She had survived the apocalypse long enough to understand one simple rule: when her gut screamed that something was wrong, something was wrong.
And right now, her senses couldn't even tell her what it was.
That was the part that frightened her.
If she could identify the threat, she could prepare for it. If she could see it, she could fight it. But something capable of hiding even from her heightened senses was an entirely different matter.
Her expression became grim.
'This could be deadly.' Kisha quietly reached out and grabbed Duke's cloak, giving it a small tug.
Duke immediately understood.
She took one cautious step backward.
He followed.
But he never turned his back on the darkness.
His spear remained raised, his gaze sweeping across the shadows as he retreated with her. He trusted Kisha's instincts enough not to question the decision. If she wanted to pull back, then there was a damn good reason.
