Chapter 5941 - Chapter 4961: No Batman Here (48)

This is a Luther form born from an experimental accident. What happened back then could basically be called a chain car crash—after all the twists and turns, it directly produced what might be the physically toughest Luther form: Joker Luther with Freezing Power.

But Lex has never liked Cyborg-type things, so this form didn't last very long before he reverted himself. Although his body still carries Freezing Power now, and he even looks more like the classic Mr. Freeze than Victor · Fries does these days, he usually doesn't use it, and you can't see any difference from the outside. This form has already been forgotten in the long river of history.

Who knows where Brainiac dug it up from, but he seems to think this form is pretty interesting, so he designed it as a mini-boss. Maybe for that very reason, getting into the Physics Department teaching building isn't hard at all.

The agent never planned to go head‑to‑head with him. Once he confirmed Joker Luther really was here, he just dragged him out and ran. Then he discovered that area bosses really can be pulled out, and this Freeze Clown Luther has a strong desire to attack, but no Magic or Mystical powers. He really is the perfect Pokémon.

The Human race's favorite pastime in every game is bug fighting. Any game where you can freely pull Monsters, there's not a single player who doesn't want to drag two Monsters together for a showdown at Forbidden City Peak. If you can tie a Monster up and throw it into another Monster's turf, then even if you can beat it face‑to‑face, there will absolutely be plenty of people choosing this flashier method. Beast fighting is human nature.

After pulling Freeze Clown Luther out, the agent didn't bother with him anymore. He sped up, let the aggro drop, went back to the truck, and said, "It works. Let's get one over there to test it first."

They drove back to the North District and called in the others, especially Polaris, because the key to this plan was—someone had to drag the Monster into the truck.

The truck only has a single entrance. Once you pull the Monster inside, you have to face it directly, and you still need to be able to slip past it and exit through that same door. That requires the puller to be able to switch forms, and Polaris just happens to be able to.

This time they didn't bring many people. Besides the agent and Deathstroke, it was one Red Robin, one Polaris—four of them rushed toward the West District.

After the truck arrived, the agent was a bit surprised to find that Freeze Clown Luther hadn't gone back to the physics lab. He'd thought they would have to pull him again, but in reality this guy was just wandering around the spot where his aggro had dropped earlier, constantly roaming there.

This gave the agent a bold idea, but he didn't say it yet. Polaris got out of the truck, took one look at him, and fired a Hand Cannon shot to draw Freeze Clown Luther over.

Seeing him coming, Polaris dashed into the truck's cargo compartment. Freeze Clown Luther was actually pretty crafty—he didn't rush in directly, instead firing a few shots from his freeze gun toward it.

Of course there's no way that could freeze Polaris. In fact, this truck seems immune to status effects; not even the Tires got frozen. Polaris just stood there, constantly poking the Monster with ranged attacks. After a while, Freeze Clown Luther finally lost patience, charged straight into the compartment, and tried to grab Polaris.

Polaris instantly turned into a magnetic field, not only leaving the truck compartment immediately, but closing the door on his way out, then directly standing on top of the truck, wrapping the whole truck in Magnetic power and yelling, "Got him!"

Freeze Clown Luther kept firing inside the compartment, but it wasn't doing anything. The freeze gun's penetration is poor; it can indeed freeze the compartment walls, but the effect can't spread out. And the Joker has no answers here either—he has no Wisdom, can't even use Persuasion.

The truck headed straight for the North District. But just as they were about to reach the estate, the agent said, "Don't go in yet. Drop this Monster outside the gate, then we'll go catch a few more."

Red Robin looked at him, a bit stunned. But then he thought of Freeze Clown Luther wandering outside that building. He said, "You're sure this guy won't go back?"

The agent nodded, and the truck stopped. Polaris wanted to ask what was going on, but the agent just shouted to him, "Open the door!"

Polaris was slightly puzzled, but didn't ask much. Once he opened the door, the frantic Monster bolted straight out, but the truck swung its tail and drove off, leaving the Monster behind in place to rage uselessly.

They drove a ways off, watched for a while, and discovered that once these mini‑bosses leave their original spawn point, they all adopt a "since I'm here, I'll stay here" attitude, never thinking about going back. The agent's plan now had a solid foundation.

Returning to Gotham University again, the agent thought it over. The names Arrogant mentioned are basically all students. Among them, only two have Superpower: one is The Flash Barry Allen, the other is Poison Ivy Pamela Isley.

The Flash definitely couldn't be captured; the agent knew that very well. Even with all the truck's mysterious traits, it absolutely couldn't hold The Flash. Plus, he suspected The Flash wouldn't be spawning at the university anyway—more likely at the place where he works later on.

In that case, Poison Ivy was a good choice. Pamela has Superpower, and her attack methods should be quite diverse. Plants might be a bit vulnerable to heavy shelling, but since things had gone this far, they might as well grab her first and talk later.

The agent and Deathstroke went to the Biology Department again. This time the exam was harder, because there were some essay questions straddling the line between science and humanities. The agent had no choice but to log off again and contact the Prime Universe's Poison Ivy. They'd dealt with each other a few times, and their relationship was decent.

Regarding the questions the agent asked her, Poison Ivy just felt baffled. Especially the environmental‑protection essay questions. The Prime Universe's Poison Ivy said, a bit suspiciously, "You're not trying to do some environmental public‑opinion survey, are you? I must remind you, I don't represent public opinion."

"No," the agent said patiently, "it's a question in the game I'm playing. Just answer honestly."

"But my views probably wouldn't be accepted by most Professors," Poison Ivy said. "They're a bit too radical—Batman thinks they're not viable in reality at all…"

"The examiner is Brainiac."

"Then that's fine." Poison Ivy immediately dashed off a long piece. She'd dealt with the Pamela from the cosmos ruled by Brainiac, so she knew exactly how seriously Brainiac took seed agriculture and plant cultivation. All those parts of management that were beyond what manpower could handle, Brainiac could completely cover.

As for environmental protection, that went without saying. Brainiac was the most radical eco-fighter on the planet—radical enough that he'd actually chase Shiller down over water source pollution, and he really did scare off those idiots who kept throwing junk into the lake. Even Poison Ivy had to call him big bro.

With the answers in hand, the agent went alone to take the test. Sure enough, he passed it easily, and he did find Pamela in the biology department. Pamela had been Magic-modded quite a bit—in short, she'd been turned into the classic-skin Poison Ivy.

Getting her to the North District was trickier, because she could use Magic to summon Vines that drilled up from the ground to beat people up. Driving like that was impossible, so they simply stopped driving. Everyone got out of the car, leaving only Polaris and Poison Ivy inside. Then Polaris used a magnetic slingshot to fling the car toward the North District. The landing point was insanely precise, which said a lot about her physics chops.

Now they had two Monsters, but the agent still wasn't satisfied. Poison Ivy's plant-type Magic was getting hard-countered by the bombardment—she could provide some crowd control, but the damage was lacking. They needed a dedicated striker.

The agent thought for a bit and decided he should go look for Harley Quinn. Mainly because he felt the various Robins didn't have much Aggressiveness, especially in this cosmos. Harley Quinn was at least passable.

And he'd gone to the right person. Harley was in the same Superpower state she'd had when she fought Martial Arts Master Kant: black energy pouring off her, a knife in her hand, and speed that was way beyond imagination.

Polaris repeated the magnetic slingshot trick, but this time she got a little careless. When Harley rushed over, Polaris didn't immediately turn into a magnetic field—she was a bit slow, and took a slash to the arm.

Polaris let out a muffled groan, but still jumped out and slammed the door shut. The agent waved his hand and said, "Send her straight to the estate, then send those two over as well."

The car rolled up, the door opened, and the blackened Harley burst out, hacking at anything in sight—the final boss included.

Once the other two were transported over, the righteous three-on-one was set. Freeze Clown Luthor and Poison Ivy Pamela were on control duty, while Harley handled the damage output. And all the players who had orchestrated this setup hid off to the side, watching excitedly.

The agent's decision to bring in more people turned out to be absolutely right, because this boss had multiple phases. First came artillery bombardment, then he summoned Mob members, forcing Deathstroke to step in for trash clearing. By the third phase, he even summoned his two sons, each at least mid-boss strength.

Fortunately, they also had Polaris. Polaris had been saving Strength precisely for this moment to deliver the final blow. Once she entered the field, a single Electromagnetic Storm swept across the area and every mini-boss dropped.

That long-charged ultimate cleared the field in one go. At the same time, it triggered the final form of the boss—the Uncrowned King.

Old Godfather Falcone had indeed once been Gotham's Uncrowned King. During the decades he ruled, the city operated in a strange yet highly ordered way. And now, everyone else could see what kind of existence Bruce had encountered when he stormed into the North District back then.

Falcone summoned countless phantoms—not just Mob members, but endless Gotham citizens. There were churches, docks, universities. A whole gigantic city hung upside down behind his back.

The decisive moment arrived, and no one held back anymore. The agent raised his gun, Deathstroke swung up his Great Sword, and Polaris gathered her remaining Strength. Golden and blue light flared at the same time.

BOOM——!!!!!

"North District final boss has been slain, rewards now being calculated. Main Task complete, North District threat level reduced to minimum, no more active assaults will trigger, but unfinished side quests can still be completed."

Everyone heard the System chime and looked toward the north. Polaris slowly descended, letting out a long breath. "This thing was really hard to fight, I pretty much went all out."

"No way," Deathstroke looked at her. "Your full power should be enough to destroy a planet, right?"

"I'm not that weak," Polaris said, "but of course Brainiac would never let me do that. There must be an invisible numeric System limiting my damage output."

"Whatever the case, we've got a good start." The agent holstered his gun and said, "Let's see the rewards. The final boss dropped…"

Contrary to their expectations, the final boss reward wasn't gear at all, but an illustration—a truck racing through a rainy night toward the brightly lit Falcone Manor, with flecks of firelight scattered through the dark, damp trailer.

Even the Robins who were most obsessed with in-game gear didn't complain—just sighed a little. "Maybe what we see as everyday suffering and struggle looks like a great miracle in the eyes of another kind of Wisdom life-form."

"The fact that the Human race can continue to exist at all is already a miracle," Brainiac said. "There is no rational basis for it—just a chain of miracles turning the tide. I don't think that's a coincidence, and as for why, that's what I'm exploring."

"Yeah, that's obvious." The agent put the illustration away. "This cosmos's Gotham really is a great research subject, because it can get better—it's like a miracle among miracles."
