Opening my eyes, I was instantly greeted by a pair of glowing red eyes, less than an inch from my face.
"It went out." A chilling voice spoke to me, exhausted and spent.
I remained calm, this not being the first time I have woken up in a similar predicament. As I contemplated moving, the voice resumed, as two hands cupped my face.
"I tried as long as I could to keep it alight, but I am not strong enough. Compared to your purity, my flames only doused it. Ruined it. I failed it. It's gone..."
Keeping my voice calm and soothing I spoke, "Lena. What does a fire require to sustain itself?"
"Energy." Lena spoke without missing a beat.
"Right. You expended all your energy. The fire has taken its natural course after feeding it all your yummy energy. It's gone now. Done. You know fire has to end eventually. Even stars end."
