Chapter 4 - The massage

Alex stepped back from the barrier, his mind still buzzing with the weight of the history Kaelor had shared. The wizard's calm yet sharp gaze met his, and Alex realized that the journey ahead would be far more dangerous than he had imagined.

Kaelor leaned on his silver-tipped staff, his cloak fluttering slightly in the wind. "If we are to be traveling together," he said, twirling the staff with a playful flick, "then perhaps I should tell you my name. I am Kaelor. And don't let the serious voice fool you I have my moments of fun." He winked, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.

Alex blinked, momentarily thrown off by the wizard's lightheartedness. "Right… Kaelor. Got it."

Kaelor chuckled, clearly enjoying the reaction. "Good. Now, shall we continue? There is much to learn, and the world doesn't wait for the cautious."

Before Alex could respond, a faint rustle came from the trees. Both he and Kaelor turned sharply. From the shadows, a figure emerged. She moved with precision, every step calculated, her presence tense and deliberate.

"I was told to eliminate you," she said abruptly. Her voice was sharp, but Alex sensed there was more behind her words than she revealed.

Alex instinctively raised a hand. "Eliminate me? Why"

"I don't know," she interrupted. "I was given orders, and this is what I was told to do. That's all you need to know."

Kaelor tilted his head, studying her with amusement. "And who might you be, young warrior?"

The figure hesitated, then replied, "Kira."

Kaelor waved a hand as if dismissing the tension. "Ah, so we have a mysterious new companion. Delightful. I hope you don't mind my sense of humor it tends to sneak out even in the most… dire situations."

Kira's eyes narrowed slightly, but she said nothing.

Before Alex could speak further, a bold voice rang out from deeper in the forest. "Well, well, what do we have here?"

From behind a cluster of trees stepped a man, his movements confident and unapologetically direct. He held no weapon, yet his presence demanded attention. "I'm Vile," he announced, glancing at each of them. "And I have information about what you're looking for."

Alex frowned, curiosity and caution warring within him. "Who... are you exactly?"

Vile smirked. "A scientist. A man who digs where others fear to step. That's all you need to know for now." He raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying the mix of suspicion and awe he stirred.

Kaelor gave a small laugh. "Ah, a bold one. I like him. Very well, Alex, Kira, it seems our little team is already expanding."

Kira's stance softened slightly, her masked face unreadable. "We'll see if his information is worth anything," she said coolly.

Vile grinned. "Trust me, it is. Follow me if you want answers. But know this the road ahead is treacherous, and curiosity alone will not keep you alive."

Alex nodded, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. Kaelor gave him a playful nudge. "Come now, young Alex, let's see what adventures await. I assure you, it will be… memorable."

As they set off, the forest seemed alive around them. Shadows danced, the wind whispered through the leaves, and the path ahead was uncertain. Yet Alex felt a spark of hope he was no longer alone. Allies had joined him, each with their own strengths, secrets, and quirks.

And somewhere, in the distance, the world's hidden truths waited to be uncovered.
