Chapter 16 - Just Wait and See

The next day, Ye Chui pushed a tricycle back from the vegetable market with a load of lamb. When he reached the entrance of the residential complex, he saw a car parked downstairs in the distance.

When he got closer, the door opened, and Fang Jun came out. He was clearly sent by Tian Xiaodu to call Ye Chui. He was smiling from ear to ear, whether it was genuine or not, but he was definitely putting on a good show.

As soon as Ye Chui stopped the tricycle, Fang Jun immediately came over to help Ye Chui carry the things. Ye Chui didn't refuse, so he just handed over the fifty pounds of lamb to Fang Jun. Fang Jun's eyebrows twitched, but he didn't say anything. He gritted his teeth and helped Ye Chui carry the things to his residence.

"Mr. Ye, I was wrong about what happened the other day. I've only met Cao Kang once, and he asked me to help him set up a lamb skewer stall. I didn't think much of it at the time, but I wouldn't have helped him if I had known it was going to be against you...I would never have helped him if I had known it was going to be against you." Fang Jun explained to Ye Chui with a humble expression after they finished all of this.

Ye Chui was amused. Who was he trying to fool with that?

However, he didn't point it out and instead said with a hint of teasing, "So, your master told you to apologize to me?"

Fang Jun also smiled and said, "He said that if I didn't bring you to Wan Lai Fu today, I wouldn't be worthy of being his disciple anymore." Fang Jun's face also showed a hint of urgency. "Mr. Ye, I hope you won't make things difficult for me."

"Don't worry, I'll never go back on my word." Ye Chui smiled and spoke. Of course, he wouldn't go back on his word. He was still hoping to make a lot of money from this.

After a simple cleaning up of his home, Ye Chui left with Fang Jun and took a car to Wan Lai Fu.

Along the way, Fang Jun kept saying good things. He probably thought that Ye Chui was just a 17 or 18-year-old boy and that his words would be enough to erase the previous bad feelings. However, he didn't know that if Ye Chui really didn't like someone, a few words wouldn't be enough to change his mind.

When the car was about to arrive at Wan Lai Fu, Ye Chui suddenly remembered something and asked Fang Jun curiously, "You should know Lin Wei, right?"

"Lin Wei?" Fang Jun focused on driving and nodded. "I've heard Cao Kang mention her. What's up, Mr. Ye?"

"Tell me about her background." Ye Chui said. To be honest, he only knew that she was a little glutton, came from a wealthy family and that her family must be pretty impressive. As for the rest, he knew nothing.

Fang Jun seemed to have heard the love in Ye Chui's words, which gave him an instinctive reaction of disdain. A night market lamb skewer seller actually had his eyes on Lin Wei, a wealthy beauty? Even if he knew a few ancient recipes, did he really think he was so great? A girl like Lin Wei was only worthy of being pursued by a big shot like Cao Kang.

And even that was just pursuing. Cao Kang would have to spend a lot of effort to get her. Ye Chui? Just forget about it.

Fang Jun sneaked a glance at Ye Chui, his eyes filled with a hint of amusement.

Even someone as outstanding as himself didn't have the courage to pursue such a beauty, and Ye Chui was really daring to think about it...However, although he thought this in his heart, Fang Jun was good at being human, and he wouldn't show it on the surface. He smiled lightly and then told Ye Chui what he knew about Lin Wei:

Lin Wei's father, Lin Zhengdao, was a business tycoon. The Lin Group was famous throughout China, and Lin Zhengdao was a big shot in Beijing. However, a short while ago, due to some incident, he moved his family to Xizhou City and bought a house here. It seemed that they were going to live here for a short period of time.

Lin Wei was Lin Zhengdao's only daughter, and he doted on her like a treasure. Lin Wei herself was also beautiful, and she was said to be a very famous beauty in Beijing. After coming to Xizhou, she had no idea how many suitors she had.

Ye Chui's mouth curled into a faint smile, naturally sensing the disdain in Fang Jun's words. However, he was too lazy to explain himself; he would just wait and see.

During the conversation, they had already arrived at the front of Wan Lai Fu Grand Restaurant. It was just a little after ten in the morning, and there were not many customers.

The restaurant was not busy inside, and Fang Jun led Ye Chui directly through the main entrance, heading straight to the kitchen. Along the way, Fang Jun secretly observed Ye Chui's expression. Wan Lai Fu was one of the top restaurants in Xizhou City. Ye Chui must be nervous, right?

However, to Fang Jun's disappointment, Ye Chui appeared unusually calm throughout the journey. Fang Jun even noticed a touch of...disdain on Ye Chui's face.

Don't even talk about Wan Lai Fu; Ye Chui had probably seen countless grander restaurants. Would he be nervous here?

What a joke!

They arrived at the kitchen, where dozens of chefs in fresh white chef uniforms were busy with various tasks like cutting vegetables, preparing ingredients, and cooking. Tian Xiaodu, wearing a chef hat over a foot tall, was walking around with a serious expression, overseeing the kitchen operations.

However, as soon as this chubby man saw Ye Chui, a smile immediately appeared on his fat face. He walked up to Ye Chui: "Little brother, you're here. What do you think of the kitchen at Wan Lai Fu?"

After glancing around, Ye Chui calmly nodded. "Hmm, not bad."

A simple 'not bad' from Ye Chui's mouth would have excited the entire restaurant in the previous life. But now, when those chefs heard Ye Chui giving such a casual evaluation, they felt dissatisfied one by one. What was this kid's background? What was he pretending to be?

"Get back to work!" Tian Xiaodu's face turned serious as he sternly shouted, and the whole kitchen immediately became busy again.

Tian Xiaodu continued to smile at Ye Chui. "Little brother, don't mind them. They're just a bunch of inexperienced guys!"

"Hehe, it's fine. I don't mind," Ye Chui said indifferently. His demeanour and presence gave off an air of confidence. If he didn't have the skills to back it up, it would indeed be acting.

Now, in this environment, the chefs felt even more dissatisfied. They couldn't understand why their head chef was praising this kid so much.

At this moment, someone walked into the kitchen. It was a short and chubby young man wearing glasses and a neatly tailored suit. As he entered, Fang Jun, who had sharp eyes, immediately called out, "Manager Yang."

"Little brother, this is our restaurant's manager, Yang Yong." Tian Xiaodu quickly introduced Ye Chui to Yang Yong and vice versa. He then explained to Yang Yong, "Manager, this is the young man I told you about, Ye Chui."

"Mr. Ye Chui, I heard you are good at cooking chicken dishes?" Yang Yong looked Ye Chui up and down and casually inquired with a hint of disdain in his words.

In this line of work, the depth of skill could be easily judged from one's age. Tian Xiaodu became a five-star chef at the age of thirty, which was already quite impressive. But Ye Chui, who was only seventeen or eighteen, what good dishes could he possibly make?

Drop some stones on this pitiful fellow, anyone?
