Chapter 508 - Ch 534 - Ginny, want some Meat?

Lucifer slammed his toast down on the table with an angry, "Fuck!" and went after her, leaving the table of spectators agog.

"Oh no! My bread----"

Ginny got up as fast as she could, handed her own toast to Ron, then dashed toward the door, red hair flying behind her.

"Where are you going?" Harry asked.

Ginny turned back to them at the door. "I've never seen Lucifer apologize. No way am I missing it."

Everyone at the table tittered at Ginny's answer, but then Tonks jumped up and pushed her own bread into Lupin's palm.

"She's right. I might never get the chance to see this again," she explained and was out the door.

The remaining men looked at the swinging door for a couple of seconds then Harry and Ron gave each other a "why not" shrug and bounded out of their chairs.

"It might just be thing I need to calm down before leaving for Ministry...." Harry was out to enjoy.

Alone at the table, Remus looked at half eaten bread in his palm that Tonks gave.

"They left us," Lupin told the food which seemed angry, nonetheless he ate it and left to see the show.

He found them all huddled around the widow that overlooked the back garden. "What'd I miss?"

Tonks yanked him closer so he could see. "Hermione's crying. Lucifer's talking to her."

"Shh!" everyone chorused.

Lupin looked out at the overgrown, and rather crispy, brown garden.

Hermione stood at the edge of the brick patio, glaring out at the dead plants, her back to Lucifer, hands folded into her armpits.

Lucifer held her shoulders as he calmly addressed the back of her head.

They could hear the rumble of his voice but couldn't make out his words.

Hermione shook her head, disagreeing with whatever he'd said.

They could hear her higher-pitched voice through the glass. "I don't care. Even if you only meant for Harry and Ron to hear, that's horrible!"

All of the onlookers were very confused by this.

Lucifer said something, and everyone leaned in, straining to hear.

He turned her around and tried to pry her hands from under her arms.

"NO!" she shouted. "I don't want to hit you again."

Ron squinted. "Did she say . . . ?"

"Shh!" everyone hissed.

Lucifer wrapped his arms around her and said something else.

"I might," Hermione answered.

Lucifer smirked and slid his hands down to cup her bum.

"Eugh!" Ron said, making a face. "I hope she does hit him."

"Shh!" they all said through their snickers.

Hermione looked up at his face and said something so quietly they couldn't hear.

Lucifer's head shook no, and he put his hands around her face, wiping off her tears with the edges of his thumbs.

He kissed her forehead, and they saw his lips moving as he whispered.

"I never would have believed it," Tonks muttered to Remus, who didn't look away from the window.

"He said it," Ginny whispered.

Harry narrowed his eyes. "What? How can you tell?"

"I just know. Look at her."

Hermione pulled her hands from her armpits and put them on Lucifer's chest. "You'd better make this up to me."

He obviously asked her how.

Her hands tightened around his shirt. "Apologize to them."

"No."

They didn't need to guess that time.

"Please, Lucifer."

"No. I don't care what they think, and you shouldn't either!"

"You won't do this one thing for me?" she asked so quietly they almost missed it.

Lucifer looked furious for a minute then his lips pulled back in a feral sneer. "Fine."

Hermione's face softened, and she stroked his cheek. "Thank you."

He growled something at her, and she nodded.

Her hand slipped into his, and they started back toward the door.

"Go go go!" Ginny whispered. "They're coming back."

They sprinted back to the kitchen and were all sitting around the table, trying to catch their breath, when heard approaching footsteps.

The couple entered hand in hand, Hermione looking embarrassed and Lucifer looking lethal.

Everyone tried to appear unaware of what had just transpired between the two.

"Hermione has requested that I make amends. I think it unnecessary," Lucifer said through clenched teeth," but in the interest of maintaining the peace, I . . . apologize."

"I'll be damned," Tonks muttered.

Lupin couldn't hold back a smirk.

"Well, uh . . ." Harry stuttered, giving Hermione an impressed look. "That's all right. Thanks?"

Lucifer rolled his eyes, then picked up his apple and started to leave, his intention of asking Molly to cut hair be damned.

Hermione squeezed his hand. "Please don't go."

He gave her a long look, sighed, and went to the other end of the kitchen table, where no one was sitting.

Hermione followed him over and kissed his forehead.

"Thank you, Lucifer," she whispered.

His black eyes glared around the table, daring anyone to comment.

No one said anything, except Molly looking at Hermione with an incredible face, as if she was just slapped.

Hermione slipped her arm around Lucifer's neck and sat in his lap, resting her head on his shoulder.

It was too hard to meet anyone's eye after what they'd heard.

Her stomach growled loudly, and Lucifer raised his eyebrow at her and held out his apple.

She smiled at him.

"I'll make you a sandwich, Hermione," Ginny offered. "Don't get up."

Hermione gave her a grateful look. "How about two . . . or three."

Ginny laughed and got out the bread. "What do you want, beef or peanut butter?"

"Meat."

Harry snorted into his hand. "I'll help you, Ginny." at least mood was now quite bright, he could provide help to show gratitude.

Hermione watched Harry and Ginny lay out the bread and then get the roast beef.

Her mouth watered; she could practically taste it already.

"We've got some tomatoes and lettuce too," Ginny said, digging around.

"Merlin, yes," Hermione said with a groan of pleasure.

"You want a sandwich, Lucifer?" Ginny asked.

"• •" Molly was watching with big eyes, especially Ginny and Harry with a blank look.

Lucifer was surprised she'd offered. "That sounds nice," he said carefully.

"Lay out some more bread, Harry."

"How much more?"

"How many you want?" she asked Lucifer.

"Two, I suppose." No one ever made him anything (not counting the school elves.)

"Anybody else want some?" Ginny asked.

"I could eat," Ron said.

"Me too," Harry said with a small grin.

"Well, bollocks to this," said Ginny, dropping the bread. "Why don't we just eat dinner?"

"Ginny, mind your language!"

Lupin turned back to Tonks, "What were you saying about Scrimgeour?"

"Oh... yeah... well, we need to be a bit more careful, he's been asking Kingsley and me funny questions," she said.

Lucifer had to resist the urge to correct her grammar.

Hermione slipped out of Lucifer's lap onto the chair next to him and shoved a roll in her mouth.

It tasted like yeasty heaven. "Oh my God! This is so good."

Harry laughed and sat at the table where he'd been before. "Yeah, it's as good as Hogwarts. I had a lot of practice at Dursley's."

Atmosphere suddenly turned dark.

Lucifer's hand found Hermione's knee under the table.

She smiled at him and ate with her left hand so she could touch him back

"The hearing's on my floor, in Amelia Bones' office," he refocused on the conversation and heard Arthur say to Harry, "She's the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and she'll be the one questioning you."

"Amelia Bones is okay, Harry," Tonks said, "She's fair, she'll hear you out."

Harry just nodded blankly, his anxiety coming back.

"Don't lose your temper," Sirius said abruptly, "Be polite, stick to the facts, and be cool about it."

Harry nodded again.

"The Law is on your side," Lupin said quietly, "even underage Witches and Wizards are allowed to use magic in life-threatening situations."

"Doesn't it ever lie flat!?" Lucifer heard Molly ask.

He turned to look and saw that she was trying to comb Harry's hair down.

Harry shook his head, flinging a bit of water from the comb everywhere.

"I think we'll go, now," Arthur said after checking his watch, "We're a bit early, but I think you'll be better off there than hanging around here."

"Okay," Harry said, dropping his half-eaten toast onto the plate and standing to his feet.

"You'll be alright, Harry," Tonks said.

"Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine," Lupin said with a smile.

"And if it's not," Sirius said in a grim tone, "I'll see to Amelia Bones for you..."

Harry smiled weakly and looked at Lucifer, who is currently wiping some pieces off Hermione's mouth, "See you when you're off the hook."

Harry nodded and went to leave with Arthur, but not before Molly hugged him, "We've all got our fingers crossed."

"Right... well, guess I'm off..." Harry smiled meekly and walked with Arthur out of the kitchen.
