Chapter 24 - Scene 24:

You help carry the wounded to the infirmary. There they are tended to by your comrades, who, with a composure they didn't even know they possessed, stitch cuts, pull out shards of glass, and staunch hemorrhages. There is no anesthesia left; a nocturnal sabotage by the youth destroyed their reserves. The injured had to bite the bullet, bite down on a pillow or a popsicle stick, and endure.

A comrade tells you that Sumire sent for you. You nod, and walk down the stairs with quick steps to reach the university lobby. You find Sumire looking with dark-circled eyes over the barricades, beyond the gates, where a line of youth armed with machetes, pipes, and rocks wait for a signal to attack.

"Is it inevitable that this story ends in bloodshed?" she asks without looking at you. Her voice is hoarse; it was never the same since a mob assaulted her in the middle of the night with all her printed poems and forced her to swallow them. She was so happy that they were going to be published, but then that happened, and she just stopped caring.

A white flag is raised from the opposing side, but none of your comrades celebrate.

"Parley," Sumire says, clarifying what everyone is thinking.

You gather everyone who can fight and equip them with anything that can be used as weapons: bats, chains, kitchen knives, et cetera. You assemble a mass of people similar to that of the youth. You offer to push Sumire's wheelchair, but she insists on managing by herself.

You reach the campus.

The respective leaders of each faction step forward; you accompany your friend. Isaac follows the leader of the youth without paying you the slightest bit of interest, as if you were strangers. Sumire and Gustavo stand face to face in the middle of the grassy esplanade, separated by five meters. Gustavo's metallic arm gleams in the sun; you are still not sure what happened to him. The representatives speak loud enough for their combatants to hear.

"Ready to sign a peace treaty and stop this barbarity?" Sumire asks.

"Peace...?" Gustavo cracks a humorless smile and looks around. "Let's be honest, does anyone even know what that is?"

Ending 7: War.
