Chapter 67 - End of Year 1

Here it is. End of year 1! 144,008 words total. Feels great man.

(Word Count: 1,484)

'The Elixir of Life!' Harry thought greedily. He read the reward description.

[The Elixir of Life: Drinking even a drop can slow aging. For every milliliter, it adds 10 years of life and you stay younger for longer. The added vitality and change to the body makes it easier to channel magic, so normal wizards would see a jump in Power. However, you are in a unique situation with your Wizarding System. You will only see a small increase. Normally, a single "batch" Flamel made of this elixir contains only a few milliliters at a time. This vial contains 100 milliliters.]

Still, he didn't accept the reward just yet. He wasn't alone. He glanced at Dumbledore and mentally dismissed the system. He picked up the now transparent stone and, curiously, smashed it onto the ground. Unlike before, where it seemed to be indestructible, it easily broke apart into tiny shards like glass.

He cast Reparo, reforming the powerless stone, and handed it to Dumbledore, who stood there stunned.

"Um… here. I think I accidentally switched the places of the stone and blood," Harry lied, pretending to feel a bit guilty. "Good thing it was going to be destroyed anyway, right?"

Dumbledore shook himself out of it and laughed. "Hahaha! My boy, we really did underestimate you, didn't we! Yes, we were going to destroy the stone anyway, so you saved us some time."

"It's almost time to get to the train, so I should get ready." Not staying any longer, Harry ran off back to his dorm room.

When he sat down on his bed, he received several notifications of various quest completions.

[Magic Quest: Philosopher's Stone

You've put everything you've had into studying the Philosopher's Stone, and even managed to learn something from it, however small it was.

Reward: Unlocked the Alchemy Class, and gained +1 Level in Alchemy.]

[Magic Quest: Magical Tutor (Repeatable)

You've formed a study group with at least 2 students from each house, and have helped them all advance their studies.

Reward: +1 Level]

[Magic Quest: Room of Requirement (Repeatable)

You've made use the Room of Requirement to get the most out of your school year!

Reward: +1 skill point]

Then there was another notice, but it wasn't a quest. It was a personal message from Fate herself.

[Harry,

Good job completing your first year at Hogwarts! I've decided to give you a little gift. +1 level in ALL applicable classes you've taken this school year: +1 Charms, +1 Transfiguration, +1 Potions, +1 Dueling, +1 Herbology, +1 Divination, +1 Astronomy.

This reward will continue for the rest of the school years as well, so be sure to take all the classes you can to become a well-rounded wizard!

Just don't be boring.

Love, Fate!]

Harry was stunned. Outside of the Elixir, this was the biggest reward he had gotten from a quest. A full 7 Class points for doing basically nothing. He pulled up his status screen.

Although he gained levels in the various classes, he didn't really gain any knowledge he hadn't already learned. However, seeing Divination so close to the 5th level perk, he didn't hesitate to place the class point into it. Immediately, he felt a fundamental shift within himself and it suddenly felt like he was truly seeing things as they were for the first time. He had awoken his third eye.

[Third Eye Open: Your third eye is open. You can see things others cannot. You can more easily see through hidden illusions.

Synergy with the perk: Seer! The perk has been changed.

Seer: You can use your third eye to actively divine the past, present, and future. No illusion can trick you.]

Harry couldn't help it. He laughed happily. From the phrasing of the new Seer perk, he wouldn't be randomly getting visions now. He could trigger them actively now, anytime he wanted. Not only that, but it seemed that he could use his third eye as a sort of focus to cast divination spells he had been learning.

He crossed his legs and closed his eyes to try out a scrying spell. Learning his lesson against scrying Grimmauld Place, he instead scried Hermione's parents again. Normally the spell required a crystal ball or a bowl of water as a focus. Something for the image to appear in. Now, the image appeared directly in his mind, as if he was seeing them himself.

He could see both Dan and Emma. It seemed like they had taken the day off from their dentistry to prepare for Hermione's return. Emma was dusting everything and making sure the entire house was spruced up. Dan was out in the back yard preparing a smoker for a proper barbeque dinner.

Harry opened his eyes, and it was like seeing two places at once. Yet it didn't feel disorienting. If it worked like this, it also meant he could see the future without losing sense of himself. He grinned. Could he use this in dueling? His mind wandered to Observation Haki. Being able to see even a few seconds into the future would be helpful. Sure, he had Legilimency, so he could read their intentions anyway, so he didn't strictly need it, but it was the principle of the matter. It was cool. Another reason was that wizards powerful in the mind arts, as rare as they were, could trick or stop his mental probes. But nothing can be done to stop a seer from seeing the future.

He cut off his scrying spell and stood up, stretching in satisfaction. Today had been great so far!

Then Ron came into the room and Harry couldn't help but flinching back in disgust. Buzzing around Ron's head was a bunch of gnat-looking creatures. They seemed to enjoy flying into his ears. 'What are those things!' Harry thought.

"What are you looking at?" Ron said, annoyed. He had just walked in and Harry was looking at him like that?

"Ron, don't you see those things flying around your head? What are those? What did you do?" Harry asked,

"What are you talking about?" Ron looked around, completely oblivious to the cloud of creatures around him.

Then Harry noticed several of the same looking creatures flying from Ron towards him. He jumped up, waving a hand to clear them out, but they seemed to just ignore it and continued buzzing toward him. There were only one or two of them, but Harry didn't want any bugs crawling into his ears, thank you very much!

Harry ran away in disgust.

"Merlin, Harry! Have you gone mad?" Ron shouted after him.

After his escape, Harry realized what these things could be. Didn't Luna talk about them? Wrackspurts. Harry cursed. Ignorance was bliss after all. Now that he had his third eye, he could see these invisible creatures! He'd have to ask the Lovegoods about these things. And to get a cork necklace. The OG Luna had said it helped.

Harry sighed, cringing away from the Wrackspurts.

"Harry! There you are!" The squeaky voice of Professor Flitwick came from behind. Harry turned to see Flitwick holding a packet. "Just the student I was looking for! Here. I've arranged everything you need for the dueling bracket this summer. Everything you need to know is here in the packet, just give it a read."

"Thank you, Professor!" Harry said excitedly, taking the packet. All thoughts of Wrackspurts now gone.

"Oh, it was my pleasure!" Flitwick said, just as excitedly. "Now, the tournament goes through all of August, so best keep up the practice beforehand. I'm thinking we should meet through July to prepare. Now that I don't have to teach or manage other clubs, I can devote more time to your instruction. Well, not that you need it, eh, Harry?"

Harry smiled. "I may be gifted, but I lack your experience, Professor. I'd be glad to have your help. I live at Grimmauld Place. Just come on over anytime and my house elf Tripsy will welcome you."

Flitwick chuckled, "Oh, don't worry. I won't come over unannounced. We can arrange the details later. I'll send a letter. For now, you need to get yourself ready for the train! It'll be leaving soon!"

They parted ways. Everything was already in his trunk, so Harry made his way to the Hogwarts Express. It was time to go home.
