A week passed, and it was closing in on Harry's Birthday.
Lucifer had written to him at least a couple of times every day, just to make sure he was okay. However, he hadn't heard from Harry today.
He was busy at Lux when it was time that Harry usually sent Hedwig to tell him that he was still being treated well, pushing himself away from the table, Lucifer went over to the open Balcony, and there wasn't a single Owl in sight.
That settled that, he walked over to the fireplace, "I haven't heard from Harry, and before you say it, Hedwig has arrived at precisely 9:53 every morning. Something is wrong..."
"If you believe, then you should make sure that it isn't just a bad feeling. Please make sure your friend is alright," Makima encouraged while closing the tip of her writing pen.
"Right, next stop, 4 Privet Drive," Lucifer said and he Apparated to the Dursley residence. He had only been in the living room of their House, so it was the only choice he could go to, he appeared in the middle of the room, where Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley were watching the TV.
"YOU! GET OUT! GET OU---" The rest of Vernon's words dissolved into nothing as his mouth moved, but no sound came from it.
"Where's Harry?" Lucifer asked Petunia, who shakily pointed to the stairs, indicating he was up in his room. He didn't un-silence Vernon as he walked up the stairs, walked down the hall, turning handle to each door until one of them didn't turn. He pointed his finger at it, the glow of his eyes reflecting on the doorknob, "Alohomora."
The lock clicked open and he turned the handle, walking into the room, "Harry, is everything okay?"
"Lucifer!? Did Hedwig already arrive with her letter?" Harry asked him.
"Huh? No, she didn't show up, that's why I'm here. I was afraid something had happened..." Lucifer said, trailing off as the look on Harry's face indicated some 'did' happen, "Now what....?"
Harry then explained his ordeal of yesterday, making sure to not leave out any crucial detail. He included how his neighbor, Mrs. Figg, was a Squib tasked with watching him since he was left with his relatives, and a Wizard named, Mundungus Fletcher, was supposed to be watching at the time when a Dementor appeared.
He also mentioned to Lucifer about his Patronus, and that it took the form of a Stag. "First of all, that's pretty fucking awesome you cast a Corporeal Patronus. But a 'Dementor?' What the fuck was it doing in Little Whinging?"
It also occurred to Lucifer that if Dumbledore had someone watching Harry since he was left at 'Privet Drive', then he knew how Harry was treated this way his whole life, 'And he still kept him here... you bastard, forget the world-class protection, at least he should have paid to what's going inside....'
"I don't know... I also got three letters. Technically all from the Ministry, but one of them was from Ron's dad," Harry said, handing each letter to Lucifer in the order they came in, who sat in silence as he read each letter on the edge of the boy's bed.
The Ministry could detect him using a Patronus but couldn't tell there were two Dementors nearby? Was he supposed to just... stand there and let himself be kissed without defending?
Something wasn't adding up, "They were straight up going to break your wand? Not even bothering to see 'why' Underage Magic was done? Straight up just, 'Oh, we are sorry this is an inconvenience to you, but because of your Underage Magical use, your wand is forfeit," he said in his best mocking voice. At the very least it got Harry to laugh. But Lucifer's face turned serious again, "A disciplinary hearing on August 12th... well, Dumbledore won't let you lose your wand or let you be kept from attending Hogwarts. Even if I don't like the Headmaster, he does have a lot of pull..."
As far as Lucifer knew, Dementors were strictly confined to the island of Azkaban. The primary role of the Hit Wizards stationed there wasn't to prevent prisoner escapes but to monitor Dementors, ensuring they couldn't slip away unnoticed.
If they had appeared in 'Little Whinging', it couldn't have happened without the Ministry of Magic's approval. Of course, Voldemort couldn't be ruled out, but if he had taken control of Azkaban, he wouldn't waste time releasing just one or two Dementors to target Harry.
No, it was far more likely the Ministry was involv----
'My main concern is that Dementor... they still answer to Ministry until they hear Voldemort has returned.... there might not be any counter besides my Patronus Charm... I would've erased them from existence if not for the issue of the timeline. The one that attacked Harry... it was sent there... it had to be... but by who?'
Lucifer wasn't able to wrap his head around anything concrete, or even anything that made sense to his own logical mind. "So Arthur Weasley explicitly told you to ignore what the Ministry's first letter said would happen? He told you not to let your wand be snapped under any circumstances, but also absolutely not to leave this hellhole of a house?"
"Yeah... I'm completely infuriated right now," Harry muttered, his fingers gripping the edge of bed below. "Oh yeah, and Sirius also sent a frantic letter right after, telling me to stay put and not leave the house again for any reason." He was physically shaking from how intensely frustrated he was by the conflicting orders.
Lucifer looked at him closely, seeing that his friend was not only shaking physically, but was completely exhausted mentally and emotionally too. Having to suddenly face a Dementor in a Muggle alley was bad enough. But after what had happened in that graveyard just over a month ago, Harry had probably relived that horror all over again during the attack, alongside hearing his mother's final screams echoing in his mind.
This boy always wore his raw emotions directly on his sleeve for the world to see. Lucifer, even though he got angry often, and it showed instantly through his destructive actions, actually possessed a remarkable amount of inner constraint when it came to exposing his true, deepest 'feelings' to others.
The sheer number of times he had held himself back from outright killing an irritating person in front of his peers or teachers at Hogwarts had surprised even him quite a lot last year. Even though he had wanted nothing more than to confess his exact feelings to Hermione, he had kept those dangerous desires tightly repressed to protect her.
Maybe he was slightly biased, but he felt like he was able to master his internal emotions surprisingly well, despite all the 'fiery' anger that constantly radiated from his frame.
He looked back at the miserable bedroom and then directly at Harry. "Let's go somewhere."
Harry's face lit up instantly at the suggestion, a sudden spark of hope breaking through his anger, but he was still noticeably hesitant. "Are you absolutely sure, Lucifer? I mean—what if the Ministry tracks me?"
"Of course I'm sure," Lucifer said, a dark smirk playing on his lips. "We both know for a fact that Sirius would have leaped out the window anyway in his younger days. I'm completely certain that if he wasn't currently wanted by the Ministry for escaping Azkaban, he would have broken every rule to come see you himself in his human form.... I say fuck all of them and let's go enjoy the day. You'll be with me, Potter. Absolutely no one is going to mess with you while I'm around."
Lucifer spoke with an ironclad certainty, and as the words settled, Harry looked like his birthday had come a few days early, his anxiety instantly evaporating.

Lucifer walked down the stairs with Harry, Uncle Vernon still yelling and turning a dangerous shade of purple despite having absolutely no sound coming from his open mouth. He stepped toward the heavy front door, pausing briefly as he caught Petunia's wide, terrified eyes.
"Harry will be back later today," he told her flatly.
"Are you not gonna unsilence him?!" Petunia asked in a high, panicky voice, gesturing frantically toward her thrashing husband.
"Nope. Not until I return with Harry," Lucifer said smoothly.
With a sharp click of the latch, they left the house and began walking down the pavement. The summer sun was beating down on the quiet suburban street, and it was a good while of walking before anything else was said between them.
"So, your birthday is three days out," Lucifer noted, breaking the silence.
"It is..." Harry said after a moment, kicking a loose pebble.
"I'll be honest, I don't quite know what to get you," he said, glancing over at him with an amused smirk.
"You don't have to get me anything, Lucifer. I don't get things for you..." Harry reminded him, a small, grateful smile cracking through his brooding expression.
"Very true. In that case, I'll buy you a new Quill Set," Lucifer said, his smirk widening. "Hermione would normally love getting that, but that's what you will do too."
"To be honest, I could probably use one... the one I got for Christmas last year has just about run its course. Well, the quill feather has, at least," Harry said, letting out a genuine laugh as they navigated the street corner.
Lucifer took him straight to an energetic entertainment area nearby, determined to let Harry actually enjoy his day. The boy had experienced the hardest time lately and desperately needed the unyielding support of his friends. Hermione would have definitely been right there alongside them as well, had she not agreed with Lucifer to go ahead to 'Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place' to scout the situation.
Harry fully understood that, and he didn't resent Hermione for it at all, but Ron's distant, silent letters made it sound like the red-head had some serious explaining to do.
