Tae's Growing Concern
After that night, I was deeply worried about Kim. He had inner depression and a brain tumor. What could be causing it? For three days, he had woken up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat and panicking. I needed to understand what was happening to my boyfriend. This was too much for him; he was too young for such an ordeal.
I looked at Kim, who had just fallen back asleep after waking, as he did every day. When he woke from those episodes, he'd drift back to sleep quickly. I kissed his forehead and quietly slipped out of the room, heading to his dad's.
A Confession and a Plan
The light was on when I reached the door. He seemed to be reading or doing something. I knocked. "Come in," he called from inside.
I gently opened the door and entered. "What brings you here, Tae?" he asked, putting aside his laptop and turning to face me.
"Sir..." I started, but he cut me off.
"Call me Dad, not sir," he said with a smile. I nodded.
"Well, Dad, it's about Kim," I explained.
"Go on. Did you get more information?" he prompted.
"No. Anytime I ask him, he says he's okay. But at night, he wakes up in the middle of the night, all sweaty and panicking, and then falls back asleep after a few seconds," I said. He looked confused.
"Since when did you start witnessing it?" he asked.
"Since I was kidnapped," I replied.
"I'll talk to the doctor. Kim won't go to the hospital willingly. He'd argue that he's fine," he stated, already planning.
"I will take him. Just tell me when you're ready," I offered.
"What about tomorrow?" he suggested.
"Sure, tomorrow's Sunday. We don't have school, so it'll be perfect," I confirmed.
"Fine, tomorrow then, after breakfast. Just take him there," he said. We said our goodbyes, and I went back to the room.
A Terrifying Scare
I entered the room, and something felt immediately wrong. My eyes scanned the room. Phew, nothing. I walked to the bed, and oh no, Kim! Kim! Where was he? He was gone! No, no, no. I searched the room; he wasn't there. Where on earth could he be?
I rushed to the balcony, hoping to spot him. To my greatest fear, he was standing on the balcony wall, ready to jump. "Kim... Baby... Kim baby, look, I'm here now," I said, taking fast, cautious steps to reach him quickly. But he seemed to be sleepwalking. This was bad.
And then, he jumped.
"No!!!!!" My heart stopped. "Kim!" I screamed, lunging forward and grabbing his hand. "Open your eyes, Kim... Look at me, you'll be fine!" I pleaded, struggling to drag him up. But his eyes were still closed. "Help! Hyung (형)! Dad! Mom! Anyone, please help!" I yelled at the top of my voice.
Mom (Jiang) was the first to arrive. "What!!!" she exclaimed. "Honey! Hyung (형)!" she screamed.
"Mom!" Hyung (형) called out, reaching the balcony.
"Help them!" she sobbed. He rushed over and helped me drag Kim to safety. He was now secure.
I carried him back to his room. "Dad... Kim..." I broke down crying, hugging Kim as my body shook.
"We need to take him to the hospital now," Dad suggested. I carried Kim to the car immediately.
At the Hospital
We were assigned a VVIP room. It had a lounge, a personal bathroom and toilet, a kitchen, sofas, a couch, a fridge. It was essentially like a personal suite. Kim was given an IV drip, and then the doctor came and checked him. After that, they took his blood and left.
After what seemed like hours, Kim woke up. "Where... where am I?" he asked, his voice weak.
I looked up, my eyes swollen and red, and hugged him. "You... you fool! If you scare me like that again, I'll leave you!" I said, my voice cracking.
"I'm sorry," he said in a sad voice.
"No apologies," I insisted. "Tell me, what were you thinking, Kim? You tried to harm yourself!" I asked, gently caressing his face.
"I... I don't know, Taeyang (태양)... I just thought it was a dream," he confessed.
"A dream? How can a dream lead to something like that?" I asked, confused.
"Promise me now that you won't worry if I tell you," he said. I nodded, and he made me do a pinkie promise. "After that day you were kidnapped, it was a shock for me. And ever since then, I've been having a strange dream where you torment me. Today, you said that if I love you, I should jump from the balcony... and you even jumped and stretched out your hands, saying you would catch me if I fell," he recounted, a faint blush on his face.
"Ah, Kim... What are you thinking? If I were to jump from the balcony... what's happening to you?" I asked, overwhelmed.
"I'm sorry, love," he said. I just hugged him and planted a soft kiss on his head. But he didn't want it to end there. He held my neck and kissed my lips.
"Kim... You are not well. Rest, okay?" I urged, but he was stubborn. He continued to kiss me.
"I just want to assure myself that you are in love with me... and not tormenting me in my dream," he said with a mischievous smile. Kim... my mischievous boyfriend.
"Fine. But you know that I love you... and I will do anything to protect you and not harm you," I affirmed. He just continued to kiss me. Then he stopped, his mood dropping.
"Baby, what is it?" I asked, concerned.
"Promise me," he said, lifting his pinky finger. I did so, and we made a pinky promise. "You will still love me after learning the truth," he said, his eyes pleading.
I kissed his forehead. "I will always love you, Kim," I promised sincerely.
"I think I'm losing my mind... I overheard the doctor tell my dad that I have a brain tumor and inner depression..." he sobbed, the truth finally spilling out.
"I still love you the way you are. I will never give up on you," I said, holding him tight.
