Chapter 2 - II. Quasar

Heavy winds buffeted around me as I steadied myself in the shifting, luminescent blue sand. My pearlescent horns felt like they would get ripped off by the tempest swirling around me.

For miles, all I could see was the same blue sand. The winds were racing too fast for me to take a second to figure out where I was. The only things I had on me (other than my clothes) were a pair of bladed chakrams attached to my back that glowed with an ethereal power.

I grabbed them both from the strap and gripped them tightly, I was going to need both if the slithering shape coming at me through the sand was any indication.

Both my feet dug into the sand to cement me in place. I hunkered down, preparing myself for whatever was coming at me. Who knew what kind of nonsense would be thrown at me right after I woke up in this place?

A large serpentine figure burst out from the sand, dark green scales glimmering under the light of the…two moons? Two large bioluminescent frills came out on either side of its dragon-like head that lit its face in an eerie green light.

The serpent opened up its maw and I could see a crackling lightning building in its throat. I took half a step back before launching one of the chakrams into its mouth. Despite the violent winds, the disc flew straight and true and lodged itself in the back of its throat.

Orange blood dripped lethargically from the wound, falling to the ground and creating contrasting rivulets in the sand. It let out a wounded yowl and whipped its spiked tail at me. A few of the spikes grazed my bare legs and deep purple blood that looked like an endless abyss started to seep out.

I winced but took a few steps back to get out of range. The serpent coughed out my chakram onto the sand along with a large splatter of blood. The glow around the disc consolidated into a thread that attached to my palm. With one quick tug, the chakram was right back in my hand. The disc was bladed all the way around so a small line of blood leaked out from where I caught it.

The blood seeped into grooves along the chakram's edge and the glow around it intensified. The sand around me blew in a large cloud that blocked my vision of the serpent.

After the sand settled, I could see that all trace of the serpent was long gone. Even the brown stain on the sand was blown away in the storm.
