The sun was shining as the Thousand Sunny sailed away from Zou, cutting smoothly through the sea.
After what Yuta could only call a heavy party, they were finally ready to depart. The entire group had split and gone their own ways.
A few went to Wano ahead of time to assess the situation and scout. Original residents of Wano, a few members of the Straw Hats, the entirety of the Heart Pirates, and some Mink Tribe members also went along.
The Whitebeard Pirates returned to their territory for the time being, to avoid drawing any more attention from suspecting parties.
And lastly, Yuta with Maki and a few members of the Straw Hats with Luffy were heading to Big Mom's territory to bring back Sanji.
Onboard were Yuta, Maki, Luffy, Nami, Brook, Chopper, and Pedro. Their goal was clear—head to Totto Land and bring Sanji back. And some might say the real reason, the unnecessary involvement of another Yonko and an addition of a few hundred episodes in the anime, was getting the print of the Poneglyphs in Big Mom's possession for Robin to read later.
"We're coming for you, Sanji!" Luffy, as always, shouted just before setting sail.
Nami sighed, already considering this a hopeless situation. No amount of beating could change Luffy in this regard.
"Let's hope we can do this without causing too much trouble."
Luffy turned with a grin.
Pedro stood near the mast, calmly checking the route. He had a past with Big Mom. Honestly, he didn't wish to go back, if it weren't for his heart telling him that the world tiles were shifting, that change was coming, and this was his part to act.
Maki leaned against the railing, enjoying the sea breeze. Just like Yuta, she was ignoring the nonsense happening around her.
Staying with the Whitebeard Pirates and spending time with Ace, who wasn't that different from Luffy in some ways, she was now long used to this.
It's strange how she'd been in this world for almost a year now and still couldn't get used to how different it sometimes was. And for better or worse, she started to like it.
Back home—well, calling it home never felt right to her. That wasn't her home. If anything, the Jujutsu Tech was more like home than anything else. She didn't have this feeling back there.
That world had nothing but tragedies for her. This, in comparison, was far better. For the first time, she felt peace. And this was all because...
She turned her head and looked at the boy who kept looking at his scarf with a solemn look.
She noticed that as well. Whenever he looked at that scarf, he became solemn. She never asked him in the one year she had been with him, training. Waiting for him to tell her on his own. But he never did.
She remembered Yuta never had this scarf before; she first saw it back when he fought Sukuna.
"Something related to her Grandma?" She couldn't help but wonder. She was his only family, so it made sense. She frowned seeing him solemn, just gazing at the distant horizon mindlessly.
Brook was playing a cheerful tune while Chopper ran around, making sure supplies were in order. But all this was lost on Yuta. He never participated in the traditional Straw Hat cheerful chaos.
Maki had waited for a year for him to get over whatever he was going through; she too needed time to mourn for her sister.
But she couldn't wait anymore. She wished to ask him.
"But perhaps not right now." She muttered at the solemn look on his face and sighed. Next time for sure.
Everything seemed peaceful.
Until...
Thump!
A strange noise came from the storage room below deck. Everyone paused.
"What was that?" Chopper asked, ears twitching.
They all looked at each other. Yuta, knowing the plot, seeing things from a god's perspective with minor changes all due to his existence, didn't bother acknowledging the intruder who had sneaked onboard the ship.
"I'll check."
He walked down and opened the storage door carefully. Inside, boxes were piled high... and in between them was someone hiding behind a sack of potatoes.
"Carrot!?"
Pedro blinked in surprise. And then his expression darkened.
Carrot popped her head out, giggling.
"Hiya! I've been here since we left!"
Chopper's jaw dropped. Nami nearly fell over, seeing the bunny girl munching on her carrot with an innocent face. This wasn't supposed to happen. But they couldn't turn the ship around now, could they?
"What are you doing here?! Pedro refused to let you come!" Nami shouted, already starting to have a headache.
Carrot pouted.
"That's why I snuck in. I really, really wanted to see the open sea and travel. Please take me." She pleaded.
Pedro marched over, glaring.
Seeing this, Carrot hurriedly looked around and her eyes locked on Yuta, who was pretty much ignoring everyone. They lit up and she rushed at him.
Yuta, not paying much attention to his surroundings, suddenly felt spider sense ringing out inside his mind and tensed up. He looked around immediately, Sharingan flaring.
It's just that he outright dismissed the flying Carrot, coming his way, as danger until he was knocked back, hitting his head on the railing and almost knocked out.
"YUTA...!"
"I'll be good! I can fight too! Please let me come!" Carrot wailed. Stars appeared in front of Yuta for him to understand what the girl was talking about though.
Luffy laughed.
"She's already here! Let her come!"
Brook chuckled.
"Yohohohoh... The more the merrier. Madam, may I ask what color is your..."
PAAT!
"No you don't." Nami shouted, and smoke emitted from her fist.
Pedro groaned but finally gave in.
"Fine. But you stay close and listen to what I say."
Carrot saluted with a big grin.
"Aye aye, Captain Pedro!"
"Fucking pirate world and its cartoonish logic." Yuta muttered with irritation, already using reverse curse technique to heal his might-be cracked head.
Extremely powerful he might be, but in terms of defense he was surprisingly like any normal human when his powers weren't actively protecting him.
The only kind of shield he had was Rika's Scarf, which didn't even activate unless the attack was really dangerous to the point it might seriously hurt him.
"Damn it... I have to be more proficient in Haki... fast."
And so the journey continued.
The Thousand Sunny sailed smoothly across the sea... for a while, that is. There were no enemies chasing them, no sea monsters, and no storms.
But even without danger, the journey was anything but peaceful. Why?
Because they had a disaster traveling with them. His name was Monkey D. Luffy.
The first disaster started in the kitchen.
With Sanji gone, someone had to cook. Chopper was no good and Nami planned to extort an extensive fee for her cooking skills on display. Brook was no good with food and the same was the case with the rest of the Mink Tribe's temporary partners.
So of course, Luffy jumped up.
"I'll do it! I've seen Sanji cook hundreds of times! How hard can it be?"
Everyone stared at him in horror as he proudly marched toward the kitchen.
"Wait—Luffy!" Nami yelled, but it was too late.
Luffy stormed into the kitchen, tied a towel on his head like a chef, and began throwing random things into a pot.
"Is that... toothpaste?!" Maki blinked, her sharp eyes catching it.
Yuta just saw the agent of chaos doing his job and secretly took out some food from his dimensional pouch and handed it over to Maki. Secretly enough that others didn't notice, and Maki too got the intention and kept her mouth shut.
Chopper almost fainted when Luffy proudly brought out the food an hour later.
"Try it! I call it 'Meat Surprise!'"
Brook took a bite and instantly collapsed.
"Yohoho... my second death...!"
"Sanji... please come back. I can't... I can't eat this." Chopper had big fat teardrops rolling down his cheeks as he wailed, not ready to accept his fate.
The kitchen was ruined. Smoke filled the ship. Somehow, Luffy had even managed to set part of the stove on fire. Nami screamed, Pedro ran for water, and Yuta just sat with his head in his hands.
He could help, yes. But he'd rather not. Messing with the plot is not right. He wouldn't do that. Definitely not...
This had nothing to do with the only source of entertainment he had being the misery of the Straw Hat Pirates. Not at all.
Later, Luffy decided to go fishing to make up for it. He threw in five fishing lines at once and somehow caught... a Sea King.
The giant creature dragged the ship in circles for hours until Carrot sliced the line.
And many more troubles followed after that. A very good way to keep oneself entertained. Maki too learned this early and became another NPC character. Only sees, does nothing.
