Mark Reed took out his laptop and quickly dove into work, his face serious and solemn, while Valentine Teller, sketching, kept looking up at him from time to time, as if searching his face for inspiration.
As she watched, without even realizing it, she left one clean, brisk line after another on the drawing paper.
A handsome face rapidly came alive on the page.
Valentine drew the final stroke and covered her mouth, laughing.
She was supposed to be drawing a design sketch, but ended up drawing his portrait instead; her heart was completely filled with him.
Signing her name in the corner, Valentine slid the sheet in front of Mark Reed, letting it float lightly down onto his laptop.
Mark Reed picked it up, delighted, and bragged shamelessly, "So this is how handsome I am, huh!"
"You wish!" Valentine snatched the portrait back, looked it over from left to right, and sighed. "Ugh, who did I draw? Cross-eyed, a hooked nose, a toad's mouth — could he be any uglier?"
