Chapter 123 - Chapter 120: The Broken Seal

On the other side…

Hajime narrowed his eyes, sensing the change. But with the city collapsing around them, hesitation was a luxury they couldn't afford. He and Oscar reached out, clasping Myu's glowing hands.

The moment they do, a vision flashes through both of their minds, revealing a prosperous, futuristic, magical kingdom from the past. This kingdom became so advanced that it rose as the world's dominant power. Yet, despite reaching such prosperity, the king longed for more power and authority. He sought to control the monsters, specifically the three great monsters: the Kraken, Leviathan, and the Devourer.

To achieve this, he ordered his synergists and magicians to find a solution, permitting inhumane experiments. They devised a way to control monsters, creating and using them as foot soldiers. Soon, unrest spread through the city as blatant kidnappings became common, all justified by the pursuit of progress and absolute power. Facilities were constructed solely to mass-produce monsters, sacrificing the people of the kingdom in the process.

Then one day, the king suddenly disappeared, marking the beginning of the end for one of the most prosperous civilisations. The monsters they had created went out of control and started devouring their creators. In the end, the remaining magicians and synergists devised a seal and placed it on the tallest tower in the kingdom to confine the city of monsters, preventing the creatures from spreading to the rest of the world.

During this time, we created a spirit to symbolise the seal—a whale. This spirit was formed and pledged to protect it forever.

"I see. Quite a predictable story, isn't it? A king blinded by power and authority—ultimately, it costs him everything." Hajime's voice is neutral as he scans through it.

"Yes, quite the pitiful story," Oscar nodded.

As the vision progressed, they noticed that the seal had deteriorated over time, and the once-contained monster wreaked havoc in the ruined kingdom, weakening it to the point of irreparable damage. As the vision slowly faded, they found themselves back, holding Myu's hands.

"So, you want us to fix it? No, you want us to recreate the seal," Hajime asked the whale spirit inside Myu.

"To do that, you need a Master Synergist, those who are at the pinnacle of their craft," Oscar pointed out.

"Yes, I seek a creator, those who are on par with a master. That's why I brought you here from your time," the whale spoke through Myu.

Hajime's brow furrowed, "I see, so that's how it is. No wonder Rihito said things are complicated."

Oscar also nodded in understanding, "So, you all are from the future. Well, I'd like to ask more questions, but I think we should focus on the job." Oscar's gaze shifted toward Meiru.

"Meiru, do you think your magic will work on the seal?"

Meiru shook her head. "Sorry to disappoint you. Just by looking at this place, I can tell that too much time has passed; it would be impossible."

"So, we have no choice but to analyse and recreate." Hajime looked at Oscar.

"Seems so." Oscar met his eyes.

"Quite the situation we are in. Two groups of people from different times standing side by side," Hajime said, amused.

"Yes, truly a miraculous event," Oscar agreed.

Hajime grinned fearlessly, "Are you ready?"

"Of course." Oscar adjusted his glasses.

Both of their eyes landed on Myu. "So, where is the seal?"

The soft, translucent glow enveloping her body was slowly fading. Myu opened her eyes, regaining her bearings. "We have to go there," she pointed at the tallest tower in the center of the castle.

"Naize," Oscar called out.

"On it!" he focused. The space around everyone flickered, and in the next moment, Naize used Spatial magic to teleport everyone to the top of the tower effortlessly.

The teleportation was smooth and fast, surprising Yue. "He did that without opening a gate," Yue, Tio and Shizuku gazed at Naize in awe.

"That's it!" Myu exclaimed, pointing at the large purple crystal at the center of a crystalline magic circle.

Hajime and Oscar went on to check the extent of the deterioration on the crystal.

"Hey guys, is it me or after that horde of monsters we dealt with, I don't see any monsters here?" Miledi frowned, seeing the eerie silence.

"Something is not right here. Kaori put on a barrier. Shea, keep an eye on the north side. Shizuku, the west is yours. Remia, Myu and Levy protect Kaori and make sure the barrier stays up. Tio and Tohru, with me, stay vigilant." Yue ordered, sensing the unnatural silence to prepare for whatever was waiting for them.

"Naize, Meiru, cover the other sides," Miledi ordered, taking the last position. Her eyes met Yue's, and they exchanged a knowing nod.

Kaori quickly established a sanctuary as Hajime and Oscar worked, while the others formed a protective perimeter.

…

With a single glance at the crystal, then at Myu, seeing she was normal. Tohru dismissed the orders and walked to the edge of the tower. Although she heard Yue, she chose to ignore it for the moment.

She sniffed the air and glanced below, saying, "I can smell him; Master is down there." Her words caught everyone's attention.

"Rihito is there? Should we…" Shea didn't even get to finish her sentence.

Before anyone could react, the tower shook violently.

Booom!

Rumble!

Rumble!

With a sudden impact, a tremor ran through the tower from the base to the top, followed by cracks, as the crystal that maintained the seal broke, splitting in two from the middle.

Crack!

Hajime and Oscar gasped in surprise. Both hurriedly used their magic, trying to repair the damage.

In response to the crystal split in two, Myu heard the whale grunting in her head.

"What happened, Mr Whale?"

[The seal is broken; someone has broken it. The mad King is out and free. Child, tell everyone to get out of there right now.] The whale panicked, and a warning came.

Myu's expression turned worried.

"What is it, Myu? Did you hear something?" Remia asked, noticing Myu's expression.

Levy nuzzled close and rubbed against her, trying to calm her.

"Mister whale is saying the seal is broken, and the mad king is out." Myu relayed the words.

Yue, Miledi and others gathered around her, hearing her words.

"Someone? But according to the whale, it had only summoned the Liberators and us. Then…" Tio's voice trailed off, realisation dawning.

"It's Rihito," Shizuku muttered, "What is that idiot doing?"

"You mean the one who used that large-scale telepathy?" Miledi began, but her words were drowned out.

"CeEEerrRraaaaAAaRrRrr!!!"

An unnatural shriek erupted from the tower's base, reverberating across the kingdom. The sound drew every monster from the far reaches, pulling them like a hive stirred into frenzy.

"What an unpleasant noise." Tohru's expression turned repulsed.

In response to the shriek, the monsters surged from the tower and across the kingdom like a disturbed hive.

"Incoming!" Shea shouted as swarms surged upward.

Yue, Tio, and Miledi took to the skies, spells blazing, while Shizuku, Shea and others braced for battle.

Inside the tower.

Rihito walked in and stood before a quivering puddle of rustic black goo.

"So, you are alive," he said coldly.

"You will pay for what you did to this king," the puddle of goo began to coalesce, struggling to take on a form.

"Cry me a river," Rihito sneered, chainsaw blade humming.

"WHY YOU…!" Its voice was filled with anger.

The puddle coalesced and turned into a large, grotesque, deformed humanoid head. It then opened its deformed mouth.

Immediately, Rihito prepared to strike, but right below him, the remaining goo swelled into a dark cocoon, snapping shut to trap him.

Well, too bad because it was just too slow to catch him. He jumped out of the way.

"CeEEerrRraaaaAAaRrRrr!!!" the deformed head creature shrieked.

In response to that, the cocoon opened like a lotus, and from it a swarm of monsters poured out, immediately overflowing the area.

Rihito frowned and readied the chainsaw blade, and shredded the monsters coming at him. But the number of monsters was too much, as many of them poured out of the tower.

"HaHahA… gO, mY mInIoNs, oveRflOw THe wORLD!" the distorted voice bellowed.

Rihito grimaced. "Fighting it here is really troublesome." He looked at the tower, which was barely standing. He could see cracks running through the walls. He should take this to an open space.

In the next moment, he slammed down on top of the cocoon, crushing it.

Due to the sheer force of the attack, all the monsters trying to defend within the cocoon popped like water balloons.

But it was no use; right then, the splattered liquid gathered together, forming two more cocoons.

"YOu foOL, iT's fUtILe, hAHahAh…" the creature laughed, tentacles lashing out.

"As long as I am alive. I can create as many monsters as I need," it laughed, as multiple tentacles lunged towards him.

Rihito zipped around and carved through the tentacles and monsters alike, none touching him. He swung the chainsaw sword and then shredded the deformed head into scattered stains on the wall.

"You've revealed your weakness, just as I suspected. You are nothing more than a second-rate villain."

In mere seconds, the pool of grotesque goo reformed into a scowl and then into a mock laugh.

"HAHahAhA… FoOl, dIdn'T I saY iT'S fUtILe. It'S iMPoSSiblE tO kILl MEe…"

Rihito watches it reform itself.

"YoU caN'T kILl ME, i haVE tHe pOwER oF thE tHReE GreAT mONSterS iN mEe…" It babbles in its unpleasant tone about how he gained the power of the three great monsters by somehow absorbing a part of their body.

[Oh, that's interesting. Doesn't that make it like Hajime and me? Then how did it become this deformed?] Many questions started to appear as he dodged its tentacles, trying to get it in the optimum position. At the same time, its body was slowly taking a humanoid shape.

"GiVE Up. HaND OvER tHaT BodY."

It tries to surround Rihito with its tentacles to create a cage. "I gOT yOu nOw!"

"No, I've got you," Rihito said, moving faster than the creature could react. He struck at the moment of its arrogance, when it believed it had him cornered.

Finally seeing it in the perfect position near the gate, with an opening in its back, Rihito unleashed a powerful blast through the creature's tentacles. He then appeared behind it and delivered a kick with a , aiming towards the entrance.

Booom!!

The entrance exploded outward. The grotesque-looking humanoid flew out, crashing like a rag doll through the streets of the kingdom.

"What is that?" everyone wondered as they dealt with the swarming monsters.

From the broken gate, a bluish-white beam erupted, splitting into spider-web strands of light that pierced the monsters, clearing the sky in an instant.

Following that, Rihito appeared in the sky, his trench coat rushing through the air.
