Chapter 5948 - Chapter 4968: Batman Isn't Here (55)

As it turns out, the group of mutants, compared to the students of Gotham, aren't much different. When both groups are simultaneously drowning in the sea of learning, one sinks too deep, the other spreads too wide. The young people of Gotham prefer to be silent for a while and then explode with a big fire, while the mutants keep having small fires continuously.

With Brainiac, the situation in Gotham is much better. The mutants have grown somewhat after experiencing the construction in the Andromeda Galaxy. However, if it were really that easy to scoop, arrogance and Charles wouldn't be so evasive about teaching.

Charles showed a headache expression: "How did Lorna get to the East District? Wasn't she fighting monsters in the South District, I just took my eyes off her…"

"Don't forget, he is with the Arkham Knight," Arrogance said, "the bad luck of mutants combined with Robin's is almost catching up with Batman."

Charles sighed deeply: "The situation over there is somewhat complicated, a brain wave avatar might not be able to handle it, I'll go get the brain wave amplifier and then go there myself."

"Your true self is coming?" Arrogance asked. He knows that Charles always comes here with a brain wave avatar, but it's understandable, his brain waves can't be transmitted across the cosmos, the true self must be here in DC, although it might not have entered the game.

Charles nodded and said: "I've asked Brainiac, he allows the use of virtual accounts, and they can be replaced at any time."

Arrogance understood, now Charles's situation is like playing a game, but with a guest account, he can register a fixed account and verify identity at any time. But there's still one issue, Arrogance asked: "Can the brain wave amplifier be brought inside?"

Once the game starts, outside equipment can't be brought in, otherwise, Arrogance could totally use his stock of real-world fear gas, rather than having to dig in the game.

Charles gently tapped his brow with his finger: "Before coming here, I made full preparations. Erik had Dr. Pym use Pym particles to shrink the brain wave amplification device to the smallest size and implanted a microchip into my frontal lobe, so it can be carried around."

Arrogance didn't know what to say, logically speaking DC here should be more dangerous, but the people over at Marvel always use this very common tone to say some spine-chilling things. For a moment, Arrogance doesn't know whether to ask how Charles convinced Erik, or how Erik convinced Pym, anyway this whole operation sounds like the prelude to a big event, with scenes set up for subsequent plots.

Charles quickly switched the account. His true self and brain wave avatar do look a bit different, the brain wave avatar possibly doesn't want to take up too much bandwidth and didn't render too many details, while the real self looks much more real.

Charles wore a khaki casual suit and a pair of black-framed glasses, the suit leaned more towards an academic style, combined with the glasses, he looked like a harmless bookworm.

Brainiac also marveled, allowing an electronic life to see illusions, you can't say this is purely a psychic ability. Brainiac has always been curious about Magneto, unfortunately, Magneto rarely comes here, so Brainiac doesn't have many opportunities to interact with him.

However, the thought that Charles switched to the main account just to fish for students brings an inevitable twinge of sourness. He only fished for Bruce for a few years, while Charles has been continuously fishing for mutants for decades, finishing one batch and then another, Charles going mad is indeed expected.

"The agent is rerouting to pick us up." Charles pushed open the door and walked out. As he stepped out, Deathstroke happened to get off the car and froze upon seeing Charles.

He felt there was something different about Charles but couldn't quite put his finger on it. If he had to say, after the resolution increased, those blue eyes became more impactful.

"You…" Deathstroke hesitated.

Charles smiled at him and said: "My students have some issues, I must go and take a look, sorry to trouble you."

Rarely did Deathstroke encounter someone so polite. Not to mention Shiller, nor Batman, most of the people in the Justice League choose to turn a blind eye to this mercenary who lives by killing, they mostly only allow him to hang around the Justice League base because they can't say no to Batman.

In fact, Deathstroke intentionally molded his appearance into a machine of violence, facing someone like this, very few can be calm, most are either wary or apprehensive. Deathstroke was used to it, but he could tell that Charles was genuinely sincere, which made it even more eerie.

Think about it, facing a 200-pound super-tight spandex muscle-bound guy armed to the teeth, how many can nonchalantly exchange pleasantries like greeting an old friend? Unless this person truly believes, even Deathstroke poses no threat to him.

Deathstroke suddenly felt a bit apprehensive. Earlier Charles was indeed a bit strange, but the oppressive feeling wasn't this strong. Now he didn't know what happened, even Deathstroke felt a bit scared of getting involved.

The agent standing in the passenger seat also stared at Charles. Deathstroke wasn't at all proficient in the spirit class, so he couldn't feel it. But the agent, after all, had ties with the High Tower, his spirit was more sensitive, able to feel the very strong brain wave force field around Charles, like a fusion furnace, or it could be called a Mind Sun.

The agent even suspected that Brainiac's game system weakened this feeling, in reality, it must be even more intense and bright. This clearly wasn't the usual Professor X, he probably obtained some upgrades again.

It seems, Professor X came well-prepared this time, probably not just to play a game. Still, what he intends to do is unknown. But seeing the faint worry between his brows now, he should be off to fish for students.

The few got into the car and started heading towards the East District. Deathstroke asked while driving: "Why was Batman trapped? And why was Polaris trapped?"

That's indeed a good question, because Batman doesn't seem like someone reckless enough to charge toward a source of contamination without preparation. And Polaris, being powerful, can switch to a magnetic field at any time, so theoretically shouldn't be trapped.

Ironically, the two least likely people to get trapped in the game are both trapped in the East District. What's really down there?

Charles shook his head; he clearly didn't know either. Something in that place interferes with brain waves. He suspects Brainiac might have gotten something real from the Outer God, not just game simulation. To avoid issues, Charles didn't risk contact.

"I never thought we'd have to rescue Batman." Deathstroke sighed again, "Hopefully he'll appreciate the favor and give me some business later."

"Don't forget what our mission is," the agent reminded him. "The East District is probably the toughest of all. We should figure out if Brainiac really has connections to the Outer God, and to what extent."

Deathstroke glanced at Charles. In Charles's presence, he couldn't bear to say they didn't actually want to rescue Batman and Polaris, but to investigate the surface of the East District for Batman's mission.

Nonetheless, Charles was very understanding and said, "We can't rashly go underground for the rescue. It would be great if we had more clues."

"Let's go investigate," Deathstroke said.

"I'll provide you with psychic protection," Charles smiled again, "You just need to physically give those monsters a bit of a tough time."

Deathstroke had no doubts that Charles would keep his word. Though he didn't know what happened, Charles's abilities in this form were clearly much stronger than before. The outcome of his struggle with the Outer Gods is yet to be seen. In a sense, why wouldn't Professor X be considered a form of Outer God?

Arriving at the East District under Charles's guidance, Deathstroke took him to the temporary base set up by the others. They settled into a small hut in the original Living Hell Area and discussed how to rescue Batman.

Deathstroke and the agent didn't waste time and began searching for clues near Living Hell. They soon received an investigation task. Deathstroke glanced at it, impatiently saying, "Another one of these investigation tasks, you handle it; I'm going for a walk."

The agent was also annoyed by him. Deathstroke was very impatient with investigations, especially those that gave no hints, only a rough location, requiring you to find clues yourself. These tasks have a low probability of triggering battles; there are no monsters to fight, just endless patrol and inspection.

This was a major reason Deathstroke partnered with the agent. It's not about the lousy gun but because the agent is great at solving and investigating. So even though they constantly hinder each other in battle, Deathstroke was more than willing to have the agent as a teammate, handling all the cerebral tasks while he just focused on combat.

The agent wasn't fond of investigations either; he was just a dedicated agent who did what his job required. Occasionally slacking off, but most of the time he managed to complete tasks on time. After all, there's no break room in this game.

The agent walked into the low building. He hadn't actually seen much of the Living Hell scenes, having only glimpsed it in passing through Arrogant's memories, with a more vivid recollection of the Gotham building renovation plan resulting in skyscrapers springing up like mushrooms after the rain. This rundown appearance was rather rare.

As the agent walked in and scanned the room, he knew immediately that it was just an ordinary house, with nothing inside worth calling furniture. The agent pressed the intercom button: "Brainiac, scan it."

"Is there a possibility that you don't need to use the intercom?" Brainiac's voice appeared in the agent's ear, "I wrote the game's system; I can talk to your brain anytime."

"Can't you have a bit of professionalism," the agent frowned, "Suddenly popping into my brain disturbs my thinking. Humans have ears for a reason."

"Alright then." Brainiac's voice came out of the intercom, "But I don't know what you want me to scan."

"Aren't you a super AI? Can you only make cold jokes?"

"I can indeed provide some help as Brainiac, but you need to first make specific requests, like whether you want me to intelligently allocate production lines or mark something for you..."

Brainiac modified some plotlines for Arrogant, incorporating himself into the game, thus notifying all players that he could offer help as an intelligent butler. However, outsiders weren't quite accustomed to him yet; they hadn't thought of him.

"Scan for any abnormal items here," the agent said, "That can't be too difficult, can it?"

"There's a feather by the window," Brainiac said, "But to be honest, I didn't scan it; I just did a bit of spoiler..."

"I'm not Arrogant; I don't care about that." The agent walked straight up and picked up the feather. After a look, he narrowed his eyes because he found it might be an owl feather.
