I stared at the blue soil, imagining what it would be like to finally be free of our debts.
No more hiding from the people my father owed. No more worrying about what he might do next. And perhaps, just perhaps, my mother and I could finally have a peaceful life.
"What are you thinking about?" Bale asked.
I looked up at him.
"Nothing."
He raised a brow, clearly unconvinced, but thankfully he didn't press me.
Instead, he looked down at the flowerpot again. "You said you found this in the mines?"
I nodded. "Yes. Somewhere near where Aiden took me."
"Do you remember exactly where?"
"Not really. I wasn't exactly paying attention to the ground. I had other things to worry about."
Bale gave a small nod, his gaze fixed on the soil.
"I'd like to see the place for myself."
I immediately shook my head.
"No."
He looked at me. "No?"
"It won't be wise." I said reasonably.
"Don't worry I won't put you in any trouble. We would go safely and-
"We?!" I cut in alarm.
