Kayle had been kidnapped. There was no other explanation for her disappearance, Hazel thought to herself. But why did the Bullywugs take her and not kill her instead? Maybe they don't like eating raw flesh and want to cook her back at their hideout.
Hazel shook her head, realizing her thoughts were rather bizarre.
She had to make a crucial decision: abandon Kayle and move on, or track her and attempt to save her, even though it meant risking her life.
The former seemed more pleasant and easy, but it would mean abandoning Kayle to her death.
'Do I want to do that?' Hazel wondered.
Kayle had brought it on herself by not being careful. She was the one who said the forest was dangerous, yet she ran screaming, basically announcing she was prey. So her getting kidnapped was well-deserved. Hazel let out a weary sigh. Abandoning her seemed like an ideal choice, but it wasn't the one Hazel would take. She knew her conscience would bug her until she gave in and tried to find Kayle.
