[Third Person Pov]
"Seven days and seven nights," Artemis recounted, her expression grim, silver eyes distant as if she were still standing on that shattered battlefield. "That is how long the battle between Lucian and Atlas lasted."
"What?!" The majority of the group exclaimed as one, voices overlapping in disbelief. Some leaned forward; others simply stared.
"Now hold up," Markus said, brows furrowed deeply. "Something isn't making sense. The time Lucian left and the time you appeared back in camp don't match at all. There's no way their fight could have stretched that long."
Annabeth answered before Artemis could. "Time and space are relative," she said carefully, taking it upon herself to explain. "Lady Artemis told us that Lucian began using space wards. When you stretch space itself, time stretches with it. It's a natural side-effect. The more violently you warp the fabric between two points, the more the hours and days inside that space begin to slip out of alignment with the world outside."
Markus exhaled slowly, still looking a little lost. "I… suppose that makes sense." He didn't dig further. The explanation was enough to quiet the immediate confusion, though the weight of what it implied settled heavily over the group.
They all turned back to Artemis.
The goddess continued, one hand absently stroking the thick mane of the great white stag that stood beside her. "With a single gesture of his hand, Lucian tore open the earth. Earthquakes ripped deep ravines across the plain. Lava surged up through the cracks like blood from an open wound. And then he shaped it. He transformed the molten rock into golems and monsters—towering things of fire and stone that moved as though they had been dragged straight out of the Underworld itself."
Every word painted the scene more clearly in their minds. They could almost feel the heat, hear the grinding of stone, smell the sulfur and scorched air.
---
Atlas swung his staff in a wide, brutal arc. The creatures of magma were cleaved cleanly in half. Viscous liquid sprayed outward in hissing arcs, striking the ground and stone with wet, angry sizzles. The Titan did not pause. He advanced through the rain of molten rock as though it were nothing more than rain.
His steps faltered only once.
High above, the full moon hung like a silver coin in the black sky. Artemis drew her bowstring to her cheek. Divine energy gathered along the arrow's shaft until the weapon itself seemed to burn with cold light. She released.
The arrow crossed the distance in a heartbeat.
It struck Atlas square in the chest with the force of a falling star. The Titan was driven backward several heavy steps. Even as he twisted at the last instant, the divine missile scored a deep, glowing line across his side. Black ichor welled up and smoked where it touched the air.
Atlas snarled. He pivoted hard and hurled his javelin with terrifying precision.
The weapon streaked through the air, punching straight through a formation of shadow-raven Lucian had summoned as a ride for the goddess. Artemis tried to step aside, but the javelin's path was too true. It pierced through her side, exiting the other end. A sharp cry tore from her throat as she staggered and fell.
Lucian's hand snapped toward her. From the cracked earth rose a dense, towering bed of luminous white flowers—soft, thick, and strangely resilient. They caught the goddess as she dropped, cushioning her fall and absorbing the worst of the impact.
That single moment of distraction was all Atlas needed.
The Titan closed the distance in three long strides and drove a sharp, rising hook toward Lucian's jaw. Lucian tilted his head at the last possible instant—instinct and foresight working as one. The blow still clipped the edge of his cheek, hard enough to snap his head sideways.
Atlas did not relent.
He fought with a specialized style forged for Titans: a brutal fusion of boxing, taekwondo, Muay Thai, and wrestling, refined over millennia into something uniquely his own. Fists and knees came in relentless waves—fast, heavy, and precise. Every strike carried the weight of mountains. Even Lucian, for all his skill, found himself struggling to keep the pace.
He managed to catch one punch on his forearm. Atlas answered instantly with a knee that smashed into Lucian's ribs. The impact dented the armor plates and drove the air from Lucian's lungs in a sharp grunt. The force behind the blow bordered on the metaphysical; it rattled bone and spirit alike.
Atlas seized both of Lucian's arms, yanked him forward, and drove his forehead into Lucian's with a sickening crack. Lucian staggered backward, vision swimming—only to meet a spinning roundhouse kick aimed at his temple.
Lucian raised a tall shield of packed earth in the same breath. The kick shattered it like glass. Still, Lucian flowed with the residual force, spinning into a tight pirouette that carried him inside Atlas's guard. He locked his legs around the Titan's neck in a cross-scissor takedown, twisted hard, and wrenched. There was a wet, grinding pop as Atlas's arm was forced from its socket.
The Titan roared—raw, furious, almost animal. Tears of pain prickled at the corners of his eyes as he arched his back on the ground.
Both combatants rose almost at the same moment.
This time Atlas was forced onto the defensive. His eyes narrowed as he watched Lucian settle into a stance that mirrored his own earlier style—imperfect, still rough around the edges, yet unmistakably his. The Titan's expression shifted from rage to something colder, more calculating.
The battle was far from over.
Atlas gritted his teeth, seized his own dislocated arm by the wrist, and drove the elbow upward just in time to intercept Lucian's lightning-fast jab. The force of the strike slammed the bone back into its socket with a wet, audible pop. Using the sudden restoration of mobility, Atlas lunged forward and drove his shoulder into Lucian's chest like a battering ram. The impact cracked the breastplate in a spiderweb of fractures, forced the air from Lucian's lungs in a sharp, involuntary gasp, and sent him skidding backward across the broken earth.
Lucian staggered, then laughed—loud, bright, and completely unashamed.
"Dude! That was such a sick counter!" he shouted, eyes wide with genuine exhilaration. He wiped blood from the corner of his mouth with his tongue and grinned as though he had just witnessed something beautiful rather than nearly being crushed.
Atlas only huffed, rolling both shoulders until the joints settled with heavy clicks. Then he charged again.
The longer the fight continued, the more familiar Lucian became with the Titan's unique style—its rhythms, its traps, its sudden shifts from boxing to brutal clinch work. But that growing understanding came at a steep price. Piece by piece his armor was torn away. The cracked chestplate went first, ripped free by a vicious uppercut. Then the thigh guards, shredded by a sweeping low kick. Shoulder pads followed, crushed under hammering elbows. By the time the two combatants briefly separated, Lucian stood in little more than gauntlets, greaves, and a battered helmet, his body marked with bruises and shallow cuts that leaked bright mortal blood.
He slammed a boot against the ground. Stone and packed earth surged upward, forming a wide, elevated platform the size of a wrestling ring. In the same motion Lucian closed the distance, seized Atlas around the waist, and drove him hard into the newly created floor. The Titan hit with a thunderous crash, yet recovered almost instantly. A heavy punch smashed into Lucian's ribs and knocked him rolling away.
Lucian bounced back to his feet and launched himself forward with an over-the-shoulder strike. Atlas pivoted smoothly once hit and met him with a sharp midsection kick that sent Lucian flying backward through the air. At the edge of the platform, thick ropes of living vines erupted from the stone, catching Lucian mid-flight and slingshotting him forward like an arrow released from a bow.
He dropped into a flying dropkick that drove Atlas into the opposite set of vine-ropes. The living cords stretched taut, then snapped back, hurling the Titan straight into Lucian's path. Lucian met him with a full-speed clothesline that dropped Atlas hard onto his back, momentarily dazed.
Without hesitation Lucian flipped to the corner of the platform, planted one foot on the top vine-rope, and launched himself into an elegant backflip. He came down with a single knee charged with dense vibrational force and focused density. The impact was catastrophic. The entire stage shattered beneath them in an explosion of rock and dust. Atlas was driven deep into the resulting crater, a mountain of rubble collapsing over him. For the first time, gold ichor spilled from the Titan's mouth.
Lucian stood atop the debris, chest heaving, eyes blazing.
"HAHAHA! I, LUCIAN BLACKHEART, HAVE DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE ONCE AGAIN!" he roared, voice carrying across the ruined plain. "I'VE MADE A TITAN BLEED!"
He plunged both hands into the rubble, hauled Atlas up by the collar, and held the ancient being aloft like a trophy.
Atlas was unfazed. The only true wound was to his pride.
With a contemptuous swipe he knocked Lucian's arms aside, leaving the demigod completely open. Then he brought both massive fists together in a simultaneous strike against Lucian's jaw. The mask shattered. The hinges of the jaw itself gave way with a sickening crack. Lucian's lower jaw was forced unnaturally downward, skin stretching, the bone hanging loose against his chest. Blood poured freely.
"That should shut you up once and for all," Atlas sneered, a wide, cruel smile spreading across his face as he watched Lucian sway, disoriented and silent at last.
Lucian's vision swam. The world tilted. Yet his will refused to break. The ground beneath them trembled. Thick roots exploded upward, slamming into Atlas and knocking him several paces back. More vines and roots coiled around Lucian's legs and arms, sinking into his flesh. Vitality flooded into him—raw, green, living power. Bruises faded. Deep cuts sealed. With a wet snap and the grinding of bone, his jaw forced itself back into place.
Atlas landed near his discarded javelin. He snatched it up without hesitation and hurled it with all his strength straight at Lucian's chest.
"Lucian!" Artemis cried out from the edge of the battlefield. She loosed a rapid volley of silver arrows, but Atlas was already moving—too fast, too close.
The javelin struck true.
Lucian's body jolted violently. He looked down in stunned silence at the weapon buried deep in his chest. Bright blood welled around the shaft and spilled from his mouth in a thick stream.
Atlas charged without hesitation. He seized the shaft of the javelin still buried in Lucian's chest and drove it deeper with both hands, the force ripping Lucian free from the living vines that had been feeding him vitality. The Titan carried him forward like a battering ram and slammed him hard against a sheer cliff face that had been torn open during their earlier exchange. Stone cracked behind Lucian's back. The javelin punched through muscle and bone until its tip scraped against the rock, pinning him in place like an insect on a board.
Atlas twisted the weapon savagely.
Lucian's scream tore from his throat—raw, high, and full of agony. Fresh blood welled around the shaft and ran in thick rivers down the metal, soaking Atlas's hands. The Titan chuckled, a low, rasping sound that carried both satisfaction and contempt.
Lucian's head hung forward. Through the curtain of matted, blood-soaked hair, his lips began to move. Soft words slipped out, almost too quiet to catch.
"What?" Atlas demanded, leaning closer, eyes narrowing. "What are you saying?!"
The answer came in a voice that no longer sounded entirely human.
"I am the forge beneath the world…"
A sudden, oppressive wave of magic radiated outward from Lucian's body. Atlas's eyes widened. Far across the battlefield Artemis froze mid-step, every instinct screaming danger.
Atlas tried to wrench the javelin free. Lucian's free hand clamped around the shaft with terrifying strength, holding it locked in place.
"Darkness is my body… curses and fire my blood and tears…"
Panic flickered across the Titan's face. He drew back a fist and smashed it into Lucian's face again and again, driving the demigod's head against the cliff. Bone cracked. Blood sprayed. Still the chant continued, unbroken.
"I have created over a thousand instruments of war…"
"Shut! Up!!" Atlas roared, pulling his arm back for another crushing blow.
Lucian met the incoming fist with a full-force headbutt. The collision produced a visible shockwave that rippled the air and staggered the Titan. When Lucian lifted his head, glowing crimson eyes burned through the blood and shadow that now clung to his form.
"Each thirsts for battle the moment they are born." He grinned, teeth painted red.
"My hands blister under endless labor… yet glory belongs only to those who swing the blade."
Something vast and tyrannical erupted from Lucian's back—raw magical force so dense it blasted Atlas several meters away. The air itself seemed to catch fire. A pillar of searing power roared upward from Lucian's body. Shadow swallowed him completely until only those two burning red eyes remained visible in the darkness.
With deliberate, almost reverent slowness, Lucian reached up and drew the javelin free from his solar plexus. Lines of glowing circuitry raced along the weapon's length as it left his flesh. Blood poured freely, yet he no longer seemed to feel it.
His shadowed silhouette tilted its head. A wide, delighted smile split the darkness, revealing a flash of teeth.
"Thus I pray…"
The words rolled out like a declaration of war.
"Unlimited Blade Works."
Reality tore open.
An entire domain unfolded across the battlefield in a single heartbeat—an endless, boundless plain beneath a sky the color of rusted iron. Thousands upon thousands of weapons jutted from the barren earth at every angle: swords, spears, axes, polearms, blades of every shape and era, each one planted like a grave marker in an infinite cemetery of war.
At the very center of that desolate field stood Lucian Blackheart.
He threw his head back and laughed—loud, wild, and full of pure, unrestrained delight. The sound rolled across the domain and beyond it, sending a cold shiver through every living soul who heard it.
