Huo Er bowed his head, sitting in the chair. "My punishment has been handed down. Mr. Chen has ordered me to take off this uniform and retire from the military."
Fu Dongliu's eyes widened in shock. "What? That serious?"
Huo Er nodded. He was, after all, just a young man in his twenties. His reddened eyes made him look pitiful.
Fu Dongliu didn't know what to say. He thought of his own situation—if Huo Er was being discharged, what about him? He likely wouldn't fare much better.
He quietly ate two spoonfuls of steamed egg before asking Huo Er, "Want some?"
Huo Er shook his head.
Fu Dongliu finished the rest in silence and put down his spoon. He then asked Huo Er, "Do you regret it?"
Huo Er shook his head. "No regrets."
Even knowing he would soon leave the military, the place he was most familiar with and loved, he still didn't regret his actions.
