It was a historic moment, for more than one reason. Unlike Vilhelm, or Nero, Ben did not maintain any kind of reputation of being unbeatable, or learning quickly, though he did both. His reputation was for being easy going and friendly, and being highly competent. A defeat or two would not lower his reputation in the slightest.
In fact, although he lost, the reverence he attracted only increased because of how remarkable his performance had been, as well as for honouring his word. Even Nero looked towards Ben filled with unquestionable respect. Even if he knew nothing else about the man, his fighting prowess alone was enough to convert Nero into a fan. He didn't even know where to begin if he were to train to fight Ben.
Nero had to accept the fact that without using his innate abilities, he had no chance of defeating Ben in a fight - an extreme rarity, at least for him.
