay? Can you see us?"

The woman tilted her head slightly, her blindfold shifting with the motion. "Usually, I can. But right now, I can't. Still, I can sense all of you clearly." Her voice was delicate, like a breeze brushing across calm water. "Thank you for saving me. I don't know how you managed it, but by saving me… you may have saved the entire world as well."

As soon as she said that, her cheeks flushed, and she shook her head quickly in embarrassment. "Please… forget what I just said about saving the world."

Scarlett's smug grin widened. She pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh. Inside her mind, however, she said, "Ain't no way I'm forgetting that!"

Lunatic stepped forward, her tone steady and cautious. "Do you remember how you ended up here? And why all of this happened?" She carefully avoided repeating anything about the " saving the world" that the woman had mentioned.

The angelic woman stayed silent, her posture still and thoughtful, as if she was weighing whether or not to share the truth.

Scarlett watched her closely and sighed inwardly. "She doesn't trust us enough…"

But before her thoughts could spiral further, the angel shook her head slowly. "No… it's not about trust. I simply don't want you all to step into more danger because of me."

Scarlett froze, her dead heart skipping a beat. "Wait… did she just read my mind?!"

As if sensing her alarm, the angel gently shook her head again. "No, I didn't read anyone's mind. I simply predicted what you all might be thinking."

Scarlett exhaled in relief, her shoulders dropping slightly. But, "Wait she predicted imh thoughts again", almost instantly, her expression hardened.

But forgetting that, Her face turned confident as she clenched her fist forward.

"You're not putting anyone in danger," Scarlett declared firmly. "We're strong enough to face it. And we need to know what happened if we're going to prepare for the future." Her words carried confidence that made even the others straighten their backs unconsciously.

The room fell quiet for a moment, the weight of the situation pressing on everyone. The very mention of archangels stirred unease. They weren't ordinary beings—these were the same divine entities that had once nearly killed Avion, the first demon king. They were the subsidiary gods, the governors of the world itself.

The angel remained still, as though studying them through the silence. "For some reason… her voice sounds so familiar…" she thought to herself, though she didn't reveal it aloud.

Finally, she took a quiet breath and introduced herself. "I am Raphael. Raphael Emberwing. The second archangel… the angel of knowledge and intelligence.

Raphael continued, her voice tinged with sorrow. "To be honest… the less you know, the better. But I cannot leave you blind either. All I can say is this: the archangels have chosen to betray Father. They are trying to merge into one… to create something new. An 'Angel of Salvation.' A being powerful enough that might be able to kill and replace Father himself."

The word Father wasn't hard to understand. She was speaking of none other than the Creator.

"Angel of Salvation…?" Xao repeated in shock, her body trembling lightly. For reasons she couldn't explain, cold shivers ran down her spine at the mere sound of the name.

Raphael nodded slowly. "Yes. That is why they needed me… my body. And something else, That thing. I tried to flee before they could succeed, but I failed. Somehow… by a miracle, you all managed to rescue me."

Her explanation was brief, but heavy. The room filled with silence as everyone's thoughts raced wildly. Imagination clawed at their minds, each person trying to picture what would have happened.

But for Scarlett, the words barely registered. The voices around her felt distant, muffled, as if she was slipping into another world entirely. Her thoughts were captured by just one thing.

"Emberwing…?"
