Chapter 5236 - Chapter 4278: Evil Spirit Possession (18)

Two shots to the body and one to the head, not even a god can save him now. This is the standard silencing method for an agent. Shadow Spider-man can be considered the Batman among Spider-men, and more importantly, he has no qualms about killing. He's the type who believes, "if you want to kill me, I'll kill you first." The shot was fired decisively, without a hint of hesitation.

He put away his gun and walked over to check the corpse. The opponent was lying on the ground, holding a handmade bow, not a modern compound bow, otherwise Peter couldn't have grabbed the arrow. But even so, if that arrow had hit him, it would have crippled him if not killed. So, when faced with the corpse on the ground, he felt no sympathy and squatted down to search the body.

"Oh my god!" Famillo suddenly popped out of the bushes. He seemed very shocked by the current situation. He said, "You... you killed him! How could you..."

"He tried to kill me first," Peter said coldly. "If I hadn't dodged the arrow, I'd be the one lying there now. He's the murderer, and I'm just stopping him from committing a crime."

"But you shouldn't have just..."

"It's not about should or shouldn't, it's about can or can't," Peter replied calmly. "He didn't kill me, so now he's the one who's dead."

Famillo seemed shocked by his attitude. Peter only found a hunting knife on the person and nothing else. So he stood up and took a few sips of the lake water; the bottle was nearly empty. He quickly walked down to fill the bottle with water.

He's realized that this water can't enhance his strength, but it can restore his spider-sense. And spider-sense is the ability he relies on the most, it's extremely important to him. With spider-sense, it's as if he has everything. He must recover quickly.

After drinking another bottle of water, Peter felt it was enough. His spider-sense, which had been fuzzy before, was starting to become more tangible. He had gone through this when he first became Spider-man, so he adapted quickly.

He walked back to the top of the waterfall and said to Famillo, "Now you have two choices: go to the town and report to the police, then testify for me, saying it was self-defense. If you don't want the hassle, help me bury him and don't tell anyone about this."

Famillo stood there staring at him, his face unchanged, but his eyes were inexplicably gloomy. Peter didn't care at all, he dragged the body into the forest, preparing to find a good place to bury it.

Famillo still followed him, seemingly wanting to know where he would hide the body. What greeted him was the muzzle of a gun. Famillo had to take two steps back and then turned and left.

Peter knew he couldn't just leave the body there. Whether or not the other person would report to the police, it was a liability. Shadow Spider-man was always a fugitive walking the line between the government, police, and revolutionaries; he had plenty of experience. He knew well that it's better to clean up traces as best as he could rather than rely on others.

The humidity around the waterfall was too high, burning the body wouldn't work. He still needed the waterfall's water to drink, so throwing the body into it was also not an option. With no tools available, and the soil being hard to dig, burying the body wouldn't work without help. So the best option now was to find a place where no one would discover it and just throw the body there.

Peter dragged the body to the base of the waterfall, then started wandering along the mountain body. But soon, on the side of the waterfall, he found a small crack in the rock wall of the waterfall. He immediately realized there could be a cave there, and it was very hidden. Even if the locals knew about it, it was difficult to access, but he could try.

Peter was even bolder, he didn't plan to climb but intended to jump over directly. Although he didn't have superpowers now, his balance was not to be underestimated, stronger than most gymnasts and acrobats in the world. Plus, he was light and agile. After a few attempts, he indeed made the jump.

Next was how to get the body inside. It appeared to be a big project, but it was actually the simplest, because there was no need to move the body all at once.

While Peter was busying himself with the hunting knife, another figure followed the scent of blood and found this place. Seeing what Peter was doing, this person stood there in shock.

"Peter!" he shouted.

Peter turned around cautiously, and saw a familiar face. He shouted in some shock, "Bruce?"

"It's me, how did you end up here too?" Bruce walked out from behind the bushes. He glanced up above his head, and Peter caught this look, knowing he was the real deal, as only players knew about the existence of health bars. If it were an imposter, they wouldn't possibly make such a move.

"What are you doing?" Bruce asked.

"This guy tried to kill me," Peter said simply, then continued his work. When he got tired, he'd take out water to drink a few sips. Bruce saw the action and asked, "Is that mineral water from the store?"

"No, just lake water."

Bruce was momentarily stunned, then asked, "Lake water? Why are you drinking lake water?"

"I don't know why, but the lake water seems to have some magical effects. This guy didn't kill me because I caught his arrow."

Bruce immediately realized that Peter couldn't say it explicitly, but was hinting at him. He might have regained some of his Spider-sense abilities, otherwise a normal human's reaction speed wouldn't be sufficient to catch an arrow.

Can the water here restore superpowers? No way, right?

"What happened since you came in? Can you elaborate?" Bruce asked.

Peter spoke intermittently while working, not hiding anything. Bruce pressed, "You mean you felt empty and somewhat depressed when you just entered?"

"Yes. Actually, I felt this way since entering this level, not just when I came here. Otherwise, the car accident wouldn't have happened." Peter vaguely mentioned.

Bruce didn't understand at first, but he quickly had an epiphany: What is the principle behind Spider-sense?

This is actually very complex. Resembling predictive abilities, it might be caused by magic power, as he knows that Spider Man's superpower indeed comes from magic power. But if one insists on explaining biologically, it might be an over-secretion of excitatory neurotransmitters, leading to the brain's overclocking.

It's well-known that the human brain doesn't operate at full capacity most of the time. Usually it's more about "one core suffering while eight cores watching," deliberately, to achieve extremely powerful fuzzy algorithm effects.

And this extreme reaction ability and danger perception might be the result of the brain operating at full capacity and overclocking, causing brain waves to break physiological limits, evolving into another sense, transforming into a kind of ability.

To make the brain overclock, frequent stimulation is required. The principle is complex, yet the simplest method is using stimulants. Many people think stimulants are only useful in sports, but in reality, stimulants can be widely applied in various fields, including improving attention, memory ability, and learning efficiency.

The principle behind Spider-sense might be a magical reaction that stimulates Spider Man's brain incessantly with efficiency beyond any human stimulant, allowing it to achieve predictive-like effects by surpassing physiological limits of brain wave frequency.

Bruce knew the air here was problematic, the water too—anything that could enter his body was contaminated. The issue was that it might contain excitatory neurotransmitters far surpassing any stimulant in the real world, rapidly exciting people, sharpening attention, boosting learning efficiency, making the world seem controllable. Such a sensation can be compelling.

This method doesn't take effect as swiftly as traditional addiction but can cause psychological addiction, commonly referred to as "stimulant dependency." While on stimulants, one feels like a genius; when off, the contrast is stark. In psychology, this is a troublesome syndrome known among recognized scholars and athletes.

Peter's description of his status after entering this level sounded like stimulant dependency withdrawal. This Doujie System blocked his superpower, causing his excitatory neurotransmitter levels to drop sharply. Originally given 100 by Spider Totem, falling below even 10 after being blocked, he could still act normally, showing strong willpower.

However, the controller of this Psychic_Battlefield might be brainwashing new Spirit Bodies to better control them, applying various methods for stimulant highs. The air contains stimulating substances, not to mention the water, with significant amounts found in underground springs, affecting food and water sources, causing villagers to be exceptionally high-strung, displayed in bizarre ways.

Even Bruce had to balance the excitatory neurotransmitter secretion to mitigate the excitement from breathing. But for Peter, excessive excitatory neurotransmitters were just right; what was a lethal dose for normal people was close to Spider Man's norm.

So he drank water, juice, milk, and lake water continuously, successfully returning his excitement to Spider Man's normal levels, naturally regaining Spider-sense.

This method might be exclusive to him, since his daily status matches this level. For others, before even breaking physiological limits, they'd likely go insane.

This Evil spirit might have unintentionally done a good deed, not restoring super strength, yet Spider-sense might not be complete, but at least some superpower was regained, bypassing system limitations perfectly.

Indeed, the system doesn't allow superpowers, nor are there any tools enabling such in this level. But Peter's unintended step into this trap just suited his brain, leaving the system no room for reasoning.

Bruce considered whether he could use this method. But before finding a solution, he thought of Shiller. If he remembered correctly, Shiller also had some superpowers.

Is he staying here to recover his superpowers then?

Bruce had a premonition: Now, it's not about outrunning the plot's progression, but the Evil spirit racing against their restoration speed. Time was running out for the Evil spirit.
