At the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Wu is meditating. He hears the ninja arguing in a separate room
"My turn! Uh, it's my turn!" Kai yells
"Oh, you want a little more? Take this!" Cole yells after.
"Yeah? How about a little of this?" Jay shouted next.
"Monkey paw to the head!" Kai shouted for some reason.
"Ninja, roll!" Cole shouted
Wu goes to the video game room only to find that none of the ninja are there.
"Dragon punch!" Wu here's Jay yell.
Wu goes to the training compound and is shocked to see that the ninja are actually training. Jay is deflecting arrows with his weapon, Cole is practicing on the dummies. Kai is practicing his Spinjitzu and Zane is meditating. Zane suddenly gets up from his meditation process and disturbs the other ninja. He starts by jumping in front of Jay. He steals Cole's weapon for the dummy test. His Spinjitzu freezes the whole compound, causing Kai to slip.
"Kai, Jay and Cole regroup."
"This roof isn't big enough for the four of us." Kai says
"Correction: This roof isn't big enough for him." Cole adds
"It's like he's in his own world." Jay says before beginning to raise his voice, "I bet he can't even hear us!"
Wu approaches the three disturbed ninja.
"Sensei, Zane's... weird." Kai complains
"What is weird? Someone who is different or someone who is different than you?" Wu says sneaking in wisdom.
"No. He's just a mental weirdo." Cole says.
Cole's flashback shows Zane entering the bathroom despite Cole doing some private business.
"Do you mind?!" Cole yells in embarrassment.
Jay's flashback shows him, Nya, and Zane watching a sad romantic movie. Zane starts laughing. Jay and Nya look angry.
Kai's flashback shows him going to the fridge, but he finds Zane inside
"Ahh! What the hell?" Kai shouts.
"I'm sorry. I consumed the last of the deli meat. Cheese?" Zame said holding up cheese.
"We like the guy. He's really smart. He's just... a little off sometimes." Kai says
"Zane is a brother and brothers are often different. I should know." Wu says.
The Postman arrives the Monastery with the ninja's mail.
"Mail!" The boys yell running to the door.
"Let's see. A letter from Jay's parents. Kai has a fan letter. Oh, something from Cole's father." The Postman says passing the mail.
"What, no package? I'm expecting something from Creatures, Beasts, and Beyond." Cole complains.
"No. Nothing from...uh-uh. Here it is!" He says handing Cole his package.
"Ha! Rocky's gonna love this!" Cole says excitedly.
Zane walked with a heavy heart, the weight of his past evident in his somber demeanor.
"Hey, Zane. How come you never hear anything from your parents?" Jay's curious inquiry broke the silence.
"I don't remember my parents. I've been an orphan all my life," Zane replied softly, his voice tinged with sadness.
"You mean you've never had a home?" Kai's voice was filled with sympathy as he processed Zane's revelation.
Zane simply shook his head, his expression reflecting a lifetime of longing for a place to call his own.
"The Monastery is your home now," Wu reassured him, his words offering a glimmer of solace amidst Zane's melancholy.
As Zane walked away, Cole tended to the Dragon cabinets, his attention focused on his beloved companion.
"Liver and toads, Rocky. Your favorite," Cole murmured affectionately as he fed his Dragon, a small gesture of companionship in a world filled with uncertainty.
Meanwhile, Skales observed Cole's actions with interest, sharing his discovery with Rattla, a fellow Hypnobrai scout.
"I can't believe you hypnotized one of the ninja. Does the General know?" Rattla questioned, his curiosity piqued.
"Of course not. He's been put under the control of Lloyd. But I plan to use it for my best interest," Skales replied, his eyes gleaming with ambition.
Their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of Slithraa, who wasted no time in reprimanding Skales for his apparent lack of diligence.
"Everyone works while you two slack. As my second-in-command, I expect more from you, Skales," Slithraa admonished, his tone stern.
Skales seized the opportunity to voice his concerns, questioning the wisdom of their current course of action.
"You know better than to question my judgement, Skales. I'll pretend you didn't ask," Slithraa retorted, his authority unchallenged.
Meanwhile, Lloyd's demands for additional security measures prompted Slithraa to acquiesce, much to Skales's displeasure.
"As you wish, young Garmadon," Slithraa acquiesced, his deference to Lloyd's wishes apparent.
Skales's discontent was palpable as he begrudgingly complied with Slithraa's orders, his loyalty to his leader tested by conflicting priorities.
Later, back at the Monastery, the ninja gathered at the dinner table, their banter lightening the mood after a long day.
"Hmm. Oh, I love it when it's Zane's night to cook," Jay remarked, his anticipation evident.
Cole interjected, defending his culinary skills from the previous night's criticism.
"Hey. I didn't hear any complaints about my duck chowder last night," Cole protested, his pride wounded.
"That's because it glued our mouths shut. You really thought Jay was speechless all throughout dinner?" Kai teased, eliciting laughter from the group.
"Yeah. Please don't make that again," Jay told him in a serious tone.
Zane enters the dining room wearing an apron while holding some turkey.
"Dinner is served." Zane announce Everyone starts laughing. "What's so funny?"
"Zane. You're wearing a... it's not even cute, I wouldn't even wear that." Nya says hold back more laughs.
"You laugh because I take steps to ensure I'm clean after cooking?" Zane says not understanding.
"Haha! No! We laugh because you came out wearing that ridiculous outfit!" Kai tells him.
"I guess we don't share the same sense of humor." Zane says still unsure of why it's so funny.
"Well, how about this?" Cole says as he throws a plate full of shrimp on Kai's face. Everyone except Zane laughs "How could you not find that funny?" Master Wu pours soup onto Cole's head.
"Now you are brothers." Wu tells Cole and Zane.A food fight erupts, but this still confuses Zane.
Later, Zane is shown to be taking out the trash when a Falcon appears on a nearby tree. The Falcon is copying every one of Zane's moves. It eventually flies. Zane decides to follow it. The Falcon leads him to Lloyd's treehouse fortress, heavily guarded by the Serpentine.
"If I see one girl in here. I'm gonna go ballistic." Lloyd shouts as hrs being carried.
"I'm a girl" Reaper reminds him.
"Well then, if I see a girl who is not my annoying little sister" Lloyd corrects.
"I'M ANNOYING?!" Reaper shouts.
The Falcon signifies Zane that he found what he needed to find. "Thank you, my mysterious friend." He tells the falcon.
The following day, Zane is shown to lead his team towards the fortress.
"I don't even think Zane knows where he's going." Kai says before turning to Zane, "Uh, tell us again how you stumbled upon Lloyd's secret headquarters."
"I followed a bird." Zane shared.
"Why did you follow a bird?" Jay asked
"Because it danced." Zane explained.
"Oh...okay. Was it a cuckoo bird?" Jay said as everyone except Zane laughs.
"Of course not. Everyone knows cuckoo birds are not indigenous to these forests." Zane informs. The ninja are stunned by the fact and follow Zane to the treehouse.
"Watch it! No, bigger! Come on, we don't have all day! It's not time for a lunch break." Lloyd complains.
"I wish this boy was on mute." Reaper says to herself.
"Well look at that, Frosty was right!" Cole said.
"We can't let that brat and those snakes get a foothold of Ninjago. We gotta destroy that thing before it becomes operational." Kai tells the team.
"Whoa! Are you sure? It looks like a pretty cool treehouse. There's a ropes course... Ooh, a tree swing!" Jay says impressed.
"Hey! Remember who's team you're on. Alright, guys. What do we do?" Cole says.
"It looks like the entire place is being supported by those three trees. Once those ties are severed, the whole is gonna fall like a house of cards." Kai explains.
"But why would one make a house of cards? Such construction would be careless." Zane says not understanding once again as Kai groans in frustration.
The ninja sneak up as Kai severs a rope and uses it to swing into the treehouse. Cole uses the elevator while Zane and Jay climb up a tree. Jay loses balance.
"Gotcha." Zane says as he grabs Jay.
The four ninja are now near Lloyd and his sister.
"It's almost finished. Soon, our fortress will be complete." Lloyd chuckles.
"You! Hold up that sign for me!" Reaper orders a Serpentine.
A Hypnobrai soldier holds up a sign that says 'No girls or ninja.' Lloyd & Reaper tests a booby trap on him to see if it works. It works and sends the soldier crashing to the floor.
"Booby trap!" The two siblings yell.
"Wow, that's actually really fun." Reaper admits
"Told ya!" Her brother says.
The ninja get to the top of the treehouse and reach for the poles. Jay uses Spinjitzu to sever the first rope.Then Zane uses Spinjitzu to sever the second rope.
The tree house stumbles and sends everyone off flying to the ground. Upon looking for the reason why the treehouse stumbled, Lloyd spots Kai on top of the treehouse.
"We said no ninja! Attack!" Lloyd orders
"Everyone! Retreat!" Skales says ignoring the order. The Hypnobrai start leaving the treehouse.
"Cole! Wait till we're off the treehouse, then cut the line." Kai warns before Cole nods in agreement.
Skales points at Cole, "You! You will obey my every command." He says as he takes control of Cole
"I will obey your every command." Cole repeats, now under Skales command.
"Where's Cole?" Jay asks in concern as the treehouse comes down.
"No one goes anywhere until you deal with me!" Cole says hopping infront of them.
"What's your issue, Cole?" Kai asks annoyed.
"He's under their control." Zane tells them.
"Yeah, well he better snap out of it quick because this whole place looks like it's about to go down!" Jay shouts
"Don't go. We have to protect my treehouse fortress." Lloyd pleads
"Your treehouse? It's about time we did this!" Skales responds
"Do what?" Reaper asks unimpressed before Skales uses one of Lloyd & Reaper's boobytraps to trap Lloyd and his sister in a cage.
"Now, to get the staff!" Skales orders
Cole still has the ninja cornered.
"Okay, now come on. Friends don't hit friends." Just as Jay says that Cole kicks Jay on the jaw. "Ow, okay. I-I-I-I'm gonna ignore that."
"What're we supposed to do? If I use my Sword, this place will turn up into flames faster than a tinder box." Kai says
"Isn't the anti venom in the staff?" Zane remembers.
"Yeah, but the staff is back at the Monastery." Jay reminds him.
Cole knocks Kai off the top, but Zane saves him.
"Jay! Use your Lightning! Try to shock him out of his trance!" Zane orders
"Oh, sorry, Cole, but this is gonna hurt you a lot more than it's gonna hurt me." Jay warns him before he shocks Cole, but only making him angrier. Cole knocks Jay off of the treehouse. Jay manages to catch one of the ropes, but the treehouse continues to collapse. "That is a serious safety hazard!"
Cole goes on to try and sever the last rope with his teammates still on the rooftop.
"No, Cole! Don't!" Kai yells
Cole suddenly snaps out of the trance when the Sacred Flute is being played by Wu as he and Nya go collect the ninja using Flame.
"Huh? Where-where am I? What are we doing?" Cole asks confused
"We're getting outta here because this whole place is coming down!" Nya says before Cole hops on the Dragon. Kai, Jay, and Zane follow suit.
"That flute!" Kai says amazed
"It cancels their powers!" Jay adds
"It's as old as the Serpentine themselves. But we must hurry! The Monastery is unguarded! Quickly!" Wu sayd
By the time the ninja return to the Monastery, it bursts into flames.
"We're too late. Those snakes." Kai says heartbroken.The other three Dragons cry for help.
"Rocky!" Cole shouts as he quickly releases the Dragons to gain some fresh air.
"Our home." Kai says saddened
"Shard! Put this out!" Zane ordered. Shard freezes the burning flames. "The training equipment, gone."
"Our video games, gone!" Jay shouts
"They stole their staff back." Wu realizes
"What do we do now?" Cole asks
Kai's sorrow quickly turns to anger as he turns to Zane. "If you hadn't followed that silly bird, none of this would've happened!"
"Kai..." Wu tries to reason.
"No! Sensei, he's right." Jay then turns to Zane. "Because of you, my high score has been deleted!"
"This is a teaching moment. We must learn from this." Zane tries to reason.
"A teaching moment? What's wrong with you? Don't you get it? Everything is gone!" Cole yells I'm anger.
"Enough! We're all at fault. Zane is your brother. Apologize at once." Wu orders them.
The three ninja change emotion and turn around to apologize to Zane. "I'm sorry, Zane. I..." Kai begins before realizing Zane has disappeared.
"Zane?" Jay asks
Zane is shown flying on his Dragon.
Meanwhile, Lloyd and the Hypnobrai return to the Hypnobrai Tomb with Lloyd tied up.
"Can't you do something General?" Reaper asks
"You're still under our command, right?" Lloyd questions
"Enough!" Slithraa yells "I am the General! You will return my staff at once!"
"No."
"You dare challenge my command, Skales?!" Slithraa shouted in anger.
"Slither Pit! Slither Pit! Slither Pit! Slither Pit!" The Hypnobrai chant.
"I guess we'll have to fight for it... in the Slither Pit!" Skales challenge.
The Hypnobrai cheer as Skales and Slithraa prepare for the fight.
"Winner gets the staff and leads the tribe! You know the rules. There are none, but in the Slither Pit, whatever I say goes. Alright, fight!" Mezmo explains.
The fight is evenly fair on the first round. Lloyd spots a map and plans to take it without any of the Serpentine noticing.
"Two weapons!" Mezmo lowers a weapons rack containing weapons made of ice. Slithraa takes a pick-axe and a shield while Skales takes two katanas. Slithraa throws the pick-axe at Skales, but Skales dodges it. "Side winder!" The arena is tilted and the two snakes start sliding. Lloyd manages to steal the map.
"Go, General! Go!" Lloyd cheers.
Slithraa tries to hypnotise Skales, but Skales kicks him to stop the hypnosis. Skales then does a move that dizzies Slithraa and then kicks him on the ground.
"He used Fang-Kwon-Do!" Someone yells
"Get up! Get up!" Lloyd says worried. Slithraa doesn't get up, giving the victory to Skales.
"We have a winner!" Mezmo announces
Skales gains a tail and General markings while Slithraa degrades to Warrior markings and his tail is replaced with legs.
"Skales! Skales! Skales! Skales! Skales! Skales! Skales! Skales!" The snakes chant.
"You will be loyal to me now!" Skales tell him
"I will do as you command." Slithraa obeyes
"You Two! Leave and never return!" Skales orders the two children as they both gasps in response.
The ninja are sitting on the Mountains of Impossible Height, trying to gain their spirits.
"Wh-what are we eating again?" Kai says in disgusts
"Mud newt. Not bad for something that lives underground." Cole awnsers.
"What?" He spits out the piece he was eating before throwing away his portion. He then throws a rock into a can. "Yeah! A new high s-sc-score!"
"Remember, we must be thankful for what we still have." Wu tries to remind them.
"What do we have? Our home is gone." Cole says
"You know, I don't miss our home. What I really miss is Zane." Kai admits
"Yeah. I miss Zane." Jay adds
"Zane?" Nya says looking behind everyone
"Yeah, Zane. You know. White Ninja. The smart, strange one." Jay explains
"No." Nya turns Jay around to see, "Zane!"
"Zane!" They all shout as they run to Zane
"Zane. We're so sorry for everything we've said. We're a team and that means we're all responsible." Jay apologize
"You don't need to apologize to me." Zane assures
"But what about all those awful things we said? Isn't that why you left?" Kai asks
"Of course not. I saw the Falcon again and I followed him." Zane explains.
"That's our Zane." Cole smiles
"We're happy to have you back." Nya says
"Why? Is it my turn to make dinner?" Zane jokes
"Yes, Zane. We would love for you to make dinner." Wu says
"But I already made it. Come. I want to show you what I've found. I think you will all be pleased." They all follow Zane to the Sea of Sand.
"I can't explain it, but I feel a strange connection with the Falcon. I think he's trying to help show us the path we need to take." Zane tells them as he shows them the Destiny's Bounty. "Our new home."
"Do I smell pie?" Jay says happily
"Cobbler berry. Oh, and I made myrtle berry and apple and—" Zane tells them as Kai, Jay, Cole and Nya race to the Bounty.
Wu rest his hand on Zane's shoulder "I'm proud of you, Zane. One day, I promise. We will find your family."
"But I've already found them."
"I feel there's more to you than meets the eye. There's something special about you, Zane."
"Sensei, will I become the Green Ninja?" Zane asks
"It's too early to tell, but if it's in your path, you'll know. Come now. It would be a shame to let them to eat all that pie." Wu tells him as he, Nya, and the ninja enjoying dinner and another food fight while Lloyd having been exiled by the Hybnobrai with his sister is wondering about aimlessly by himself. But his sister gives him a hug.
"We'll get our family back." Reaper assures him as Lloyd smiles.
