Chapter 108 - Chapter 107: Love is to Fight

Floating on top of the blue sea, right above the Sunken Ruins of Melusine, I wondered, "How did a simple date end up like this?"

"Master, you'd better be ready; I won't be holding back," Tohru said, rearing to fight.

"Tohru, isn't there another way to do this?" I said, hoping she would agree. Even though I inwardly knew what her response would be, I still asked.

"No, there isn't; this is the only way," Tohru said, her face a mask of complete seriousness.

"..."

"Figures…" I sighed.

Well, I did expect her sooner or later to challenge me.

But of all time, now …?

Seeing Shea and Shizu grow closer to him seemed to prompt Tohru to act sooner.

Since it's Tohru, her thoughts are difficult to predict.

He even remembers discussing this with Hajime.

Right about now, you might be wondering, or maybe already have an idea, what's going on.

But, for those who don't understand, let me explain:

A few hours ago…

After our night together, Shea and I returned the next morning.

I then spent some time playing with Myu, had breakfast, and took a brief rest. Finally, it was time for Tohru and me to start our date.

Like the previous two times, we started our date by heading towards the dock.

[So… where should I take her?] I thought and wondered.

Rihito was uncertain about where to take her. Unlike Shea and Shizuku, with whom he had spent some time, he didn't know the dragoness's likes and dislikes. Now that he thought about it, he realised he hadn't spent any time alone with her, which led to his current predicament.

Still, this is a date; he had to come up with something.

Just when Rihito was wondering about it, Tohru called out.

"Master"

"Hmm, what is it?" Rihito responded.

"Do you mind if I choose the place for our date?"

"Sure, but where are we going?" I asked, raising my brow in curiosity about our destination.

"Hmm… you will see…" she said, and then walked ahead.

We then went towards the dock.

I was about to summon Vela when Tohru stopped me. She used concealment magic on herself and began transforming into her large, nearly 20-meter-long draconic form, floating above the dock.

Seeing her taking precautions, Rihito nodded in approval.

"It's good to see you have taken my word to heart," I said, smiling.

Tohru, floating, looked at me. "Master, get on."

I leapt, and with a single leap, I stood at the top of her head right beside her horns.

Tohru floated gracefully toward a certain direction and, with a boom, soared away at supersonic speed, the aftershock of the sudden acceleration rocking the dock and startling all the pedestrians nearby.

"..."

[Guess I spoke too soon.]

Rihito even saw the aftershock throw some of the nearby pedestrians right into the water.

Rihito sighed, seeing that, "Well, at least she is learning."

[Tohru, great job with your stealthy hiding and transforming. However, taking off at supersonic speed so close to the dock makes stealth pointless. Next time, try to create some distance before blasting off. Okay?] I advised.

[Huh? Ah, oh… ok.] She nodded.

With that, both of us fell into silence while flying.

[Why do I feel like this won't be the kind of date, the date I am expecting? And aren't we heading towards the direction of the Sunken Ruins of Melusine? What is she hoping to find there? Did I miss something about that place?] Numerous thoughts crossed Rihito's mind. At this point, he can only hope it concludes on a good note.

..

.

Four hours later…

Rihito, standing atop Tohru's head, noticed they had nearly reached the place.

"That was fast. We are two hours faster than the last time."

Although it was obvious if he thought about it, travelling by air is much faster than travelling by land or water.

Rihito, if he moved by himself, could travel even faster. But he is not travelling alone, so he has to think of other ways to travel faster.

"Hmm… I should talk with Hajime and create a blueprint of a plane," he muttered.

Rihito considered the idea further and wondered why he should limit himself to just a simple plane. Why not create a spacecraft that can also explore space? The thought excited him, making his hands itch to start building. However, he knew that now wasn't the right time; for now, he pushed those thoughts aside for the moment.

Reaching her destination, Tohru stopped.

"We are here," Tohru said.

"So, what now?" I got down from her head using , folding my arms.

Transforming back to her human form, Tohru equipped her gauntlets.

"Now we fight." Tohru blurted out those words.

Rihito, not surprised at all, understands she has more to say and stays silent.

"We have to decide between you and me. Who would be leading our relationship? For that, we have to fight."

Hearing that, Rihito inwardly groaned. [I so called it.]

With a hand on my forehead, I asked, "Explain?"

(A/N: I made this up based on a theory I heard about why Tohru was so obsessed with feeding Kobayashi her meat.)

Tohru, noticing the confusion on Rihito's face, started explaining, "Ah, well, in dragon culture, this is seen as a kind of ritual. It's like a proposal; the one who wins the fight takes the lead in the relationship. After the winner is decided, the winner consumes a part of the loser's flesh, symbolising their victory. You are my chosen mate, so we also have to participate in this."

Hearing her explanation, Rihito understood the gist of it, but didn't he eat that meat from her? Then doesn't this mean this fight is meaningless?

And that's what happened…

Back to the present…

"Oii, Tohru, doesn't …"

Before Rihito could speak to Tohru, she took a martial stance, and in the next moment, she vanished. A fist, moving faster than sound, hurtled directly toward my head from the left.

She is going for a quick knockout, smart. But …]

I used my left knuckle to block her fist.

Boom!

But the power of her fist was too powerful, pushing me a few meters back.

"Ugh… my hands hurt." It's definitely not a good idea to take her attacks head-on. Just partially taking that attack made Rihito's hand go numb. If he hadn't used at the last moment to lessen the impact, he is almost sure his hand would have broken.

Rihito's regeneration kicked in, and with Regeneration Magic, he was as good as new.

Even after so much training, he was still unable to match her in strength.

Well, she is centuries ahead of me; of course, it won't be that easy even with the cheats.

With a grin, my body was enveloped in crimson mana from the , augmenting my status, but that was not the end. He then used to further boost his strength.

"Well, let's see how much my control has improved."

Rihito took a basic martial stance.

Tohru too took her stance, and then both of them moved.

Matching her move, both of our fists clashed.

Booom!!

This time, unlike the previous time, Rihito wasn't pushed back.

Both of us took a step back, and again we clashed fist-to-fist multiple times.

Booom!

Booom!

Booom!

Each of their clashes sends shockwaves through the surrounding area. It was fortunate they were fighting here; otherwise, if it were near Erisen, it would have been destroyed by the aftershock of their battle.

After multiple head-on strikes, it was clear for the moment that it was a stalemate.

"It seems we are equal in strength; isn't this enough? Why don't we end the fight here?" Rihito once again tries to convince her.

But again, Tohru denied.

"Noo! I won't. This is the only part of the ritual that remains. After this, we can finally be together," Tohru said with a lot of emotion.

"..."

Realising the expression on her face, he understood that he could no longer procrastinate on this matter.

With another inward sigh, Rihito took the initiative and thrust his palm into her stomach using , pushing her back.

"It's not the date I was expecting, but if this is what you want, I will oblige."

Following that attack, multiple elemental orbs of water and fire surrounded Tohru.

With a single gesture from Rihito, the water and fire orbs collide.

Booom!!

Booom!!

Booom!!

Booom!!

Multiple steam explosions surrounded her.

Rihito watched, waiting for her next move, confident that an attack like that could never defeat her.

As expected, from within the steam, a blast of dragon breath shot directly at him.

"Black Hole."

With those words, a pitch-black orb of Gravity magic blocked the breath and began absorbing it inside.

Right at that moment, Rihito sensed danger from behind.

He ducked as a fist covered in fire passed through the place where his head was.

"Wow… you nearly got me." I stepped back, creating some distance as Tohru walked through the spatial gate.

"Using and to sneak attack me was a pretty good idea, but too bad it wasn't fast enough."

Tohru looked at Rihito's smirk and opened her fist; something was burning there.

"Master, you let your guard down," Tohru pointed at his burnt collar.

"I see." Rihito checked from his right shoulder; a part of his coat was burned and torn.

Rihito ran his hand through the burned part. "It seems I got cocky, didn't I?"

"Hahaha…" Rihito burst into laughter, thinking he had moved past such emotions. Guess he was wrong.

"Master, are you alright?" Tohru, seeing him acting strange, asked.

"Hah… I am fine. In fact, thanks to you, I found something new about myself." Rihito smiled at her.

"Well, let's get this fight over and eat something."
