Chapter 149 - Chapter 148 The Fate Breaker.

"So, as I said before, Team Natsu will join the guild coalition against the Balam Alliance, currently aimed at Oración Seiss, who, according to the council, are trying to release a weapon known as Nirvana."

"What kind of weapon is Nirvana, Master?" Erza asked, as she was part of Team Natsu.

"The information is with Blue Pegasus currently. It was decided to limit intelligence leaks, so the information will only be revealed to others when they reach the designated site to battle the dark guild."

"All right, we're gonna kick their asses before they know it!" Natsu shouted, flames bursting from his fists.

"I hope nothing happens…" Lucy muttered fearfully from the side.

"And Cana, I would like you to go with them. From the few bits of information I was able to acquire through my connections, there is a member of their guild who is proficient in using poisons. Your skill in medicine and healing would be heavily needed there."

Cana nodded in response.

"What about Karna? I heard he wasn't on any missions right now," Gray commented from the side and immediately regretted it as he felt Cana's anger rising.

The entire guild slightly backed away from him, as they all knew Cana was really angry with Karna at the moment. Makarov immediately intervened to divert her wrath.

"From what I know, he is on a special mission elsewhere. But I have notified him about the predicament we are currently facing, and he has agreed to reach the designated spot."

Team Natsu nodded at that, trying their best to ignore Cana's mutterings, which included promises of pain lasting until death.

"All right, set out for victory!!" Makarov declared as he ushered them on.

They began their journey using a carriage borrowed from the city. It would provide transportation to the edge of the forest.

At that time, in the soul realm of dragons—

"Wendy has set out on her journey to join them. It seems the Exceed she is close with has been blessed with the ability to see into the future. Though how much of that future will remain the same is still a mystery," Grandine commented from the side.

"It will not work in any way, Grandine. For the foreseeable future, all divination—or any magic that deals with the future—will be inaccurate in many ways. After all these years trapped in Laxus's body, I sensed the presence of a fate breaker within young Karna," Raijin added.

"What does fate breaker mean?" Frostborn asked from the side.

"Ah, you died before you learned about them, didn't you?" Weisslogia commented. "Ask Grandine. She was considered an educator of the dragons growing up, even of those from other dragon clans."

"That's because none of you idiots bothered to teach your young ones even a little bit!" Grandine barked, to which Weisslogia flinched and tried his best to become invisible.

"So what are fate breakers?" Frostborn asked, turning toward Grandine.

Grandine sighed.

"Time has been one of the most elusive subjects in the world since ancient times. Even the scholars among dragons who spent centuries studying it were unable to reveal all of its secrets. Though they did manage to discover that time is somehow fixed, which is why oracles and people with divination can predict the future. And even when they predict it, certain events are hidden from their visions.

These hidden matters are what lead to the future happening. In a way, some people try to prevent the future—only to later discover that the steps they took to prevent it are what ultimately led to it."

"Doesn't that mean free will doesn't exist?" Frostborn asked in a worried tone.

"Well, there have been many debates about it. But after hearing all of them, I came to one realization—I took Igneel's advice on this one."

"What did he say?" Frostborn asked curiously.

"Just go to sleep and do what you have to do. If any idiot comes to you and says that you have no freedom, just beat the crap out of them and say you had the freedom to choose to beat them up! HAHAHAHA…" Igneel, who was lying down, laughed out loud as he said this, earning chuckles from the other dragons.

"But you still haven't told me about these fate breakers," Frostborn said, still confused.

Grandine continued.

"Well, remember what I told you about the scholar dragons who researched for centuries? They managed to find traces of anomalies that existed in the world—those who directly opposed the future shown by divination or any similar power. They had the ability to change the futures shown in visions and divinations. Unlike others who gets trapped when they know of their future, they use that knowledge to change it to whatever they want it to be. They were named fate breakers."

As she said this, a certain coldness filled the air, even bringing chills to Frostborn, who was supposed to be the dragon of cold itself. He also noticed that the dragons had all gone silent.

"Their information was recorded in ancient Draconic murals, which vanished in the annals of time, we only heard about it from the dragons who were considered old during our childhood—we were never able to see one in all the centuries we lived," Igneel said from the side, his voice stripped of all playfulness it usually had.

"As long as a fate breaker is alive, the world's destiny will bend toward them. They destroy destinies in their lifetimes—they can be good or bad. But that is all determined by the path they walk in the end. That's why Raijin mentioned that divination will be highly uncertain for the next two centuries or more, depending on how long the kid lives," Igneel said, standing up.

"What about the one recorded in the annals of Draconic—you called them again…?" Frostborn asked, curious.

The place grew even more silent. Frostborn felt like he had asked about a forbidden subject—something even the dragons who once ruled the world feared.

"According to the annals," Igneel said, "the last fate breaker destroyed half the world and turned the rest into ashes."
