Chapter 62 - History Books

"Whooosh…"

Yuki held Iky up like a toy plane and swooshed it through the air, which it seemed to enjoy.

"I'm so bored, Iky… Are you a boy, or a girl? Cuz if you're a boy… Then I don't want to have anything to do with you. But if you're a girl, then I don't want you to have anything to do with Master. Though it looks like both won't go my way… I'm gonna assume you're genderless. So you are an "it". Did you know most angels are genderless? Only the awesome ones, like myself, get one~ That's right, I'm an angel, bet you didn't know that."

It just tilted its head, as if waiting to he swooshed around again.

"You're right… What's the point of this conversation? I just wanna be with Master…"

She threw him away, though he landed on all fours against the wall and just crawled away without struggle.

"Am I crazy for talking to an animal? I don't think so. There's a good chance you actually understand me, after all. Talking to things that definitely can't understand you is crazy. I'm jot crazy. I'm bored. You get it, huh, Iky?"

Silence.

"Iky…?"

Silence diffrent from the silence of the past hour of talking to Iky without response.

"Where are you now…"

She looked around the room but there was no trace of it.

"Alright, I'm sorry for throwing you into a wall. Okay, maybe not sorry, but I promise not to do it again for a while. Now come back, please?"

Silence so silent that she really did feel crazy now.

"Okay where the fuck are you?! Come here right this instant!"

She had enough and started a wide range detection spell, which despite being quite exhausting, was the fasted method.

"Urgh… I hope you were run over by a horse pulling a solid block of steel behind it…"

But she found nothing.

"Oh oh… Master is gonna be so mad I lost it… Or maybe he will say "Oh, whatever my beloved darling soon to be wife, Yuki! Who cared about that stupid worthless thing anyway? It would have only gotten in the way of our wedding, which should happen right away!"… Probably not… But maybe he will say that! Is this how gambling feels like? I feel like the odds are against me… Sidetracked! Where would I go, if I were an annoying repulsive little creature… Towards perfectionn! Obviously, it's on its way to Master! Where did he say he was again…? Library! Case solved~"

So she went to the library as well, in hopes of finding Yamato, and Iky too maybe, though she rooted for him to have just died on the way. Arriving at the library, there was no one.

"…Of course… Urgh, now I actually have to think about this… Alright… To enter the library, one needs permission and supervision of a teacher. Easiest teacher to do that with would be professor Reed since he's a pushover teacher that doesn't care about anything really. But he's also impulsive and selfish, so once they got here, probably not finding what they were looking for, both my glorious Yamato and professor Reed went somewhere else… Professor Reed mentioned a book collection a while back, and how it needs funding, so it's expensive or extensive or both. Since he likes to brag, he'd show off to someone he is obviously inferior to, meaning my glorious superior Master of course! Thus, he invites Yamato… To his office! Case solved~"

She moved on towards professor Reed's office, where she finally was reunited with Yamato! And Iky too, yay.

"Yuki, what are you doing here?"

"Uh… I missed you!"

"That… Makes sense for you. Why did you bring Iky?"

"Because you told me to keep an eye on him, so when I decided to go see you for the sole reason of seeing you, I took him with me!"

"Very responsible. That was a good idea."

"Mhm! Thank you!"

"I'm kidding… I know you lost him when he ran off."

"What?! No I did not!"

"He's been here for 20 minutes… It's not like he got here a minute before you because you let it reach me before you."

"I deny all accusations regarding that!"

"Uh huh… Here, read this."

Yamato threw Jack's diary to her, while he was reading another book with Iky curled up next to him.

"What is that?"

"It's a book about numerous magical creatures. The last pages are about Iky's species. Memorize it."

"Alright…"

"What did you do for him to run off anyway?"

"Nothing!"

"I find that hard to believe."

"We had fun talk and stuff! Then I accidentally threw it in the wall but it wasn't a big deal and nothing got hurt or damaged!"

"Oh, well alright then, I guess that's fine..."

"Right? He totally overreacted. It was probably in no correlation whatsoever. Probably missed you as much as I did! Well, not that much, but also missed you a lot I'm sure."

"That is most likely the case, but still… Don't throw animals into walls, or at all."

"Alright…"

She said, visibly disappointed. After skipping through the book even faster than Yamato did, she threw it on the ground and sat behind Yamato to look over his shoulder. And even then, she clinged to his back and wrapped around him as much as she could.

"Watcha reading, Master?"

"Something but useful to us but I'm just making sure there really is nothing interesting. What did you think of Jack?"

"The guy from the book? Wannabe tough guy. I couldn't care less about his life or death."

"Yeah, I figured. Anyway, since you are here, help me find anything about the mirror or the prophecy."

"Will I get a reward for helping~?"

"If you find something, maybe."

"Ah, no take backs!"

"I said maybe… I don't need to take back anything…"

She already flew off to the higher shelf's, which could not be reached without a ladder.

"Am I looking for anything specific regarding them, or just anything linked?"

"Just anything linked will be fine. We might not find anything at all though. That we found something about Iky was incredibly lucky, so don't get your hopes up."

"Found something!"

"Oh, really now?"

"Yes! Look, highest item class, The 13 Unikums."

She flew back down before starting to read out loud.

"Ahem… "An Unikum is the strongest state an item can reach, however it is not a state that can be reached under any circumstances by a regular item, but instead something the item is created with, or more accurately, born with. All Unikums existed since the beginning of time, are indestructible, thus unaffected by magical or physical attacks and are the best at what they do. There are 13 Unikums in total, from which only few have been discovered. However there are without a doubt 13, no more no less. They seem to be random regular objects, and could be anything. The first of the Unikums to be discovered was the Unikum Mirror, which in itself appears to be a regular full length mirror at first glance, but upon physical contact with mana creates a copy of the person or object it is touched with. The copy will have opposite traits to its original, but remains with a strong resemblance to it. All copies are hostile to the original, in case of items, they will be cursed to try and kill the user of the original item." Very interesting… Or not. Whatever, next one! "The Unikum Ring, an indestructible ring made out of silver, with a crystal clover as its main feature. Once worn, it is difficult, nigh impossible, to take it off or remove it. The ring tries to stay on the it's current in possession of at all costs, shrinking tightly around the finger of them so it cannot be removed. Attempts to cut the finger off resulted in the tool breaking or malfunctioning, only when the person dies of old age, does the ring come off. Though people wearing the ring seem to bot age as quickly, if at all. The person wearing it becomes incomprehensibly lucky, so much so that their every wish comes true due to a series of coincidences without them having to move a muscle. However said luck focuses around the user, and may affect everyone around them negatively in return. The coincidence themselves appear to be completely random and cannot be influenced by the user." Ooh, I like that one. I bet it's shiny~ Now, last one! "The only other Unikum sufficiently studied for an entry is the Unikum Book, or also known as Book of Abilities. The book itself can be identified by its with pure gold laced frame, and a single color changing gem in the center cover. The owner gets a detailed description of the special abilities the target possesses, as long as the owner has the book in their physical possession. The ability descriptions cannot be hidden or altered by any external force, regardless of circumstances. Unlike the Unikum mirror, magic will not be reflected but merely absorbed and nullified." There's nothing about its exact size or where one might find it or could look for it. Thanks for nothing, I guess, dear author…"

"Well, still, I found it quite informative… It reads like a lab report, or maybe notes of a scientist. Probably the latter since there is no author named. It was probably for personal use only. Can you tell how old it is?"

"Well, it obviously plays after Jack, since magic is already normalized for the author here, and since the ruins with the mirror, which I would quite safely assume to actually be the Unikum Mirror, were quite abandoned for at least a couple of centuries… Maybe between the last 500 to 1000 years or so?"

"Yeah, that sounds about right… Though the condition of the book surprises me, I'm sure there is magic for that."

"There are lots of useful magics that can help woth chores, games or survive time. There are more than just attack and defense magic, y'know? I'm happy to teach you each and everyone of them!"

"…Maybe, if we ever find ourselves with enough free time for that."
