She expected him to laugh.
The moment Arc made her announcement, she waited for Owyn to do what her siblings had always done.
But he didn't laugh.
The small smile he'd held when trying to talk to her faded, and she felt, and not for the first time, that he was actually looking at her. That he was taking her seriously.
Which made her wonder why.
The only thing Arc had really shown him about herself was that she was a good marksman and had a decent grasp of her own society - a society she still felt alienated from, because of her family - but to her, that alone wasn't a lot to go on. If he'd just laughed at her or asserted some reason she'd lose, she'd have plenty of reason to go all-out, but instead, he just stared, before nodding.
