For a moment, none of the three Level 5 evolvers moved. Tension accumulated as they sized up each other, mentally mapping the next few seconds while looking for the flaw to pry open. But it was a two against one, and Hannah could only place a greater part of her focus on one target. But the taller alien was not the one who lived first.
The shorter, thin alien just twenty centimeters short of being two meters tall, was the first to move. His wide open arms suddenly became the source of more energy that went beyond simply maintaining the city-sized drop of water. It created currents that made the previous calm boil, and slowly, like the gears of a clock, started turning.
What should have been a simple act turned into something slow that required full effort of a 'city-destroyer' powerhouse. And with his movement, the lake started turning too, subtly, at first, then as if greased, the pace started to pick up, the inertia working to keep what had started going.
