Chapter 140 - C’tans Powers: The Maw That Hungers

The void ahead churned with motion.

Tyranid Hive Fleet Gorgon was not a fleet in the human sense — it was a living, breathing swarm, hundreds of bio-ships knotted together by instinct and hunger.

They blotted out the starlight, the shadow of their advance stretching across the Ember Vow's augur display.

Shawn stood at the forward hangar, the new C'tan-forged blade at his side, chestplate gleaming with that faint, impossible shimmer that made mortal eyes ache.

The Shards

Shard One — Blade of the Infinite Cut

Origin: Extracted from a fragment of the Nightbringer's prison.

Function: Its edge is not bound to space or time; it cuts along the concept of separation. Armor, bone, psychic barriers — even reality itself — part under its swing.

Limitations: Requires precise will to avoid overreach; an unfocused strike risks destabilizing the environment.

Shard Two — Phaseheart Chestplate

Origin: Derived from a bound fragment of the Deceiver, master of illusions and shifting form.

Function: Exists slightly out of phase with the material plane; disperses kinetic and energy strikes into another dimensional layer before releasing them harmlessly.

Bonus Effect: Allows micro-phase shifts, letting the wearer avoid contact-based attacks entirely.

Shard Three — Spear of Starlit Dominion

Origin: Shard from the Void Dragon, long imprisoned beneath Mars.

Function: Acts as a psychic lightning rod; draws in warp energy, psychic force, or other esoteric attacks and focuses them into a single counter-thrust that annihilates the target's cohesion at a molecular level.

Bearer: Constantin Valdor.

Valdor's voice came over vox.

"Multiple bio-titans in the front line. They're forming a vanguard wall."

Shawn gave a short nod.

"Then I'll cut the path."

The Drop

The Custodes spearhead descended first, Haki shimmering around them like molten gold, bolters roaring.

Grey Knights followed in wedge formation, psychic wards weaving to hold the swarm's synapse creatures at bay.

Guilliman took the left flank, his blows breaking monstrous chitin with sheer force.

Shawn landed at the swarm's heart.

The first Hierophant Titan lunged — a cathedral-sized amalgamation of muscle, bone, and cannon-like spore launchers.

Shawn's Observation Haki mapped its neural impulses in less than a heartbeat.

The Blade of the Infinite Cut moved once.

The Titan didn't so much fall as it came apart, every segment of its body sliding away in perfect, clean lines.

The cut was so precise that the ichor had no time to spill before gravity claimed the pieces.

The Phaseheart's Test

A wave of bio-plasma from a dozen Tyrannofexes converged on him, boiling the air.

The chestplate shimmered — not with light, but with absence.

The blasts passed through Shawn entirely, dispersing into a layer of space just a fraction out of sync with reality.

He stepped forward through the inferno without a mark.

Valdor's Strike

Far to Shawn's right, a massive Zoanthrope brood attempted to lock down the Custodes lines with psychic shockwaves.

Valdor raised the Spear of Starlit Dominion.

The warp-lightning slammed into him, coiling around the spear's mirrored shaft.

With a twist, Valdor hurled it back — the psychic force multiplied tenfold, ripping through the brood and leaving nothing but smoking husks.

The Hive Mind Shifts

The Tyranid swarm recoiled.

This was not prey.

This was predator.

But the Hive Mind learned quickly.

From the rear of the swarm, something vast began to emerge — a creature the size of a small city, plated in psychic-absorbent bone, tentacles thrashing.

Shawn gripped his blade tighter.

"This one," he said over vox, "is mine."
